Basia Bulat's Brooklyn show canceled due to visa issues (so here are some pictures from 2008)
photos by Chris La Putt

It's with heavy heart that I send this news.Basia fan Chris La Putt is especially upset about this, and reminded me that maybe now would be a good time to finally post those pictures he took of her on September 19, 2008 at Highline Ballroom. So here they are...
Tomorrow's Bell House show with Basia has
been cancelled due to visa issues :(

"writing cause they paid for some ad above"
um, no

um, yes
this blog isnt really about your opinion anymore, more about who you have to promote, no offense, its just turning into that

Don't "have to promote" anything.
Is this post really that weird? Basia Bulat (you may not know who she is, but some people do) canceled a headlining show in Brooklyn "due to visa issues", 24 hours before the show.
I think it's interesting and helpful for people to know, so I posted it. BV photographer Chris La Putt actually was upset about it, and actually did remind me how his year-old pics were never published, so I included them.

BV, why do you even need to justify yourself to some clueless idiot for posting info about an artist who headlined Highline Ballroom last year and was going to headline Bell House if it was not for the visa issue? Highline show was fantastic. Whoever's not familiar with her music, it's their loss.

Although i like some of the coverage on the larger acts, would like more coverage on the smaller shows and (good) new music. Thats why I started reading BV in the first place. I feel like there is less and less every month.

it was relevant, basia opened up for devotchka last year in what easily could have been a double-bill...
also she was a 2008 polaris nominee... along with holy fuck, p&a, and stars. ayayay

So is the rest of the show still on?

no show at all. Bell House's website says:
WED 10/7: 7:30pm / CANCELED
BASIA BULAT
Basia Bulat has been canceled due to visa issues. Full refunds are available at point of purchase. No make up date has been scheduled.

Why on earth would a Canadian have visa difficulties playing a show in New York? Did somebody file the paperwork late? That is basically the only way this could have happened. Goodness gracious Canadian hockey players cross that border every single day of the season without problem although I heard there is some type of blanket visa for those guys.

the visa issue probably stems from her criminal record. i kid, i kid, basia has a heart of gold.

"visa issues" is code for low ticket sales

id hit it

it could also be because you need a working visa for work, not a tourist visa.
I wish the artists would be more up front about these things instead of being so cryptic in their press releases.

I would like to give her some visa issues, if you know what I mean.
