Javelina @ the Northside BV-BBG Showcase (more by Jason Walker)
Javelina

Alright! I get it. Doomriders rules. Revocation is up there. There's a new Converge and Baroness on the way. But even with all of those great releases, it suprises me that Javelina isn't near some of the top of those lists. The band's filthy debut was a monster and their new one, Beasts Among Sheep, only adds to their considerable reputation. If you are a fan of the last LP, this one is a must have. Dig on "Stepchild" above and preorder the limited edition LP version of Javelina's Beasts Among Sheep via Brutal Panda Records and the CD version via Translation Loss.

Speaking of that Doomriders album, Darkness Come Alive is out NOW via Deathwish Records. Though the party vibe that permeated through Black Thunder is mostly gone, it has been replaced by a propulsive punk rock fury and, at times, a Misfits-era Danzig croon (see "Come Alive")! There are quite a few killer moments on this long-player, but we present to you the most "fuck you" of them all, the galloping "Lions" downloadable above!

In our last round up, we shined a light on into the deepest fathoms of Australia and the truly frightening Portal. The band's claustrophobic and positively frightening new death metal LP, Swarth, relies as much on freak-out atmosphere as it does killer discordant riffery. Swarth is due out on 10/20 via Profound Lore and we have a second taste in the form of "Omenknow" above.
Misery Index have completed four new songs and are looking to enter the studio in early 2010 to record their follow up to Traitors! Stoked.

Iron Age @ Cake Shop (more by Jason Walker)
Iron Age

I still remember that kick ass Cake Shop show with Iron Age, Mind Eraser, and Sex Vid, and walking out of that show wanting more. Thankfully, I can add to those great memories with a PAIR of Iron Age shows in the coming weeks! First up, the rowdy Texans will team up with the great Mother of Mercy (profiled here) for a show at Cake Shop (10/16). The next day (10/17), look for the band to pull a double header with a day show at Generation Records and a night show at The Charleston with Brain Killer, Naam & Descender. Speaking of Mind Eraser, the band will team up with the kick ass Iron Lung for a string of east coast dates which will include Cake Shop on 11/8! Full Iron Age and Iron Lung dates are below.

Black Skies will release the limited edition vinyl from their 2008 EP Hexagon on I'm Better Than Everyone Else Records. The Chapel Hill doom trio is currently on the hunt for drummer #5, but not before blessing us with some seriously killer riffage in the form of "Smoke & Mirrors" above. Preorder Hexagon here.

Power Pellut is also releasing their debut LP via I'm Better than Everyone Else Records. Preorder that here and dig on "Black Betty" from that LP above!

Church of Misery will release a live record culled from their recent set at Roadburn 2009! More details are to come, but look for Burning World to do the honors in November/December of this year. In the meantime, dig on this killer live video from Roadburn 2009!

That video, news on Kowloon Walled City, Boris, Asphyx, Struck By Lightning, Ringworm, Repulsion and more!

Church of Misery @ Roadburn Festival 2009

Enter Struck By Lightning. The Ohio band, which features Gregory Lahm of ex-Mouth Of The Architect fame, is alot less Neurosis post-metal chug than you might think. In fact, there are quite a few moments on their new LP Serpents that feel like High On Fire crossed DNA with a hardcore band. Not too shabby. Check out a track from Serpents above. Meanwhile, Lahm's old band MOTA is prepping a new EP for release early next year, as well as gearing up for a European tour. Details are to come.

Kowloon Walled City's new LP, Gambling on the Richter Scale, is out NOW and the band is offering it up for FREE. Download that above and make sure and support the band by purchasing the record in it's physical form via The Perpetual Motion Machine.

After the success of the Clone project, Clone II is now detailed and will feture contributions from Thou, Hey Colossus, Moloch, and more covering songs by His Hero Is Gone, Rorschach, Goatlord, Unbroken and others. Available in a limited pressing of 400, more details are available here,.

Asphyx and Hooded Menace are teaming up to release a split 7" on Doomentia Records. Details are to come, but you already know it's a must have.

