Cold Cave
Cold Cave

"Cold Cave was one of the most hyped CMJ acts to hit New York last week. Their dark, almost industrial music went well with the extremely dark stage [at The Suffolk] and with their look- all black clothes and somber faces. I felt like a vampire or a bat in a cave. But I wasn't scared. Cold Cave's music is both slow and aggressive, moody and somehow poppy. While the crowd brooded I bet inside they were ecstatic. The music of Cold Cave is powerful and visceral. Maybe a little boring in a live setting, but something tells me that's the point. Enjoy the darkness." [Microphone Memory Emotion]
Cold Cave played before Ted Leo at The Suffolk on Friday night. Tanlines, Glasser (backed by Tanlines), Harlem, and Lemonade also played the True Panther / Matador bill. More pictures from the show below...

Cold Cave sounds like the music that people listen to as they lower lotion in a basket, to a women in a well, in your dungeon. if you know what I mean.

Sound was terrible in that room. Bathroom lines were painfully long. Just a shitty venue in general. Not planning to go back if they keep doing shows there.

Cold Cave was painfully boring at the Market Hotel and took an interminable amount of time to set up.

I thought that this showcase was terribly disorganized. I was in line for about an hour and a half and every 15 minutes, someone at the door would shout, "You are wasting your time, 100 people have to leave for just one of you to get in!" Then, 10 minutes later, they'd change their story but were just as insistent about people leaving the line. Finally, right before Cold Cave played, they let 50 people in, which was just about the majority of the line. What the hell?!

Are you kidding? You try sweating out of a little record store in a basement and you see how quickly you go looking for love and approval. This is Dominic's shot at that kind of thing; don't rain on his parade!

Being boring in a live setting is "the point?" What pretentious hipster bullshit.
