Kill Hannah

Chicago's nu romantics KILL HANNAH woke up on the eve of wrapping their fall tour with Jet, Papa Roach and Morningwood to a find their 15-passenger van and 14-foot trailer stolen. Taken between 4am and 11am today, Wednesday, November 11 from the front of the Holiday Inn on 900 Packer Ave, Philadelphia, PA-the same location that rock trio Mae had their van stolen from just a week earlier-the band lost over $120,000 in gear and merchandise, including one-of-a-kind vintage custom guitars and vintage custom effects. The theft comes just over a year after a devastating fire in Europe destroyed everything on the band's bus.

Lead singer Mat Devine says, "We're devastated and speechless. We've been touring so hard around the world for the past seven years and this is the most evil thing we've witnessed. Special Crimes say this was a coordinated heist."

The band regretfully has to cancel their remaining tour dates, scheduled for the Electric Factory in Philadelphia [Wednesday] and the Nokia Theatre in New York City [tonight]. Their seventh annual "New Heart For Xmas" weekend of shows and events are still scheduled in Chicago on December 18 at Reggie's Rock House and December 19 at Metro.

Police believe the perp may not be a fan of emo. Seriously though, that sucks. List of stolen gear below...

Specific gear stolen include:
- Epiphone Elitist Riviera Custom Shop SN#T301722
- 1992 Ernie Ball Music Man Stingray Bass
- Pair of matching vintage 1968 Fender Bassman Heads Custom Shop
- 2- Gibsons ES-135 One Red /one blue)
- 2003 Gibson Firebird White
- Marshall Triple Lead Stack

more snarkiness about crappy bands please!

Posted by Anonymous | November 12, 2009 1:20 PM

our special hair gel was in that van ...ahahahahahahahaa

Posted by Anonymous | November 12, 2009 1:20 PM

$120,000 includes their drug habits and all the teeny boopers buying their merch.....oh and theie hair products and make-ups.

Posted by Anonymous | November 12, 2009 1:22 PM

I can't believe the FBI isn't involved. This has been going on in Philly for about 10 years. There's probably a list of about 50-100 bands who have had vans stolen or gear. Unbelievable. Where are the venue owners on this?

Posted by Anonymous | November 12, 2009 1:25 PM

get a club for your steering wheel or better yet pay a roadie schlub to sleep in the van, how fucking hard is it you morons? who would ever $120,000 (inflated by $100,000 for insurance purposes of course) in anything unattended?
anyone wanna start a paypal account for them to recoup their losses like mae?

Posted by Anonymous | November 12, 2009 1:26 PM

"anyone wanna start a paypal account for them to recoup their losses like mae?"

Only if they promise to break up and not use the money to buy instruments.

Posted by Anonymous | November 12, 2009 1:27 PM

Anyone who has ever been on any tour can tell you.

Either:

- you draw straws for who sleeps in the van keeping guard every night.

- it sucks but you schlep you gear into your hotel/place you are crashing.

-pay for secure parking

Those three rules will or course not fully insure nothing fucked up ever happens, but it really aggravates me when I hear about bands leaving all of their gear and merch unattended in a hotel parking lot, or on the street.

Just because the chances of losing you shit is SLIM, it sure happens enough that the 20 minutes of shitty drunken late night schlepping is better than losing $120,000 in gear and merch. Although that number is probably propped up a bit for insurance purposes.

I applaud the criminals for helping to prevent this band from polluting the world with their terrible music.

Just kidding, this shit is not cool.

Posted by Anonymous | November 12, 2009 1:39 PM

This is terrible I hope they are able to find it and catch the people who did this!

Posted by ApexProfessionals | November 12, 2009 1:46 PM

Posted by Anonymous | November 12, 2009 1:52 PM

Posted by jeff | November 12, 2009 2:02 PM

Posted by Anonymous | November 12, 2009 2:03 PM

i am selling kill hannah stuff for cheap on ebay and craigslist. lots to sell. t shirts and cds.

Posted by Anonymous | November 12, 2009 2:05 PM

"$120,000??? who are these people?"

when you factor in the van and trailer, $120,000 sounds about right.

Posted by andy | November 12, 2009 2:08 PM

Led Zeppelin had $203,000 in cash stolen from their NYC hotel room in '73. I think there's a pattern here.

Posted by Anonymous | November 12, 2009 2:09 PM

"we be chillin' at the holladay innnnn..."

Posted by Anonymous | November 12, 2009 2:09 PM

total inside job with the people working at the holiday inn.

Posted by Anonymous | November 12, 2009 2:17 PM

anon 1:27, that's hilarious, post more often please, & noamjamski 1:37, you're absolutely correct.
still sucks tho & i feel for the band.

Posted by Anonymous | November 12, 2009 2:18 PM

These guys have been around for a while. I used to watch them at the Metro when i lived in Chicago in the late 90's. Hope their gear turns up, I've had a couple guitars stolen out of cars or clubs over the years and it stings

Posted by tone77 | November 12, 2009 2:21 PM

Hey touring musicians: FUCKING BUY INSURANCE FOR YOUR GEAR.

morons.

Posted by JT | November 12, 2009 2:22 PM

this shit sucks, but out of all the bands it could have happened too, at least it was them.

Posted by Anonymous | November 12, 2009 2:22 PM

This sounds like something Mac, Charlie and Dennis would do---> steal emo-band vans. Look for the It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia episode, coming soon!

