Julian Casablancas

Strokes frontman gone solo Julian Casablancas, not to be confused with Interpol frontman gone solo Julian Plenti, kicks off a five-show residency at Los Angeles' Downtown Palace Theatre tonight (11/6). He also has shows scheduled in San Francisco, Seattle and some other places, though still no NY...

These confirmed tour dates support Casablancas' solo debut, Phrazes for the Young, which [was] released November 3 on Cult Records/RCA (Rough Trade in the U.K.). As part of the release, Casablancas is offering a Luxury Edition Deluxe Set of the record. A full description and pre-order are now available at www.juliancasablancas.com.

Casablancas wrote and orchestrated every musical detail on the album from poly-rhythmic drum beats to harmonizing guitar solos. Highlights include the first single, "11th Dimension" (available now on iTunes)...

Julian performed on Conan O'Brien on October 27th. The video of that performance with the new album track listing, and all dates and stuff, below...

Phrazes for the Young Track listing:
1. "Out of the Blue"
2. "Left & Right in the Dark"
3. "11th Dimension"
4. "4 Chords of the Apocalypse"
5. "Ludlow St."
6. "River of Brakelights"
7. "Glass"
8. "Tourist"

is it true that Julien left the strokes because the guitarist and drummer used to never share their hummus, which caused tempers to flair within the band?

This is Dronedawg2099 back from the future with some info. When all the original members of The Strokes return to alcoholism in the year 2016, they release a series of albums over a 10 year span that rivals the Beatles catalogue. However in 2026, Julien leaves the group to become a Rock Astronaut. In space, along with his wife Okoy Ono and son Space Demon Casanegros, Julien 2.0 transmits numerous mp8s back to earth via state-of-the-art, Flight of the Choncords-inspired Nipple Antennae. President Wavves dismisses the nipple jamz, referring to them as "Strokes of Lamesness"

if you don't think is this it is a good record, then you don't like rock 'n' roll.

Posted by Anonymous | November 7, 2009 4:19 PM

If you think this is it is rock 'n' roll, then... etc.

Posted by Anonymous | November 7, 2009 5:00 PM

if you think this douche has talent then you don't know rock'n'roll.

I don't get his attacks on NY. All of a sudden JC hates the city he grew up in and the city where he first found fame.

And he was saying he would never move to Brooklyn. What the hell is wrong with Brooklyn??

I think Julian has moved permanently to LA and so have Valensi and Moretti but at least Moretti never dumps on NY. Also, Moretti's girl Binki Shapiro is a little doll...

You guys are misled. Julian Casablancas is extraordinarily talented. If you guys think listening to shit like Deerhunter or !!! is "ROCK N ROLL" then you are sadly mistaken. This is RNR, this is rock, this sounds like nothing else put out today which is refreshing in itself. To call this guy a cliche is like dismissing texts in a library. The cliches of today were based around this guy, were based around his band The Strokes. The Strokes copied bands from the 70s, like so many other people do, and in turn people copied the Strokes. If it were not for the Strokes we would not have bands like the Arctic Monkeys or Bloc Party. I know you American Apparellers love that shit. So sit back, open up a bottle of Michelob Ultra, and enjoy Julian's solo CD. Don't forget your 3d glasses. ;)
