Wavves with a new drummer is like a turd with corn in it. Still a turd.

This is HISTORY people.

I dunno why Zach Hill is playing with this loser, probably Hella isn't selling enough records.
Posted by Anonymous | September 25, 2009 11:44 AM
tickets at door?
what time do you suggest

Meltdown aside, I think Wavves show some promise. Overhyped? Sure. Maybe if they get out of the lo-fi funk too that'll help. Their first album was okay but not reinventing music. My lady friend brought over some tunes last night and some were Wavves' new tracks. We went on to mutually masturbate in front of each other and luckily I laid down a towel for each of us to use as our cum rags, because she's a heavy squirter and pretty much soaked through the sheets with her She-Wolf sauce. Aside from having to change my sheets around 2am, Wavves is too young, too inexperienced and in development though and its really something I'll have to get back to you about in a few years.

why
Posted by Anonymous | September 25, 2009 12:05 PM
pretty sure Zach Hill still plays a single pedal, and Horenstein is a douche.
Posted by Anonymous | September 25, 2009 12:07 PM
market hotel has never 'sold out', nor will it for wavves. when they expect a large crowd they will sell tickets down the street at a bar. ToddP's site would inform you of that.
- i was confused as well when i heard zach hill is drumming for wavves. the intensity of zach hill's music doesn't match up with wavves. oh well.
Posted by Anonymous | September 25, 2009 12:07 PM
ya hill def doesn't play double pedal. wtf? has he ever listened to hill's music?
Posted by Anonymous | September 25, 2009 12:09 PM
11:58, I agree 100%.
There's promise, but the attention this guy is getting is totally disproportionate to his ability as a songwriter and musician. When it comes to lo-fi music, I need a songwriter like Phil Elverum to captivate me. The Glow, Pt. 2 in particular is a stunning album, esp. the first three songs. I'm usually stiff as redwood by the time the title track starts up, and there's cum squirting all over my face and neck and cat when the horns on "The Moon" start blaring. Truly epic stuff, shows that the lo-fi aesthetic need not apply to the quality of the songwriting itself, as in Wavves.

zach hill, drumming angel and savior of mediocre musicians.
Posted by Anonymous | September 25, 2009 12:12 PM
Zach Hill was killer with Boredoms at ATP. Makes me think there's something I'm missing about Wavves. But probably not.
Posted by Anonymous | September 25, 2009 12:14 PM
12:10pm I give you credit for trying, but you failed to use the word cum rag in a sentence and you didn't use enough adjectives to describe the consistency of your ejaculate.
Final grade: B

@11:58am: "She-Wolf sauce" FTW
Posted by Anonymous | September 25, 2009 12:20 PM
Hill added so much last night; totally overshadowed Nathan Williams - but in a good way
Posted by Anonymous | September 25, 2009 12:24 PM
the new guy from Hella thinks its his show, way too over powering and sloppy as hell..the wrist kid couldnt even keep up
he ruins the simplicity of it, no?
Posted by Anonymous | September 25, 2009 12:34 PM
Forget it...went to see a meltdown last night and ended up seeing Zach Hill fucking kill it.
Nathan Williams...replaceable
Posted by anom | September 25, 2009 12:35 PM
Horenstein is a douche, but that doesn't mean Zach Hill should be allowed to hijack Williams's sound. Hill is the greatest drummer I've ever seen in my life (maybe the dude from Dismemberment Plan was as good), and if he wasn't double pedaling, that's even more amazing. No doubt, the guy is a God on the kit.
That said, it fucked up the show last night and I couldn't even hear Nate. I took a chick to that show last year and got laid STRAIGHT UP because Nate connected with my girl. She'd never really heard him, and all of a sudden she's "SOOOOO BORRRRED" like Nate and everyone else in the full-on-danced-out piece.
Not last night. Last night I found myself staring at Zach Hill. And tho it was impressive and amazing and all that, that's not what I went for. I went to stare at Nate Williams, the rockstar. I went to hear WAVVES, not DRUMMS. I fear this union may be stifling Nathan's genius a little. And it certainly has a withholding affect on the ticket paying audience.
I am concerned, legit. I think Williams is the more marketable, more important genius in this duo and needs to get in front of Hill for it to work.
I'm sure it could. Just DID NOT last night.

