Aluk Todolo

Aluk Todolo (mems-Diamatregon) played night one (10/1) of the WFMU fest at Music Hall of Williamsburg, supporting the legendary Faust and the blown-out darkwave-y synthpop of Cold Cave. The French band, which plays an interesting hybrid of black metal, noise, and krautrock rhythms, is in the midst of an east coast tour of the US in support of their latest LP Finsternis, and are playing Lit Lounge TONIGHT (10/3) with The Psychic Paramount. Their final show of that tour is on 10/4 (Sunday) at the Brooklyn Vegan sponsored show at Union Pool featuring Woe, Malkuth, and Castevet. The Brooklyn show starts at 8:30 and entry is just $8.

On Monday, Faust lead a workshop in Philadelphia.

as a serious question, im interested in what percent of the bands brooklyn vegan posts about are readers familiar with. Disregarding the really big U2/radiohead type bands that everyone heard of, I know that i only know 20-25 percent of the bands he's mentioning. is my low percentage the exception?

no, your not an exception. that's probably the same percentage of bands that i have heard of as well.

25% seems like very few. Im way out of the scene with kids and what not and I probably know 70-80% easily. Then again lots of the people who listen to this type of stuff are also record nerds and obsess about hearing every single band out there.

Aluk todolo, malkut, faust, psycic paramont. how are these band names that you dontn know? if you have an ear to the black metal underground you would definitly know of Aluk todolo. and their other projects. they are great, own both their cds, amazing hypnotic stuff. If you knowledge about music is what they have in stores like virgin or tower roecrods or amazon or whatever then forget it, if you need to see and add plastered all over town to be able to say you 'heard' of the band then no you wont know these artist and you dont deserve tolisten to them. but if you have a true desire for underground amazing musick then aluk todolo should be a well known name

12:55-someone can have a true desire in underground music and not have heard of aluk todolo. they may have a great interest in underground music but maybe not underground black metal music. wise up.
