Built to Spill @ Webster Hall - Oct 12, 2009 (joshbg2k)
Built to Spill

"I shelled out for the Tuesday show, though it is annoying how expensive the tickets are. I sincerely wish I could see DinoJr with them again, but what can you do. I'm going to need a sick setlist Tuesday, or I will be a bit annoyed. I don't doubt that it will be a great show, as they almost always are." [Anonymous]
Built to Spill played their first of two Webster Hall shows (which was their first of four NYC shows) last night (10/12). They do it again tonight. Last night's setlist is below...

Does anyone know what time BTS took the stage and for how long they played?

Posted by Dan | October 13, 2009 10:39 AM

i wonder if they got high before the show

They typically do a new cover song for each tour... looks like they may have dropped that from the setlist this go-round. Bummer... seen them pull off some bonkers covers in the past.

They took the stage at about 9:50 and they played until about 11:20 or so...

i can't make wednesday's show and have a ticket... looking to trade for thursday or sell. please help me out?

Posted by :( | October 13, 2009 10:51 AM

Yeah $35 tickets suck but it was free to see them at Siren Fest. Five dudes approaching middle age have families to support. Honestly, how much earning power are they gonna have in 10 years?

Posted by Anonymous | October 13, 2009 10:52 AM

they are trying to feed their families and weed isnt cheap

damn! i thought their setlist for sunday night's show in boston (er...cambridge) was awesome. and to think they still have three more nights in NYC.

Posted by Tom | October 13, 2009 11:05 AM

Yah, thats one awesome setlist. Goddamn.

Posted by Anonymous | October 13, 2009 11:06 AM

built to spill will always have earning power.... remember, like 6 years ago when they didn't have a new album and played three sold out nights at irving? yeah, that's what we call a permanent draw.

Get there early for the openers Violent SoHo, they were awesome!

Posted by Anonymous | October 13, 2009 11:22 AM

11:13am, when the bulk of their fanbase starts turning 40-50, those plans AIN'T GONNA BE VIABLE. We're not talking Springsteen here.

Beard to Spill!

ive seen them 3x...i like the new album lots but i dont think this is a band i need to see anymore.

Posted by Anonymous | October 13, 2009 11:36 AM

that's a great setlist if you just want to hear "the hits".

Great show, I'd say. It didn't compare to the Perfect from Now On show at Terminal 5 from last year.

Also.. that place had to be about 3/4 full. $35 and 4 weeknight shows might have been a bit much.

Last night was the first time I've seen Built to Spill live and I have to say I was a little underwhelmed. There were some good parts but it definitely got snoozy often. Overall it was a decent show, but I feel no reason to ever go see them again.

A curious aside: why don't people ever talk about Treepeople?

i remember seeing B2S in 1993...

Why hasn't someone tried to add 'MEH' to their [BTS] name—I like those, they make me laugh even if I don't agree.

Loved the music- but I'm thinking bts needs a better light show. and website. just my 2cents.

Posted by Anonymous | October 13, 2009 12:55 PM

it was definitely not their light show... blame webster's crappy ass light guy.

and with built to spill, what you see is what you get, a bunch of aging rockers who still play good music. it's about as laid-back as you can get. which means, yes, 30 bucks is way too much for a ticket.

I'll talk about the Treepeople. "Something Vicious for Tomorrow" is a fantastic album. I think every track is solid, my favorite being "Ad Campaigns." Also, I love the cover of The Smiths "Big Mouth Strikes Again."

Anyone who likes BTS should check out that cd. The Halo Benders, another Martsch band, is also worth hearing.

how long before they are playing the jam band festivals for big bucks?
