I've known about tonight's (10/2) Southpaw show for a while, but I only just realized that it wasn't part of our original set of announced tour dates that did list Tuesday's Bowery Ballroom show with the same lineup of The Twilight Sad and Brakesbrakesbrakes (Bowery tix). THE TWILIGHT SAAAAAAADDDDD.

Don't know if you can tell, but I'm excited.

The show was better when it involved Frightened Rabbit. At least in the incarnation I saw it in in SF recently. WWPJ were also great. Sadtly, the Twilight Sad were disappointingly boring and overly mopey.

brooklynvegan, are you sure The Twilight Sad goes on stage at 10pm? If doors for the other show open at 11pm. I'm sure they'll play a 1-hour set. Doesn't leave much time for the venue to kick everyone else out.

By the way, I sent those Southpaw people an email asking for the set times because of that late show and didn't get a response. Crappy customer service. Blah.

"Doesn't leave much time for the venue to kick everyone else out."

agreed, but this is what they told me:

7:30 - doors
8 - We Were Promised Jetpacks,
9 - Brakes,
10 - Twilight Sad

Ok then, thanks BV!

@yse: don't know about that SF show but I've seen Twilight Sad a few times before and they've been great every time, but then again when you shove them in between two highly pop bands... can't think of their kind of music going down too well with the pop crowd you probably belong to. (Judging from the rest of your post here)

Sorry about that, what email did you use?

Comment above about the twilight sad being overly mopey, I'll second that. Frightened Rabbit and we were promised jetpacks put on a great show though. I'd see jetpacks again...and again.

@Anonymous - October 2, 2009 6:38 PM. I sent it to the email listed on the contact us section of the website.

I personally thought Twilight Sad sounded AMAZING last night. Their music is a beautiful downer of a noisy thing and that's what makes them great, in my opinion. Sure it's not as widely appealing as the other three Fat Cat bands that appear on this tour, but I find them to be way more interesting.

To each its own. If you like poppy stuff, don't come knocking on The Twilight Sad's door.

Julian Cope on Mac:

"I gots to tell y’all that when I heard the other day that the Bunnymen’s Ian McCulloch is writing his autobiography, I nearly shat my undies laughing so hard (good job I don’t wear any!); Ian Mac write a book? A man for whom completing a single song on his own is a struggle of Everest the Hard Way proportions is hardly going to write a book. Ian, I’m speechless at your continued arrogance in the face of no evidence whatsoever. In my opinion, you’ve been a dried-up shell of a husk of a man since just after OCEAN RAIN, so don’t embarrass us all with your ludicrous claims that you’re gonna write an autobiography. Two words… No Way. Writing a book involves discipline and hard work, two things you never nailed in the past and never will. As I heard it, you even said in the press that your book will be better than the Bible. Well, in two ways it may well be like the Bible: 1) it’ll be full of half-truths and outright lies, and 2) it’ll have been written by umpteen uncredited writers and you’ll name yourself solely as its author. There you go, dumkopf, I just handed you the map: don’t even bother buying yourself a pen, son; just do what you’ve always done throughout your career; get someone else to do most of the work then claim all the credit yourself. I even have a title already: MAC USER. And with that, I shall sweep off into the Beltane sunset. Yowzah!"
