Still Life Still played Mercury Lounge (pics), again tonight
photos by Vincent Cornelli

"Clutching his Jagermeister and an unlit cigarette, Aaron Romaniuk, drummer for Still Life Still, was an endearing presence at the Arts & Crafts showcase at North by Northeast in June. Twenty-three years old and beaming, the high school dropout had spent a decade playing house parties in Toronto's East York with his four best friends, and now he was being toasted by his new record label as Feist jammed onstage with Broken Social Scene. Kevin Drew, Broken Social Scene's singer, had produced his band's first album, and Romaniuk looked like a kid whose dream had come true.Still Life Still, who will also be back for CMJ, played their first of two shows at Mercury Lounge last night (10/7). Kurt Vile was on the same bill, but went on hours later."We were just jamming and never expected anything," Romaniuk said in anticipation of last month's release of Girls Come Too, a debut record of spacey indie rock that forgoes obvious pop hooks for minor chords and discordant keyboards. "It's blood in, blood out with this band. We believe if you're happy with that, everything else will fall into place." [Vancouver Sun]
The next SLS show is tonight (10/8), and this time with another killer bill - Thee Oh Sees and The Fresh and Onlys (tickets). More pictures from last night, below...

I don't even know where to start. As a musician, I am embarrassed. Let me issue this from start to finish.
First, I came across this article and I thought it was a joke. Could every single person in a band all look like trashy, hip assholes? After reading further, my deepest fears were confirmed. But a lip ring AND swooshing, seemingly month-dirty hair? I'm in shock.
I knew what the music sounded like before I even listened to it, but I still gave it a try just so I could be fair, so I visited their Myspace page. The music was precisely as I had imagined. I have been playing guitar for 15 years, playing shows for 5 years (I am only 24 years old) and I'd like to think that I know talent when I see it. Fellas, you can get as many record deals as you want, but you are still a mockery of actual musicians. Way to sound like every other crap-ass band out there that is only desirable to 13 years olds (that don't even like the music).
My opinion? Shave that dumb-ass hair of yours. Put on some pants that fit. Take a shower. Find some shirts that don't look like they were found at the bottom of a sewer. And here's the most important part: try to be unique and true to yourself instead of being like everyone else.
By the way, if you want people to ever be able to ever find your album, you better be posting links everywhere because Googling "Girls Come Too" provides quite disturbing results.
Te pitäisi hävetä.

@How Embarrassing, chill the fuck out man. they're doing what they enjoy - you make it sound like music is supposed to sound like certain something you have in mind. You're embarrassing yourself and musicians alike acting like that. If you are so unhappy about it, go and do your own thing and show off what you can do rather than get mad at them for no apparent reason.