Posted by Anonymous | November 12, 2009 2:24 PM

okay- i'm from philly... and live in nyc now, but really, philly is pretty hood. you have to watch your back! and your vehicles!

haven't you ever seen 'parking wars??' i bet you their van wasn't stolen, but towed by garfield!!! haha

Posted by Anonymous | November 12, 2009 2:29 PM

that's the gear that was stolen? yeah sucks, but if you can't gig because you lost some guitars and amps and some pedals then you are a slave to the schlock. Rent gear, the show must go on.

Posted by Anonymous | November 12, 2009 2:36 PM

good.

Posted by Anonymous | November 12, 2009 2:41 PM

I cant believe no one is talking about this heinous bill

>>Kill Hannah, Jet, Papa Roach and Morningwood

1 down 4 to go ..go theives !

Posted by Anonymous | November 12, 2009 2:57 PM

papa roach should get their posse after the thieves

Posted by Anonymous | November 12, 2009 3:04 PM

No one ever steals shit from my van.....maybe that is because I am always in there raping unsuspecting women.

Posted by Anonymous | November 12, 2009 3:11 PM

updated: http://chicagoist.com/2009/11/12/kill_hannahs_van_trailer_recovered.php

Their van and trailer were found, no word on the gear.

"total inside job with the people working at the holiday inn."

Posted by Anonymous | November 12, 2009 3:53 PM

Police say 16 vehicle thefts have been reported from the hotel parking lot this year.

i wonder many were band vans. NOTE TO BANDS DONT FUCKING STAY THERE! or anyone else for that matter

Posted by Anonymous | November 12, 2009 4:15 PM

Is this Perez Hilton-style drawing on pictures a thing now

Posted by Anonymous | November 12, 2009 4:17 PM

Posted by Anonymous | November 12, 2009 4:29 PM

When is President Obama going to convene a summit on this??? Its a national crisis! fuck the job rate, this is more important

Posted by Anonymous | November 12, 2009 4:39 PM

has "Special Crimes" coordinated some surveillance cameras for this Holidae Inn. Or 24 security guards on-site?

Posted by Anonymous | November 12, 2009 4:43 PM

Sleep in the van, are you serious? Do you have any idea what that will do to a man's eye liner.

Posted by Anonymous | November 12, 2009 4:46 PM

they are fucked

Posted by Anonymous | November 12, 2009 5:07 PM

The special hair gel is being chopped up in Jersey.

Posted by Anonymous | November 12, 2009 5:08 PM

the show cant go on because the entire set is probably back-tracked on computers and samplers.

Posted by Anonymous | November 12, 2009 5:33 PM

If you've ever been to that hotel (and I have!), it's total wasteland (meaning nothing around) in the immediate vicinity and the stadium/arenas complex to the south - meaning it's totally deserted in the middle of the night (and non-event days!). Plus the hotel is kinda dumpy. So yeah, they should've had somebody guarding the equipment all night!

Posted by Anonymous | November 12, 2009 5:39 PM

and why would we give a shit about their gear being stolen?

Posted by Anonymous | November 12, 2009 5:41 PM

actually it's their fault cause they should have known philly is a fucking hole and nobody needs to stop there on tour.

Posted by Anonymous | November 12, 2009 5:43 PM

"This is the second misfortune within a year for the "Kill Hannah" band.
Last year, on a European tour, the band's bus caught fire, destroying all their equipment."

I would have to assume my car is safe when i park it in a hotel parking lot. however, knowing mae's trailer was taken the week before they should of been more careful.

Posted by Anonymous | November 12, 2009 5:43 PM

This constant band equipment and van theft use to happen in Chicago a lot in the early 90's.

Boy this band is a bunch of poseurs though.
Im sure American Idol might like these douches.

Posted by Anonymous | November 12, 2009 5:58 PM

i love this band's music, and they are nice guys who never give up. nor should they. warm wishes and huge blast of support from nyc!

Posted by lover | November 12, 2009 5:59 PM

Its definitely another musician stealing all this stuff from outside that building. Nathan Williams, for example.

Posted by Anonymous | November 12, 2009 6:14 PM

maybe they give up the dream and get day jobs now.

Posted by Anonymous | November 12, 2009 7:18 PM

Maybe they will just give up for good after this. THey should have stolen morningwood!!

Posted by poo bear | November 12, 2009 9:19 PM

maybe they should give up music and go into the corporate world working a 9-5. that means they better buy some nice collar shirts, slacks and suits, prep their resumes and comb their hair!

Posted by Anonymous | November 12, 2009 9:26 PM

souf pheelly wotwot

lulz

Posted by Anonymous | November 12, 2009 10:47 PM

Band is awesome and has been from way back; totally bummed for them.

Posted by Gee | November 12, 2009 11:24 PM

one of the "no fun" parts of being on tour is having to hump your gear (the gear that you would really miss if it were stolen) up to the hotel room. If you are too lazy to do this, then you deserve to have it stolen.

Posted by Anonymous | November 13, 2009 8:01 AM

I couldn't think of a funny comment, but I think the picture of the band speaks for itself.

Posted by Anonymous | November 13, 2009 9:47 AM

these guys are the next wavves, blogs raving about them

Posted by Anonymous | November 13, 2009 9:50 AM

Whomever stole that bus should get the keys to the city.