Ringworm is releasing The Promise on limited LP via A389 Records. Preorder a copy here and check out a video of the band @ The Great American Hardcore Fest

Stoner trio Karma To Burn have announced that they are on board for Roadburn 2010 and have signed with Napalm Records, who will release their NEW LP! More details are to come, but in the meantime, a recording of their recent set at Lit Lounge has surfaced and is available for download above. One of those tracks is the NEW song, "41".

Raise The Red Lantern are prepping their debut LP for At A Loss (preorder it here) and in the mean time have scheduled a string of dates on the east coast on the southeast including with God's Revolver at Lit Lounge on 10/19.

Yoga have released their lo-fi dark ambient LP Megafauna on Holy Mountian. The LP is their first since their killer split with Ghast from last year and the band has been kind enough to drop off a taste in the form of "Seventh Wind" available above. Stream more from the record and pick up Megafauna here.

Repulsion - Live at DNA Lounge

Chunklet has been throwing up some KILLER posts as of late, including a preview of the forthcoming Floor box set complete with two FULL shows, an entire Minor Threat show at Irving Plaza from 1982, a sunn O))) audio interview, and last but DEFINITELY not least, a recording of the Sleep set from ATP! Download a copy of that Sleep set above and support Chunklet! It rules.

Abscess, featuring Chris Reifert of Autopsy, will begin work on their new LP, Dawn of Inhumanity, in the coming weeks. Look for it on Tyrant Syndicate.

Death Breath have completed work on their new LP!

Karp Documentary Trailer: Kill All Redneck Pricks: KARP LIVES! 1990-1998

Fight Amp, who will release their new album Manners & Praise via Translation Loss on 10/27, and Voyager are scheduled to team up with Moth Eater for a FREE show at Fontana's on 10/1.

Integrity @ The Great American Hardcore Fest

Valient Thorr and Red Fang will team up for a few dates including Santos Party House on 11/17, after the Thorriors finish a slew of dates with Early Man. Early Man will then hit the road with Priestess, who are scheduled to headline the Tee Pee Showcase during CMJ at Union Pool on 10/23. The Tee Pee showcase will also feature appearances from Nebula, Naam, Quest For Fire, Kreisor, Hopewell, Imaad Wasif with Two Part Beast, and Weird Owl. Full Valient Thorr and Early Man tour schedules is below.

Now that Hull has returned from their Beard Destroyer tour, the band has lined up another show at Cake Shop on 10/29 with Wizardry.

Kayo Dot have announced the completion of Coyote, their new album due in Feb 2010 on the esteemed Hydra Head Records. Recorded by Randall Dunn, the band will road test some of the material while touring Europe in the coming weeks culminating in a show at Drom in NYC on 10/9 with Extra Life. Full tour dates are below.

3 Inches Of Blood is shooting a video for "Battles and Brotherhood" from their new LP. Check out photos from the shoot here. In other, more tragic 3IOB news, ex-bassist Brian Redman passed away this week. RIP.

Metal is some of the most kick-ass, satisfying music ever...when you are 14 years old. Rock on...

to my ears there's more than a slight High on Fire sound to the new Doomriders record. which is a good thing.

8:32 go back to your TV on the Radio and Yeah Yeah Yeahs and shut the fuck up

Hey 10:10,

Don't be too hard on 8:32, I'm sure his balls are just being squeezed too much by his ladypants.

"I still remember that kick ass Cake Shop show with Iron Age, Mind Eraser, and Sex Vid, and walking out of that show wanting more."

Then he should have went directly to Death By Audio afterwards for a better show w/Sex Vid, Mind Eraser, Failures, and DRUNKDRIVER. Brooklyn>Manhattan regardless of the bill though.

8:32-fucking douche. ha!

12:59 -> Point taken, and quite possibly true.

I dont quite agree with the Brooklyn show better than Manhattan show argument though. Although I think that is a veiled DIY vs not argument.

Oh 2:04 PM, sorry to exclude you at age 14, you thirteen year olds and corresponding vocabulary are welcome too

Goes Cube isn't playing that 10/4 show at the Charleston, fyi. we were never on that bill, not sure where the confusion came from.

I'm from Chicago and I love reading the BV metal section. It's like NYC and Chicago always has the best metal shows in the country. Cheers guys!

I think the best part of the first poster is that he/she thinks they got a good point across, when all they really did was make themselves look like the trend-following fool that they are. Thanks.
