Built To Spill

Built to Spill played their second Webster Hall show in a row last night (10/13). That's where the pictures in this post are from (anyone have the setlist?).

Tonight (10/14), the band moves on to Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn where they'll also be playing two nights in a row. They'll then appear on Letterman the same night the NYC run ends (10/15).

The setlist and comments from night one (10/12), which it ends up NYC Taper taped, are HERE. More pictures from last night, below...

Does anyone have Tuesday's setlist?

Posted by Dan | October 14, 2009 12:32 PM

I'ma tell you one time: the new Built to Spill album is their best stuff in recent memory.

Posted by Justin Bieber | October 14, 2009 12:42 PM

Not for nuthin'.... but shouldn't the name of the band headlining the show be bigger than the name of the company who is presenting the show on the marquee?

Posted by Anonymous | October 14, 2009 12:42 PM

I thought that was a cool show! reminds me of my high school years

Set Man 2000 is (and I've been saying this for years) the best Set Man money can buy. You're just not gonna get a more accurate setlist. Truly in a league of its own.

Did anyone else think that Doug sounded like shit last night? I love BTS, and I've seen them before and thought they were great, but last night Doug's vocals really sort of ruined the show for me... he was shaky and off key. Was he sick or something?

Posted by Anonymous | October 14, 2009 2:30 PM

really? he sounded perfectly fine where i was

Posted by Anonymous | October 14, 2009 2:41 PM

Sick of you

Posted by Anonymous | October 14, 2009 2:42 PM

Doug sounded the same. Was that your 1st Built to Spill show?

I thought it was a lame set list and Dougs guitar solos are boring. Cut the solos and play the killer songs!

Posted by wingwalker77 | October 14, 2009 3:29 PM

Everything on the above setlist SUCKS! Except Big Dipper. I love that song!

Posted by Anonymous | October 14, 2009 3:30 PM

BUILT TO SUCK.

Posted by Anonymous | October 14, 2009 3:33 PM

Virginia Reels, wow.

Posted by JAE | October 14, 2009 3:42 PM

Doug can't sing anymore. What a waste of money.

Posted by Matt | October 14, 2009 3:49 PM

Doug MEHsh. Anyone who pays to see Doug sing well, needs hearing aids.

Posted by da troof | October 14, 2009 3:57 PM

There is no enemy sucks old cock!

Stop making bad records, and tour Perfect from now on forever!!!

Posted by wingwalker77 | October 14, 2009 4:05 PM

will tix be available at the door tonight? Anyone know what time they went on last night?

Posted by rocktober | October 14, 2009 4:16 PM

Don't know what folks are complaining about! It was an absolutely brilliant show!

Posted by anonymous | October 14, 2009 4:57 PM

Built to Suck went on at 945 last night. They started off sucking around 10. By 10:30, they bored the audience to tears. At 11, everyone walked out demanding a refund.

Posted by Steve | October 14, 2009 5:31 PM

They started at 9:45 both nights at Webster Hall and played until 11:30.

Make sure to catch Disco Doom who is opening up for them - Jason Albertini (from Helvetia) is playing bass with them and they put on an amazing show as well!

Posted by anonymous | October 14, 2009 5:33 PM

Really lame crowd but pretty sweet show. nothing is worse then going to a half empty show where no one moves, just complains

Posted by Anonymous | October 14, 2009 7:32 PM

I thought it was a great show and a cool setlist. F the haters

Posted by Andrew | October 14, 2009 8:37 PM

built to spill blows. always has

Posted by Anonymous | October 14, 2009 8:59 PM

I'm loving the intelligent comments just bashing the band or the ticket price. It was a great show, and if you were there and can actually complain about the songs played or the performance, you're being an uptight dick. What was annoying was the two very drunk people yelling things during the set. I wouldn't of even cared if they just shut up during the songs.

Tuesdays show was awesome, worth every penny

What were the set times at the Music Hall?

Posted by Anonymous | October 15, 2009 10:56 AM

Violent Soho and Disco Doom were also really great

Posted by Anonymous | October 15, 2009 11:56 AM

I thought the Tuesday night show was quite good. The opening acts were a lot of fun and BTS played a pretty solid set and I felt Virginia Reels was excellent!

Posted by Anonymous | October 15, 2009 1:08 PM

Doors at 8, Violent Soho from about 9:15 to 9:45, Disco Doom at 10:10 to 10:45, BTS from a little after 11 until about 12:40

Posted by Anonymous | October 15, 2009 1:30 PM

I heard they aren't going on until 11pm for Thurs MHoW show? Anyone?

Posted by Anonymous | October 15, 2009 1:33 PM

A little past 11pm last night. Maybe 10 after?

tonight's setlist fucking slayed the others

Posted by elizabeth | October 16, 2009 4:34 AM

I went to the Wednesday show and it kind of sucked. I've seen Built to Spill many times before and seen them kill. This time it was just boring. Seeing the setlists from Tuesday and Thursday make me jealous. Wednesday's setlist was ridiculously bad with one midtempo rocker after another and few hits.

Posted by Anonymous | October 16, 2009 8:01 AM

I think Tuesday's setlist wins. But last night was not far behind.

Posted by Anonymous | October 16, 2009 10:12 AM

Tuesday and Thursday setlists are very similar. Problem I saw last night was the crowd. Everyone just standing there despite the band rocking out.

Posted by Anonymous | October 16, 2009 10:19 AM

I agree: last night's show absolutely slayed. I've seen BTS consistently since 1997 and they definitely brought it last night. The setlist was def filled with great choices. Personally, and I say this as a big BTS fan, the new lp hasn't fully grabbed me yet. I was really glad they leaned more on the favorites and played a couple new ones in the mix for balance. Getting a taste of the new songs got me excited about going home and hearing more. But let's face it- we all know what we came for...And BTS def played to the crowd- which felt great. Doug's vocals sounded right on and the band played great. It also seemed that "Car" and "You Were Wrong" were played upon request- it was really fun to hear people around the crowd calling those tunes out and then seeing the band tear into them. Very cool.

And even though I was initially bummed that BTS wasn't going on until 11pm it was well worth the wait. We went over to Hugs for some beers and cruised back to MHOW at 10:30 and easily managed to get a great view on the elevated sides. MHOW is def one of the best venues in BK and NYC. Seeing BTS in such a small place was amazing. It reminded me of catching them at Southpaw a few years ago. It really says a lot about a band when they opt to play a few nights in smaller venues rather than one gigantic venue for one show.

I wish I didn't have a day job. I would have loved to hear what Doug DJed after the show. Did anyone stay later? Please drop a comment. I'd love to hear about it!!!

Great show. Looking forward to the next week-long BTS run!!!

Can we really trust a setlist posted by Anonymous? Where is SetMan2000?

Posted by SoundcheckMan450 | October 16, 2009 11:35 AM

Set list posted above was right on. I was there. And I'm not the one who posted it. For whatever that's worth...

Posted by CJM | October 16, 2009 12:40 PM

Yeah, but it's just not the same as a SetMan 2000 setlist. Come back, SetMan 2000!
