Pavement

It would be fair to say, we at ATP get to present some very special bands. But we are beyond excited to announce that legendary US band Pavement will headline and curate the weekend of May 14th-16th in 2010!

After years of speculation, arguably the most important American band of the Nineties is returning to the stage with the line-up of Mark Ibold, Scott "Spiral Stairs" Kannberg, Stephen Malkmus, Bob Nastanovich and Steve West reuniting for dates around the world in 2010 including curating and performing at ATP Weekend 2 on May 14th - 16th.

That's a full four months before Pavement play four shows in a row at Central Park Summerstage in NYC. And to quote Hiro (who sent me this, thx!), "so Coachella looks pretty good for them!"

Much of the excitement of buying those Central Park tickets was the thought that those shows would be the first chance anyone had to see a reunited Pavement. But now they are probably going to play a shitload of shows before then, lessening the perceived value of those tickets I was so excited to buy.

that's what you get for liking a shitty band like pavement.
good for them for milking fools from their money. why would ANYONE assume this was anything but a money grab. their first shows reunited are going to be the last ones on sale.

the most boring overrated band ever. well besides wavves.

like when I skipped out on the Chavez reunion show to attend Rainer Maria's last show ever at Bowery, only to have the band add another "last" show the following night at North Six.

Come on Kurt....you knew those Central Park shows wouldn't be their first shows back!

They even said they will be touring in UK....

*crosses fingers for Coachella*

Posted by militia swines | October 7, 2009 10:53 AM

except that the Jesus Lizard is actually good

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2009 10:54 AM

PLEASE do not play ACL's new ZilkerPark-Toilet.

PLEASE PLAY STUBB's IN TX!!!!

Posted by TXn | October 7, 2009 11:14 AM

"*crosses fingers for Coachella*"

ditto! im so hoping that the true reunion is in indio

Posted by bobby the rookie | October 7, 2009 11:14 AM

who is this "Pavement" band everyone's talking about? and what's a coachella?

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2009 11:20 AM

Please no Pavement/Wavves comparisons. That's like comparing a pretty good band to Wavves.

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2009 11:25 AM

@10:45 and @10:54, why do you waste your time on here? it's not your favorite band, but so what, Pavement get a lot of people excited...and if they are cashing in, who gives a shit, it's called making a living

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2009 11:29 AM

It sucks that Pavement isn't curating ATP NY 2010.

Posted by wingwalker77 | October 7, 2009 11:45 AM

how do you know that?

MBV is curating again.

Let's hope that ATP NY 2010 even happens first

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2009 11:58 AM

the best things in life are free
but you can keep em for the birds and bees

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2009 11:59 AM

Hell, why wouldn't Pavement curate ATP UK, play Coachella and curate ATP NY? At this point, nothing would surprise me.

Plus, MBV curated ATP NY and then Nightmare before Xmas in the UK four months later...

one benefit though is when the pavement central park shows roll around they will have shaken the dust off.

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2009 12:01 PM

I'm curating an excel spreadsheet right now.

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2009 12:01 PM

You're all a bunch of cynical cunts.

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2009 12:02 PM

Are there any clues about the rest of the lineup?

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2009 12:34 PM

here's hoping for a secret first reunion at sxsw or hell somewhere in nyc as warm up for coachella which im sure they'll play.

Posted by pdiddy | October 7, 2009 12:40 PM

they'll be playing Market Hotel on Jan 4th under the name "Asphalt" -- you heard it here first

Posted by pro tip guy | October 7, 2009 12:42 PM

Hey Pavement! Stay the fuck away from Coachella.

Most O V E R R A T E D band of the '90's.

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2009 1:27 PM

If you go to Coachella and you don't want to see Pavement, I'm sure some awesome band like Animal Collective will be playing on another stage.

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2009 1:30 PM

that Chavez reunion show was AWESOME

there'll be more international dates than US ones, it's no surprise their ATP will be in the UK.

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2009 2:00 PM

They are going to play ATP in the US. They are selling out like coldplay. They will play several venues in NY, besides summerstage.

Summerstage is the worst. I'm glad I didn't buy tickets to that shit.

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2009 2:56 PM

Yeah, maybe they'll play someplace REALLY great, like Terminal 5. Boy that would be swell.

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2009 3:07 PM

I'm bored with these 90's bands.

the problem with having guys like this curate s that they have no idea what's going on in music anymore

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2009 3:32 PM

wowee zowee!

Posted by imkoreansowhat | October 7, 2009 3:49 PM

What if the Central Park shows are the last US shows? im guessing Central Park was an early leak thanks to BV and not the way they wanted to announce the reunion. please can i see them @ coachella with 90,000 of my closest friends, it will be so intimate like the old days watching them on a video screen or like ants on stage in 100 degree heat and 400 mile walk to where I park, sounds just awesome

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2009 4:10 PM

"They are selling out like coldplay."

that's the funniest thing I've seen in a while.

@3:32, please enlighten us with your keen, cutting edge sensibilities on today's music, and what choices you would make as curator of an ATP festival.

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2009 4:22 PM

3:34- As in, they haven't been to Market Hotel? Ignorance is bliss in this case

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2009 4:37 PM

Pavement can be the only band on the Coachella mainstage the whole three days....and I'll still be in the Sahara tent the whole time.

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2009 7:22 PM

lol @ 11:25

Posted by Anonymous | October 8, 2009 10:38 AM

"Are there any clues about the rest of the lineup?"

Yea, yazbot, lineup is
Mark, Spiral, Malk, Nastanovich, Steve West

what else do you need to know?

Posted by Anonymous | October 8, 2009 11:23 AM

Steve just wants to go to TGI Fridays and watch Sportscenter

Posted by Anonymous | October 8, 2009 9:57 PM

You are a very paranoid man

Posted by luis vuitton | October 17, 2009 11:22 AM

I really wanted to stay away but...playing atp ny (which they're probably not) = selling out? i think you need to do a little more research on atp...
