jesus...BARONESS is number one?

FUNEBRARUM, who are on the bottom, should be in the top ten. i guess dirty death metal dont coutn for much these days.

Liturgy? Where they at

Posted by Anonymous | November 27, 2009 11:37 AM

Baroness, really? They don't do too much for me. "Wavering Radiant" is my favorite of the year.

Posted by Nate | November 27, 2009 11:54 AM

Decibel is always off target.
I think they go for YOUNGER readers
(i.e. Hot Topic / Ed Hardy generation)

Posted by TXn | November 27, 2009 12:04 PM

Goes Cube should be a bit higher and Mastodon lower.

At least Slayer & Napalm Death is up there
(they always should be)

Posted by TXn | November 27, 2009 12:08 PM

I think Eagle Twin should be on there, but it isn't. Damn shame.

Posted by Drew | November 27, 2009 12:09 PM

I dont really agree with the order but its a pretty decent list. Mastodon shouldnt even be on it though if you ask me, not that theyre bad, i just dont see them being the "best" at anything.

Posted by tengo | November 27, 2009 12:29 PM

Decibel WOULD make this list. lol this is terrible

Posted by Anonymous | November 27, 2009 1:04 PM

i agree that the order is all wrong. Converge definelty shouldnt be at number 2 considering that their equal vision releases are by far superior to their new one

Posted by Anonymous | November 27, 2009 1:18 PM

Yeah, this confirms that Decibel is a joke...

Posted by Nate | November 27, 2009 3:00 PM

goes cube should be in top 20 easy.

Posted by Anonymous | November 27, 2009 3:15 PM

converge and coleace are way to high.

Posted by Anonymous | November 27, 2009 3:18 PM

Where's Portal? Usually, Decibel jizz themselves over that band.

Posted by alex_pastepunk | November 27, 2009 3:48 PM

Converge>Baroness. Baroness isn't bad IMO just way overrated!

Posted by Anonymous | November 27, 2009 4:15 PM

Lists are stupid. Art is subjective. Converge is best and if you don't agree you are a fool. Only I have the right to dictate what is best.

Posted by Anonymous | November 27, 2009 4:46 PM

No Baroness rules but eagle twin should be on there and so should SkeletonWitch. what the FUCK~!

Posted by Anonymous | November 27, 2009 5:03 PM

Everyone is a critic when it comes to lists as everyone is a quarterback on Sunday.

Posted by Mister Buckets | November 27, 2009 5:30 PM

Krallice needs to be higher up, Portal needs to be on the list, and Baroness shouldn't be #1. I mean, it was a pretty good album, but not eh best of the year. I'm happy where Kylesa is.

Posted by Anonymous | November 28, 2009 1:20 PM

Everything on this list except Converge and Magrudergrind is either a retread that doesn't add anything (all the math-whatever albums), overrated as hell (Baroness, all the Pitchfork metal bands) or just sort of okay but in no way great.

This is probably representative of metal in 2009 though. Really bad.

Posted by Anonymous | November 28, 2009 3:26 PM

wow, metal really sucks in the late 2000s. so many of these albums are forgettable.

Posted by Anonymous | November 28, 2009 9:53 PM

Funebrarum should definitely be higher up on that list. The Sleep...was one of the best retro death albums of the last 15 years

Posted by Mark J. | November 29, 2009 3:42 PM

wheres between the buried and me's great misdirect? these metal lists are always crap.

Posted by Anonymous | November 29, 2009 4:12 PM

Funebrarum should be much much higher on this list.

MARDUK is my #1 of 2009.

Oh, come on, no Cannibal Corpse... And I doubt Behemoth couldn't find a place somewhere down there. Evangelion is not great, but it is still a high quality metal album.

Posted by PuerkitoBio | November 30, 2009 10:11 AM

Dark Funeral - Angelus Exuro Pro Eternus

Posted by Anonymous | November 30, 2009 11:14 AM

Funebrarum definitely kill these bands

Posted by Kullmeadra | November 30, 2009 11:02 PM

Funebrarum definitely kill these bands

Posted by Kullmeadra | November 30, 2009 11:02 PM

Can't believe they didn't put Crack the Skye in the top 10.

