"Free at Last" (Nov 13, 2009) (King Kahn w/ Kristin Klein) (via Krisin Klein's phone)
Krisin Klein

Trooper John Hawkins of the Kentucky State Police says the duo, along with tour manager Kristin Klein, were stopped sometime yesterday afternoon in Oak Grove, Kentucky.

The band was stopped in the one just north of the Tennessee state line, about an hour northwest of Nashville on I-24.

Klein [was] in custody in the Christian County Kentucky jail, charged with driving with a suspended license and possession of a controlled substance. Her bond is $3,000. A sergeant at the jail had no information as to what Klein was allegedly caught with.

Neither the Christian County Jail nor the Kentucky State Police had any records of Arish Khan or Mark Sultan being arrested or charged with a crime. [Riverfront Times]

King Khan & BBQ, who were confirmed out of jail over six hours earlier, will not be performing in Kansas tonight (11/13), but Those Darlins will be. More dates and info on the arrest, HERE.

Posted by Anonymous | November 13, 2009 8:01 PM

"Christian County Kentucky jail"? Sounds like the last place on earth I'd ever want to end up.

Posted by Anonymous | November 13, 2009 8:03 PM

they are stupid... bands find ways to hide drugs every day... rule #1: don't leave the contraband out where it can be found... if you are gonna break the law, at least be smart about it.

Posted by anon | November 13, 2009 8:16 PM

the tour manager is the one who's supposed to have a valid license and not be doing drugs.

Posted by Anonymous | November 13, 2009 8:34 PM

so. anyone know who is playing under Jefferson Township at Mercury Lounge on the 25th?

Posted by Anonymous | November 13, 2009 10:34 PM

they're giving her a bunch of hassle over legal prescription drugs.

you can't bust us, because you don't know what you found

Posted by anonymous2 | November 14, 2009 12:54 AM

Kristin rules, this is stupid.

Posted by Anonymous | November 14, 2009 1:30 AM

her parents must be hella proud of her.

Posted by Anonymous | November 14, 2009 1:33 AM

Posted by Anonymous | November 14, 2009 4:46 AM

Yep another vote for Kristin. All the way rad.

Posted by the great satan | November 14, 2009 6:44 AM

I'd hit it.

Posted by Anonymous | November 14, 2009 7:15 AM

Don't care if she is "rad."

Rule #1 for Tour Manage: hide the drugs, esp when driving through the middle south.

Rule #2 for Tour Manager: make sure you have a valid driver's license.

Rule #3 for Tour Manager: this job isn't rocket science, but be sure to live by rules 1 and 2.

Posted by Anonymous | November 14, 2009 9:24 AM

Whatever happened to the good old hole in the floorboard for jettisoning the drugs when you get pulled over?

Posted by Anonymous | November 14, 2009 10:14 AM

busted!

Posted by Anonymous | November 14, 2009 11:41 AM

"her parents must be hella proud of her." - 1:30am

lol YOU obviously care what YOUR parents think.

don't put your shit on other people dummy. also stop using the word hella. none of you dummys know anything about what a tour manager is or isn't supposed to do. you're too busy refreshing this shit.

tevs.

she's not nice to me.

Posted by D.D.D.Dave | November 14, 2009 12:10 PM

Tevs,

Please tell us what a tour manager IS supposed to do, beyond get musicians from A to B and keep them on time and out of trouble.

Posted by Anonymous | November 14, 2009 1:24 PM

they didn't get busted for drugs though, so 90% of these comments are full of shit

Posted by Anonymous | November 14, 2009 1:53 PM

"they didn't get busted for drugs though, so 90% of these comments are full of shit"

Yes they did, but we appreciate that you want to cover it up. That said, nobody cares if they did. Mushrooms are not a big deal. Neither is anything else they may have had on them. It sucks. We're on your side. No need to lie.

Posted by Anonymous | November 14, 2009 2:03 PM

cover up, hardly. spreading rumors about illegal drug charges is serious business however, and those accusations shouldn't be made or implied without real facts.

