Baroness

Baroness teamed up with Neurot Carolinians US Christmas, and the ultra-jammy Earthless at Bowery Ballroom on 11/20 as part of an ongoing tour to promote Baroness's The Blue Record. Earthless and USX's last release hit the racks earlier this year and in the tail end of 2008: Live At Roadburn and Eat The Low Dogs respectively. I did not go to NIN or Morrissey at Bowery, but I can say that I have rarely seen Bowery Ballroom THAT packed. Earthless would later play The Charleston as part of a secret show presented by Chronic Youth.

Baroness's The Blue Record is piling on the accolades, with "best record of the year" being thrown it's way numerous times. I dig the record and highly recommend it, but not as nutso over it as (seemingly) the rest of the metal nation. Judge for yourself by streaming the record on their MySpace, or catching them on tour, and if you're lucky/from Japan, you can catch them with Isis!

no offense to baroness but...i remember seeing them in a basement back in like 05' or something and even then..BOOOORING...but srsly good for them that they are making money having fun doing what they love. that is cool as shit. i never thought they would be a band to make it this big. seriously, not my cuppa joe, but good job duders. who would have thought?

This was an awesome show; I was especially feelin' that encore of "Tower Falls". Baroness killed it. I must say though, I was confused by the strange group of drunken whack-offs dancing like it was a 311 concert. Go back to Long Island.

fucking great show once again. unfortunatly it was a shitty crowd as usual. bunch of obnoxious douchbags. typical at a metal show just even more douchey at this show.

Posted by Anonymous | November 24, 2009 1:57 PM

yea, weird crowd indeed. My brownie kicked in right as Earthless started. Couldn't have been better timing.

Nice guitars that Baroness dude is playing!

Earthless @ The Charleston was fucking sick

f-ing hipsters bought the place out... traveled over an hour to get to the show, only to get turned away at the door... since when does a baroness show at the bowery ballroom sell out? I saw at least 10 people who bought tickets in advance who had never even listened to baroness... how do i know, because they WERE TALKING ABOUT IT as they walked in! F.M.L.

Posted by alex | November 24, 2009 3:40 PM

i didn't buy a ticket in advance. i just got their a half-hour before they went on but the door guy make it seem like their were only a few tickets left. when the show started it was just about packed.

Seeing this show tomorrow in Chi. Earthless is the best band on the planet right now. Even without any chron.

Posted by Anonymous | November 24, 2009 5:09 PM

NY always has shitty crowds

always folding their arms and staring with that slight nod... acting like its "meh"

That is what you get for being stupid and not getting a ticket when you could have. If you live in town, whatever, no big deal but to travel over an hour WITHOUT a ticket is pretty friggin' stupid.

Posted by Anonymous | November 24, 2009 5:49 PM

it's gotta suck to be a headlining band after Earthless

Posted by Anonymous | November 24, 2009 6:29 PM

Those hipsters fucks are looking at US Christmas like they just stepped out of a flying saucer. HA!

Posted by Sinking South | November 24, 2009 7:00 PM

Why don't more people dress like porky pig at shows? Like long t shirt no pants style?

Posted by Anonymous | November 25, 2009 8:17 AM

fuck metal crowds

Posted by Anonymous | November 25, 2009 10:16 AM

Saw this show in Chicago. USX sucked. They looked like members of some brooding doomsday cult lead by the shirtless guy. They were old.
Earthless was really good. One long psychedelic jam that never got boring. Their drummer was excellent.
Baroness completely killed. They had no problem following Earthless. I haven't seen a band that super tight, having that much fun, blasting out such incredible psychedelic prog rock in a very long time. They were absolutely mind blowing. Do not miss this show!

Posted by Anonymous | November 27, 2009 12:53 PM

USX does suck. We just don't know it yet. See ya'll again next year!!!

Posted by Anonymous | December 1, 2009 1:59 PM

USX was the best nyc show in 2009. Since when does sweaty and dirty equal old? Made me wet in the pants.

Posted by Anonymous | December 5, 2009 1:19 PM

USX was fantastic. IMO the most original band on that bill. I left during Earthless.

Posted by vlad | December 10, 2009 10:57 AM

USX doesn't suck.
NY does
