La Roux fought sickness to play Highline Ballroom w/ Body Language - pics & setlist

photos by Ryan Muir

La Roux

Eleanor Jackson has been ill for a while, and it's concentrated mostly in her lungs which obviously makes the fact that she's singing through it rather incredible. She's had to cancel a few of La Roux's gigs, but they went on last night. She said that it was an abbreviated setlist and apologized profusely. Meanwhile, her set is apparently usually forty-five minutes, but last night was close to forty. How abbreviated!

She was a complete trooper and sounded absolutely wonderful though, and thank you to Cherrytree Records for bringing her over and allowing me to see her live. I can't wait for her to come back in February. [The Music Box]

The NYC show in February is happening at Webster Hall. More pictures and the setlist from last night at Highline Ballroom, below...

One of the best albums of the year, but I understand it might not be good enough for genius talents like 4:31 and 4:40.

"One of the best albums of the year."

Please just stop.

I hate everything electronic and make fun of everything progressive. What is she wearing? I am wearing much cooler things. Brb, adult swim is on.

ha. "progressive". good one.

the opening band Body Language were great, actually thought they were better than La Roux!

Posted by Anonymous | October 27, 2009 10:12 PM

I thought both bands were great! Had never heard of Body Language before and they totally won me over. Elly from La Roux wasn't feeling well and it showed a little but she still managed an exciting performance. Bought Webster tickets this morning! And the sound was pretty much perfect to these ears.

The show was short, but very good. The album itself is indeed one of the best I heard all year. Fucking losers need to stop commenting on music they don't get.

gotta love a headliner that plays nine songs..sheesh

Posted by Anonymous | October 28, 2009 10:26 AM

She was sick and still put on a great show. Also performing 9 songs for someone who has only one album is not that unusual, especially considering tickets only cost $15. I have seen many bands who play 40 minute shows on their first tour and expand the set to 1.5-2hrs by the time second album is out. Get a clue.

haha, i've seen the 'puckered asshole' commenter on this site a lot. dood loves the starfish.

The show sucked! Everything was playback! Body Language was all playback except for vocals. La Roux was sick but stilll........

Posted by Anonymous | October 28, 2009 9:41 PM

It was a GREAT show and Elly was a right trooper to go on when she was that sick. I even got to meet her and get photos with her afterwards. They played most of my favs from the album. I missed Body Language but I don't really care. The only thing I didn't like about the show was the fact that no one in the crowd was dancing. What is with you Americans and your inability to do much more than stand at an SRO show? :P

To the balding guy in white going down the stairs: I've seen you at many shows

Posted by Anonymous | October 30, 2009 3:49 PM

having been there for soundcheck, it was not all playback. next time try not to post unless you know what you're talking about.
