Deer Tick's John Joseph McCauley III as Johnny Rotten...
Deer Tick

At Brooklyn Bowl's Halloween party, Deer Tick ditched their other costume ideas for a night as the Sex Pistols. The night's semi-surprise opener was Dead Confederate, who covered Sonic Youth. Dangerous: All Metal Tribute to Michael Jackson played from that artist's body of work. All this while down the street at a different show, an (unhappy) Titus Andronicus sped through a set of Weezer covers (while the actual Weezer played Hammerstein Ballroom in Manhattan).

If those tribute acts weren't enough - you can see Rotten himself with PiL if you're in the UK this December; Sonic Youth will play three pre-Thanksgiving shows in NYC; and Michael Jackson's This Is It is in theaters now.

More pics, videos (including "Sid" singing "My Way") and all upcoming Deer Tick tour dates are posted below...

This was hands down the greatest Halloween event EVER.

what happened to the bass player (drummer's brother?)? don't see him in any of the pictures or video.

Posted by Anonymous | November 3, 2009 2:31 PM

??? The bass player is clearly there shirtless....

Posted by Anonymous | November 3, 2009 2:32 PM

SID VICIOUS stole the show!!

I guess you missed Phish playing all of Exile on Main St. with Sharon Jones.

Posted by Anonymous | November 3, 2009 2:54 PM

fuck that VICE was wayyy better. i know i was at both events simultaneously

Posted by Anonymous | November 3, 2009 3:03 PM

looks fun, those you tube videos sound hideous however

Posted by Anonymous | November 3, 2009 3:09 PM

"I guess you missed Phish playing all of Exile on Main St. with Sharon Jones"

I guess you're in Pi Kappa Faggot?

Posted by Anonymous | November 3, 2009 3:13 PM

this looks/sounds terrible, and nothing more than another opportunity for this band to pat itself on the back.

do us a favor and go back to being another "country" band that everyone will forget about in 2 years.

@2:32 -- the guy dressed as Sid Vicious and playing the bass is normally their (lead) guitar player. The blonde fellow who normally plays with them seems to have been absent.

Posted by Anonymous | November 3, 2009 3:25 PM

This show was amazing and Deer Tick is amazing for pulling it off.

Posted by Anonymous | November 3, 2009 4:11 PM

I was there and it didn't sound much better in person, in fact it was just like those youtube clips except ear piercing in volume. I was able to tolerate it due to the alcohol in me and the sheer amount of costumes to look at. The evil clown couple win. Deertick did a worthy sex pistols imitation in terms of drunken debauchery, but the vocals were horrendous.

""I guess you missed Phish playing all of Exile on Main St. with Sharon Jones"

I guess you're in Pi Kappa Faggot?"

Wow. Stay Classy, dude. Wow.

Posted by Anonymous | November 3, 2009 4:26 PM

in the pictures, the dude playing bass looks like their normal bass player. only with dark hair. it's the guy with the rat tail, right?

Posted by Anonymous | November 3, 2009 4:33 PM

remember when shellac did this with david yow and it was way better?

Posted by Anonymous | November 3, 2009 4:40 PM

Hey Anonymous 3:13PM - What is your favorite bar? When do you go there and what do you look like?

Posted by Anonymous | November 3, 2009 4:42 PM

Those videos are awful. I wonder if anyone in the room actually liked the Sex Pistols or if it was all just a ploy for everyone to get their mugs on Brooklynvegan.com

Posted by Russ | November 3, 2009 5:09 PM

drunken debauchery is great if it sounds good, this however was an epic FAIL

Posted by Anonymous | November 3, 2009 5:13 PM

normal blonde bassist = sid vicious. dyed his hair black.

Posted by Anonymous | November 3, 2009 6:02 PM

Sonic Youth POOP dress!!

Posted by ShitPooper | November 3, 2009 6:04 PM

Hey Anonymous 4:42 PM - My favorite bar is the parking lot of whatever venue Phish is playing. I'm gonna shove a vegan burrito up your ass next time I see you there.

Posted by Anonymous | November 3, 2009 6:11 PM

this show was a blast. bonus points to Deer Tick for awesome stage theatrics.

Posted by Anonymous | November 3, 2009 6:24 PM

you guys realize the sex pistols never really sounded that good live with sid, right?

Posted by Anonymous | November 3, 2009 11:16 PM

oh so the jokes on us right? how much was the cover? how much were they paid?

Posted by Anonymous | November 3, 2009 11:18 PM

4:42 - come to MSG on December 3.4, or 5. I will be there happy to chat. Meet me under the marquee at 6:30PM.

Posted by Anonymous | November 4, 2009 9:51 AM

9:51 AM - OK I'll be there, but I swear to God if you start pushing nitrous balloons, seitan wraps, or Dead bumper stickers on me to subsidize your concert ticket I will break your clavicle faster than you can say "Wilson".

Posted by Anonymous | November 4, 2009 11:28 AM

11:28 AM - What will you be wearing?

Posted by Anonymous | November 4, 2009 12:30 PM

he'll be the one with free patchouli

Posted by Anonymous | November 4, 2009 12:42 PM

my money's on the phish kid... them cats is ruthless

Posted by Anonymous | November 4, 2009 1:07 PM

I am just wondering what he will be wearing because I want to chat with him on why he would use the word "faggot". He just seems so tough to type that and I want to see if he really is.

Posted by Anonymous | November 4, 2009 1:17 PM

How would he know what he'll be wearing a month from now? That's a long time away to be committing to a particular outfit.

Posted by Anonymous | November 4, 2009 1:38 PM

might be one of the most worst words uttered in such ignorance and done so nonchalantly... dude def deserves a heady beatdown...

Posted by Anonymous | November 4, 2009 2:57 PM

i bet he'll have patches on whatever he's wearing

Posted by Anonymous | November 4, 2009 4:08 PM

the man who used the word, I guarantee, will not have patches on. I will not make predictions on his fashion sense. However, I do wish to speak with him at the MSG show on December 3, 4, and 5. Yup! I am there all three nights and I will be willing to meet anytime you wish. Come under the MSG marquee and scream that word instead hiding behind a computer screen.

For a man/woman/thing who uses that word so casually deserves to meet for a little bit of a chat. So when will it be, friend?

Posted by Anonymous | November 4, 2009 5:11 PM

do you wanna fuck him?

Posted by Anonymous | November 5, 2009 12:44 AM

No, I want break his face

Posted by Anonymous | November 5, 2009 11:32 AM

keep us updated... always nice to see justice served the good olde fashioned way

Posted by Anonymous | November 5, 2009 4:03 PM

I hope the thing shows their face under the maquee

Posted by Anonymous | November 5, 2009 9:30 PM

I'm just really glad someone on here likes Phish......Oh and to whoever said another "country band no one will remember in two years"....two years is up man and we remember.