the usual collection of out-of-the-loop know it alls still waste their work hours on the BV comments page, I see

12:38 who are you kidding. You've never gotten laid.
Here, borrow one of my cum rags, man...
Posted by Anonymous | September 25, 2009 12:50 PM
the new drummer adds too much and takes away from the simplicity and what wavves is -- now it's just a different band with over the top drumming that doesn't make sense with the music.
no dice.

the usual cocksucking scenesters who think wavves is good music still waste their unemployed trust funder days on the BV comments page, I see

Zach Hill is overrated..saw him with Team Sleep and he ruined the whole thing.

excerpted from Zach Hill's wikipedia page:
"One of Zach Hill's most defining characteristics as a drummer is his footwork. Many drummers are surprised when they realize that he only uses one bass drum and a single bass drum pedal when he plays. Hill employs his characteristic double-stroke bass drum method throughout much of [his songs], leading many to believe he is using more than one foot to do so, when he is only using his right foot."

Zach Hill is a good drummer, but Ryan Ulsh makes more sense for Wavves, though his band Super Vacations is better.

1:31- please define 'garabe.' we're all intrigued.
Posted by Anonymous | September 25, 2009 1:49 PM
um market hotel sold out for wavves in feb. you probably hadn't heard of them yet.
Posted by Anonymous | September 25, 2009 1:52 PM
i dont know what ryan ulsh "making more sense" for wavves means. bands are allowed to let their sound evolve. i agree that wavves is great because of its simplicity, but i think zach hill adds a rhythmic complexity that's tasteful. and lets not forget that nathan williams admittedly (still) doesn't know shit about music, and is still playing bar chords in 4/4

what up internet losers?

Posted by Anonymous | September 25, 2009 2:43 PM
do you even know what meme means?
eheheh
don't copy and paste wiki for me
there's this whole new loose meaning of the world for this generation thats so ridiculous

2:59, I was just perusing the OED while reading BV and thinking the same thing.
It's not in the dictionary but when I think of you, the word 'douchebaggery' comes to mind.
Posted by Anonymous | September 25, 2009 3:08 PM
got there at 7:30, no one was there. bought a beer, took a sip of it, threw it out, left, went home and worked on a painting for 6 hours. i basically spent 20 bucks to NOT see wavves.
Posted by Anonymous | September 25, 2009 3:37 PM
why would you be so fucking stupid as to do that, 3:37?
Posted by Anonymous | September 25, 2009 3:45 PM
go to see ganglians tonight. they're worth the $10 alone
Posted by Anonymous | September 25, 2009 4:34 PM

Posted by brian | September 25, 2009 5:33 PM
saw em at fyf and wasn't stoked with hill drumming. I guess he tunes his toms like his kick to get that double bass effect... oh yeah, he uses a pork pie snare, eww
Posted by Anonymous | September 25, 2009 9:20 PM
is that how nathan looks these days?
Posted by Anonymous | September 26, 2009 10:46 AM
show was awesome, Wavves with Zach Hill sounds like a math rock-y Nirvana.
shit got pretty stupid at the bar afterwards though!
you'd think wealthy indie famous band dudes who get crazy money, girls, and respect would behave like civilized grown ups. Nope!
(and I'm not talking about Nathan Wavves here...)
Posted by Anonymous | September 26, 2009 11:23 AM
?
Posted by Anonymous | September 28, 2009 9:45 PM
zach uses a greg keplinger snare ? i asked him about it actually, why do people make shit up on here ? greg keplinger is a drum making legend from seattle in his late sixties. he made the snare zach uses.dude from big buisness/melvins uses one too.
Posted by Anonymous | September 28, 2009 9:53 PM
does anybody else think that "wavves" now sounds like a neo-Blink 182? nathan williams sounds like he's doing vocals on the cheshire-cat album. zach hill sounds like travis barker. Ryan Ulsh made much more sense on drums...his other band, the super vacations, are better anyways.