Posted by Anonymous | November 14, 2009 3:11 PM

I second 3:11. That girl is a hanger on and an overly entitled cunt. They should have kept her in Kentucky.

"charged with driving with a suspended license and possession of a controlled substance"

Posted by Anonymous | November 14, 2009 3:54 PM

"Klein [was] in custody in the Christian County Kentucky jail, charged with driving with a suspended license and possession of a controlled substance."

Um, 2:44, READ THE POST, you moron.

Posted by Anonymous | November 14, 2009 3:56 PM

It just goes to show, you can't be too careful.

Posted by m | November 14, 2009 3:56 PM

Couldn't have happened to a meaner, more vindictive bitch.

Posted by zip | November 14, 2009 4:39 PM

cops don't always give out correct info, you lemmings.

also, charges don't equal guilt

Posted by Anonymous | November 14, 2009 4:56 PM

these comments prove, it's tough to be female and do your job effectively without being called a bitch.

a tour manager is a hired hand, hired not just to get the band from place to place on time, but also to demand all the things the band doesn't want to sully their "nice guy" laid back image by demanding for themselves.

If you think a tour manager is a bitch or unreasonable, your real complaint is actually with the band that is paying that person to do their bidding. Kristin Klein is a sweetheart, but she is also good at her job. If she were a man, people would respect her for being tough.

Posted by Anonymous | November 14, 2009 5:00 PM

5:00, I agree. The responsibilities of a tour manager include, getting the band from point A to point B, keeping them out of trouble, arriving on time, AND, making sure the band gets fed and paid. Sound glorious . . . all in the attempt to call the band your close "friends" and to give you the vicarious thrill that you are instrumental to the band's success and scene.

Posted by Anonymous | November 14, 2009 5:30 PM

or, 5:30, maybe one does these things because it is a JOB and that's how you pay your bills.

Posted by Anonymous | November 14, 2009 5:36 PM

From the look of the pics above, seems to be more than just a job. Eating up that attention. Doesn't look like she is lugging shit in and out of venue.

Good times.

Posted by Anonymous | November 14, 2009 5:43 PM

it's a better job than waitressing or bartending, but that doesn't mean it isn't a job, with lots of serious aspects and downsides.

Posted by Anonymous | November 14, 2009 5:52 PM

Let me get this straight, now waitressing, bartending and tour managing are the only employment options for a female hipster? Seems like we are setting feminism back about 200 years in this thread.

Posted by Anonymous | November 14, 2009 6:02 PM

there's no way to reason with Brooklyn Vegan commenters. They want to be on all sides of every argument, whichever one enables something snarky to say.

The brilliant and enlightening "tour managers are groupies" / "tour managing is insulting to feminism" thread is a perfect example. These people have no idea what they're talking about, but damn it they're gonna say something, and they're gonna sound pissed off!

In reality though, none of the commenters have anything to contribute, just hoping to land a zinger and get noticed. Please, for your sake, fin a better creative outlet. This is just sad to watch.

Posted by Anonymous | November 14, 2009 6:21 PM

i would toss her salad!

Posted by Anonymous | November 14, 2009 6:52 PM

She's not stupid. Ever think that if she were caught in possession of something, she could've been holding or covering for the band? I can't tell you how many times I've heard of this situation. The band being Canadian could've only complicated things further, too. TM's jobs aren't rocket science, no, but it calls for common sense, which this girl has plenty of. As far as the suspended license goes, you, my license was suspended because of a speeding ticket I got on campus 3 years prior and forgot to pay. You can have a suspended license and not realize it. Some of you might, actually.

In any case, they may've not even been found with drugs -- you don't know. I don't know. THE INTERNET, dummies.

Posted by Anonymous | November 14, 2009 7:28 PM

whether they were caught with "drugs" or not, it is well documented that they do them. That doesn't bother me. I did them with them. Just sayin.

