Ian from Riverboat Gamblers

Ian got hit by a car and is recovering in the hospital A letter from the band with info on how you can help pitch in on his medical expenses, below...
It's definitely been a trying few days. On the night of Saturday October 17th, while riding his bike home, a car hit Ian Mcdougall, guitarist of our band Riverboat Gamblers. He sustained some pretty heavy injuries including a broken hip, a broken wrist and hemmoraging under the skull along with many lacerations, torn ligaments, bruises and and scrapes. The band is still planning to play Fun Fun Fun Fest in Austin on November 8th with only one guitarist. He was rushed by ambulance to Brackenridge hospital in Austin and stayed in the ICU for 2 days before being moved into his own room where he is undergoing physical therapy while awaiting the results on X-rays and MRIs as well as a deluge of other various tests.
That being said, the prognosis is better than we had first thought. We are happy that he is going to be ok and that he is alive and with us. Unfortunately, not only is he in for a long recovery and is in a lot of pain, but he will be celebrating his birthday in bed with hospital food.
On another unfortunate note, there are a pile of bills currently gaining a Mt. Everest-like summit from all his hospital expenses. We set up a PayPal account and Tumblr site for our band mate and friend to try and help him get on top of the debt and focus on his recovery. His PayPal account email is ian.gambler @ gmail.com (remove the spaces). Anything you can afford to give will be greatly appreciated by Ian and his family. Thank you all for your support and we wish Ian the speediest of recoveries. [Riverboat Gamblers]

"Shut your mouth you piece of shit trash. He was hit by a car loser."
Precisely why you should buy some form of health insurance.

I guess you understand then that all jobs dont provide health insurance and health insurance is very expensive every month, not to mention they will get out of paying any part of it if they can. Thats why families go bankrupt you see. You probably dont read the news of any sort so I wouldn't expect you to understand that. Or maybe your a right wing nut.

These comments are fucking idiocy.
Hit by a car + no health insurance = a shit-ton of bills
NOT having insurance is like playing Russian Roulette. Sure, you're fine if you don't go to the doctor when you get sick, but you see what happens when an accident happens?
Yeah it sucks that he has a lot of bills, but what the fuck? He is the idiot with no health insurance...

I'm not a dirty Brooklyn hipster-- I work full time. I have health insurance.
In fact, I go to the free clinic all the time and wave my health insurance card around to spite the poor people

Could some of you people at least TRY and have a fucking heart.

Once again, it sucks dude got hit by a car - BUT!
Such is the price you pay when playing the game of 'No Health Insurance'
Have fun declaring bankruptcy

have a heart guys he was hit by a car. it does suck cause he has no insurance and those hospital bills go well into the thousands.
Posted by Anonymous | October 27, 2009 5:49 PM
This is exactly what is wrong with the US 'health care' system.

you think this is a 'game'? fuck you. seriously, fuck you.
Posted by Anonymous | October 27, 2009 5:51 PM
Stating a simple fact. The dude is going to have to declare bankruptcy to get relief from those bills. No amount of paypal donations are going to get you the $100K+ you would need to pay them off. Yes, it sucks. Yes, it is unfair.
What the fuck are we even arguing about?
What did you want me to say?
"oooooo poor guy! FUCK THE USA! FUCK MEDICINE! FUCK INSURANCE!'

Its pretty common to have a fund raiser in other states for people in the hospital in major situations. Either your a rightwing selfish inbred or your a Manhattan trust fund brat. You should take your dumb comments elsewhere and go enjoy some Fox news. Most expensive insurance and healthcare is in the U.S.

Sorry brohammer, not a righty tough thanks for assuming so!
Honestly, what was the expected reaction here? As I have said before, THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU DO NOT HAVE HEALTH INSURANCE

What! Brohammer? Yeah I thought so. Its very very common once again to raise money for people in the hospital in serious situations for one of the millions plus Americans without health insurance and even for people with it. Seriously go somewhere else with your pathetic remarks.
The expected reaction is to not make straight out rude comments to some one in the hospital at the moment.

Why not go after the driver and insurance of the car? Ian should not have to pay a dime.
Something is not right here. There is something they are not stating. If you get hit by a car, the insurance pays out. If the driver was not insured, most states have a no-fault program. Something is fishy.
Posted by Anonymous | October 27, 2009 8:09 PM
Maybe he can't sue the driver because the accident is deemed his fault (e.g., maybe he ran a red light).
I think no-fault comes into play only when the two (or more) parties involved in an accident all have insurance. Party A's insurance covers Party A's losses, Party B's insurance covers Party B's losses, etc. As a bicycle rider, he must not have had insurance, so he can't collect under no-fault (if I'm right).
What's so bad about declaring bankruptcy? Since he's a musician, I doubt he has anything to speak of, asset-wise.
Posted by Anonymous | October 27, 2009 9:58 PM
yeah, whoever was driving the car is responsible for the costs, meaning THEIR insurance should pay for it... unless it was his fault, then he would be responsible for the costs.

I see the elitist, condescending douchebags are here is force. Some people can't afford health insurance. I am also amused by the amateur forensics being done here.
Posted by Anonymous | October 28, 2009 12:42 AM
seriously why dont you all without insurance just buy it, its your own fault you dont have it
Posted by Anonymous | October 28, 2009 11:11 AM
Not to be rude but... who is this band?

I agree that something is fishy. Ian must have done something if he can't go after the driver. Red light? Drunk? What are they not telling us? Why would an innocent person have to pay for hospital bills?

maybe they cant find the driver dum dum, most people dont hang around after they almost kill someone

"maybe they cant find the driver dum dum, most people dont hang around after they almost kill someone"
If it were a hit-and-run, it would have been clearly mentioned.
