The Roots are at Brooklyn Bowl. You can check out the video for their new single "How I Got Over," below. Questlove invited the Dirty Projectors to come when he was on Fallon. That would be pretty cool if they showed up and played (I know nothing. Just saying).

It's the first night of WFMU Fest at Music Hall of Williamsburg with '70s krautrock band Faust, new Matador signees Cold Cave and more. Pissed Jeans and Teenage Jesus and the Jerks headline the next two night, respectively.

Rodrigo y Gabriela will perform "Buster Voodoo" tonight on The Tonight Show with Conan O'brien.

Grizzly Bear will make their Tonight Show debut on October 12th

Jay Reatard plays a Shattered Records showcase at (Le) Poisson Rouge with Box Elders, Hunx & His Punx, Nobunny and Useless Eaters. Check out our interview with Jay.

Dredg and Salman Rushdie visit Housing Works Bookstore for a benefit.

Book publisher Mal-O-Mar (who's putting out a newly translated version of Baudelaire's My Heart Laid Bare) hosts a show at Issue Project Room with Genesis P-Orridge (s/he canceled), Holy Shit and others. "Holy Shit is artist and designer Matt Fishbeck in collaboration with a lot of different people - Ariel Pink, Christopher Owens of Girls, and more. Their record, Stranded at Two Harbors, is out on UUAR."

Television's Richard Lloyd plays Maxwell's with Demander, Tourmaline and The Old Wives. Maxwell's is also where The Wrens have three shows coming up.

The show you've been waiting for: Dru Hill, Kace, Next, Intro, Mace and Nice at Nokia Theatre. Video below.

There's only two nights left for the Maze at Death by Audio - see Crash Diet Crew, Cntrl Top (which has members of These Are Powers), Hotchacha, Island's Eyelids, and Deborah Karp & Meredith Arena.

We're just hours away from Pitchfork revealing the top 20 albums of the 2000s.

If you're in Montreal, it's Pop Montreal.

Hey guys,

I'm thinking of going to Philadelphia tomorrow with a friend. Have you been there? Any recommendations? Bars, music, parts of towns, interesting sites? What would you do there?

Thanks to any informative responses.

Oh didnt see the political thoughts above my philly post.. I don't want to seem as an entity who just passes over such things.

Yeah it would be great if the younger people of new york would actually get together to discuss the state of politics, our personal freedoms and such. Maybe we just have a subconscious white flag waving in fear of being persecuted or blacklisted as freedom fighters? I think inside we are getting "fed" up.. you know. We have no heroes in media, in music because those are regulated by corporations who tie to the richest most "powerful" people. So the TV and radio and most major internet outlets don't tell us much. Most people just wanna fit in, live decent... but who knows what can happen when the people just trust in the government and what they do behind closed doors, while putting on a show and acting as elected officials who care for the people, but really just go with the plan of those who hold true power over them.

There arent many well run forums for new yorkers to discuss things are there? I can barely find an alternative music / events blog that has an open discussion forum.. that's not an awesome thing.

Oh please. How many dipshitsters do I see wearing Che bullshit and even Lenin pins on their bags and hats? Too fuckin many. Sure, you're happy to make a comment on a blog but what the fuck do you do when you see that shit in real life? I actually call these asswads out. You blog comment. The problem these days is that too many people act too self righteous via text. But when it comes to actual physical exertion, you are the biggest fucking pussies on the planet. So fuck you and your caps. Great site BTW

Posted by Anonymous | October 2, 2009 12:45 AM

12:45

do you take part in this "physical exertion" you are talking about?

How is he or she acting self righteous? Looks like the person is concerned about the state of the country which affects everyone, not just their self.

Your aggression makes it seem like you are right though, it must be influencing people well.

Talib showed up at Bk Bowl tonight and did a few songs with the Roots. Lots of bro dudes there too. Sort of iffy.

Posted by Anonymous | October 2, 2009 2:05 AM

^^^What exactly is a "bro dude"? Do you mean black people? If so, is there a problem that black people decided to attend a hip hop show that you happened to be at? You're the one who is coming off "sort of iffy"!

Posted by blackhat | October 2, 2009 11:33 AM

I think a "bro dude" in this case is a frat boy. Stand down, Nat X.
