Legendary pro wrestling manager Captain Lou Albano died this morning, MTV.com is reporting.

Albano, who was sent home from the hospital earlier this week and place under hospice care, was 76 years old.

Albano is best known to non-wrestling fans as the father in Cyndi Lauper's "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" video. That helped kick off the Rock 'n Wrestling connection that launched the then-WWF to national prominence in the 1980s. [LA Times]

Captain Lou! RIP

video memories below...

Lou Albano

Louis Vincent Albano (July 29, 1933 - October 14, 2009[2]), better known by his ring name Captain Lou Albano, was an American professional wrestler, manager and actor. With an over-the-top personality and a penchant for boisterous declarations, Albano was the epitome of the antagonistic manager that raised the ire of wrestlers and incited the anger of spectators. Throughout his forty-two-year career, Albano guided 15 different tag teams and 4 singles competitors to championship gold. A unique showman, with an elongated beard, rubber band facial piercings, and loud outfits, he was the forefather of the 1980s Rock 'n' Wrestling Connection. Collaborating with Cyndi Lauper, Albano helped usher in wrestling's crossover success with a mainstream audience. Capitalizing on his success, he later ventured into Hollywood with various television, film, and music projects. [Wiki]

This is a great piece. Very thought provoking. I like the sort of ending that leaves it opn to personal input. Makes it work for just about everyone I think. Nicely done! I’ll subscribe.

I would totally buy a DVD set of the Mario Brothers Super Show! There's money to be made there...someone do something about it. Oh, and Friday's Legend of Zelda to start the weekend off. Aaaah the good ole days. RIP Lou.

Posted by Anonymous | October 15, 2009 12:26 PM

Oh I'm stupid. Someone did do something....

Shout! Factory released two four-disc volumes of the show in 2006 (distributed by Sony Pictures Home Entertainment), which featured the episodes with the Zelda previews (except on "King Mario of Cramalot" for unexplained reasons) and custom-made commercial indents reinstated, but with the featured songs still edited out. However, on the second volume, due to legal issues, four of the animated episodes were presented as "bonus episodes" without their respective live-action segments. Other than the four "bonus" episodes, the other episodes were arranged in production, not broadcast, order.

My bad.