Posted by Anonymous | December 1, 2009 3:04 PM

This list is definitely out of order and missing some.

Posted by LA BRUJA | December 2, 2009 11:41 PM

Between the Buried and Me-The Great Misdirect.. hands down best metal album of 09.. But just my opinion.

Posted by Austin | December 5, 2009 10:09 AM

no between the buried and me great misdirect, what a joke this is shit

Posted by benji | December 5, 2009 8:03 PM

I'm Loving the kylesa album, definitely deserving of its spot.

Posted by Fisher | December 8, 2009 1:56 PM

Wow, this list sucks. They were plenty of albums that came out this year, but you only listed a few of them.

Posted by Anonymous | December 8, 2009 5:59 PM

"Animals as Leaders"

Posted by Connor | December 10, 2009 1:44 AM

Lady Gaga #1

Posted by Anonymous | December 12, 2009 4:54 PM

New Slayer is shit, like pretty much all their albums.

Posted by NecroabortioN | December 14, 2009 2:54 AM

blue was a great record but both "WAVERING RADIANT" by ISIS and "CRACK THE SKYE" by MASTODON killed it. Blue is really good but after spending a lot of time with it, I prefer Red over it, way heavier...

Posted by Roly | December 18, 2009 12:13 PM

Also, the new Converge wasn't that good. Sounded too much like usual Converge formula...

Posted by Roly | December 18, 2009 12:19 PM

Why is the new Slayer rated higher than crack the skye?

Posted by Anonymous | December 18, 2009 12:20 PM

Decibel has zero credibility as a metal, or even "extreme music" magazine.

I think that Shining album "Klagopsalmer" must be in the top ten, also the album "New constellation" by spanish band Nahemah.

Posted by Ewok | January 2, 2010 2:42 AM

Where is Eagle Twin? Eagle Twin had one of the best albums of the year - period (not just talking about metal). Who would have thought that two dudes out of SLC could make the best metal record of the year. I also don't get how you can put the Converge and Baroness records in front of Mastodon's Crack The Skye. It's almost as if you are letting some of these bands play with Mulligans or some shit. I also don't get that not one of these bands was included on the list: Black Cobra, Saviours, Iron Age, Skeletonwitch, Sunn 0))), or Children. Metal in 2009 ruled, but this list sucks!

Posted by Senor F | January 2, 2010 7:15 PM

Is this an effin joke? hahahaha

Posted by Dwreck | January 3, 2010 7:46 PM

I very much enjoyed "Blue Record" but the surreal drama of "Crack the Skye" takes the win for me. Honorable mentions to Isis, Giant Squid, Sepultura, and Zu if you can count that sort of thing.

You also know series creators Darin and Greg by their DJ duo name: Finger on the Pulse. The prolific twins seem to be everywhere - that includes their stint as contributors to this very blog. Appropriately enough, one of their posts here included nine remixes of Daptone songs (4 Sharon Jones tracks included), and you can still download every one of them.

You may have not intended to do so, but I think you've managed to express the state of mind that a lot of individuals are in. The sense of wanting to help, but not knowing how or where, is something a lot of us are going through.

Normally I wouldn’t comment on posts but I felt that I had to as your writing style is actually good. You have broken down a tough area so that it easy to understand.

Can someone explain to me why guitar players who only use two, or at most three strings, need seven string guitars? Seriously...

Posted by ritchiepage2001 | October 2, 2010 4:00 AM

This list recognizes many good bands, but the rationale for the rating is highly questionable. "Top Album Lists" can assist in the purchase of good music, but more often than not, readers will be disappointed in many purchases, as Metal is heavily subjective. I am a YOB fan, but I know their music is not for everyone. I think focusing on Profound Lore Records is best for my taste. Basically, "To Hell with Decibel." I agree with an above-review indicating that their focus must be up-and-coming metalheads, otherwise known as children.

hard was it to build your blog? Could someone like me, a newbie do it? I really wanna to write in my site something like this. Just for your info your home page seem broken when I visiting using FF.lways been freely available from bookshops and dealerships, as well as on the Internet, but the major problem has been that they tend to be pretty expensive.