Posted by Anonymous | November 14, 2009 7:30 PM

"charges don't equal guilt"

exactly, so chill out. Nobody said she was convicted or guilty (except your/her conscience)

Posted by Anonymous | November 14, 2009 7:41 PM

"charges don't equal guilt"

Wow, such naïveté.

Posted by Anonymous | November 14, 2009 7:55 PM

oh c'mon 7:41. there are several comments here pointing fingers at this woman's supposed failure at her job because she "got caught with drugs."

zero proof any of that is actually the case.

Posted by Anonymous | November 14, 2009 7:58 PM

niave, nope.

just calling out holier-than-thou assholes and hypocrites who want to attack these people for their bad luck of being caught by country cops in Kentucky.

Posted by Anonymous | November 14, 2009 8:02 PM

she was caught with drugs, how despicable, hang them all!

Posted by Anonymous | November 14, 2009 8:23 PM

The band being Canadian? Did I miss something?

Posted by Anonymous | November 14, 2009 8:56 PM

mehshrooms

Posted by Anonymous | November 14, 2009 9:18 PM

A lot of DUMB people call themselves "tour managers". Anybody can drive, make phone calls, follow a contract, sit on their ass and take a cut of the bands pay.
She's a glorified babysitter.
You can judge a tour manager by the quality and quantity of the band's merchandise, it's the one way a manager can bring something to the table and add to the overall tour earnings.
I've seen them live several times, they could be doing so much better. I know the band calls the shots, but a good tour manager makes sure the merch is under control despite how STUPID and CHEAP the band is.
I know for a fact she gets paid peanuts.

Posted by Ian Montone | November 14, 2009 10:26 PM

ian montrone, everybody. grade A know-it-all idiot.

for a fact, ladies and gentlemen! the man has got some real serious opinions about tour managing, I tell ya.

One of the dumbest most naive comments I've seen. Congratulations!

Posted by Anonymous | November 15, 2009 10:06 AM

11:30pm

lol!

Posted by Anonymous | November 15, 2009 4:42 PM

i bet she takes charges for them. im pretty sure they are all good friends outside of the band.

Posted by Anonymous | November 15, 2009 6:50 PM

if that is really ian montone, he knows more about tour managing than some random anon commenter.

Posted by Anonymous | November 15, 2009 7:20 PM

anon 7:20- I don't think Ian Montone would chime in here to make a comment like that. More likely, it is someone very inappropriately impersonating him. However, if it is, by chance, him making such a foolish comment, he should be fired and never work as a TM again.

"Oak Grove police arrested a nationally-known rock musician Thursday afternoon for allegedly possessing hallucinogenic mushrooms.

His band, King Khan and BBQ Show, was on its way to a show in St. Louis, but then became stuck in Christian County without transportation, booking agent Sam Hunt told the New Era in a phone interview Friday.

Police arrested Arish Khan, better known as King Khan, or Blacksnake, and his tour manager, Kristin Klein, at 2:20 p.m. Thursday. They charged both suspects with possession of a controlled substance, and Klein on a charge of driving with a suspended license, a spokesman at the Christian County Jail said."

"The band being Canadian? Did I miss something?"

Yeah. They're Canadian. She's not. They could've been sent back for drug charges, whereas, as we've seen it play out, she owned up to them (even if they weren't hers), and she's back out there on the road.

Ian Montone knows shit about tour managing? Do you know how many bands there are out? A lot. That means there are also a lot of dummies out there with their entitled opinions because they're "tour managers". I've tour managed numerous bands. Most bigger than KK + BBQ. ALL IT REQUIRES IS COMMON SENSE. Wake the band up, call the venue, get the band to the venue on time, get the gear on the stage, make sure merch is handled, get money from promoter, get gear & band back to hotel/bus, be in contact with manager and label concerning band issues, DO IT ALL AGAIN THE NEXT DAY.

WOW. IAN MONTONE KNOWS SOMETHING.

You're dumb.

Kristin's not. That's what's so funny.
