Dio @ the Theater @ MSG in August (more by Tim Griffin)
Dio

Wendy Dio, the wife and manager of legendary heavy metal vocalist Ronnie James Dio (DIO, HEAVEN & HELL, BLACK SABBATH, RAINBOW), has released the following statement to BLABBERMOUTH.NET:

"Ronnie has been diagnosed with the early stages of stomach cancer. We are starting treatment immediately at the Mayo Clinic. After he kills this dragon, Ronnie will be back on stage, where he belongs, doing what he loves best, performing for his fans.

"Long live rock and roll, long live Ronnie James Dio.

"Thanks to all the friends and fans from all over the world that have sent well wishes. This has really helped to keep his spirit up."

Get well soon Dio!

My dad and I both wish Dio a speedy recovery.

The "anonymous" person making light of this news to bash Obama is a sub-human piece of trash. BVG, please consider removing that offensive post. I would like to wish the legendary Ronnie James Dio a very speedy recovery from this terrifying illness.

I wonder if Mr Dio is still an athiest now that he's looking eternity square in the face? If I were RJD, I imagine my priorites would have changed very quickly in the last few weeks.

Posted by WillyMcCabe | November 27, 2009 6:16 PM

^^^ Thats an interesting point. And Dio does suck live. He can pull off an amateur vocal on tape, but is totally flat live.

Posted by Susan | November 27, 2009 6:22 PM

Susan,
You are flat out wrong. I've seen Ronnie perform 3 times (once with Sabbath, twice solo) and he has an amazingly powerful voice. He is no amateur.

"I wonder if Mr Dio is still an athiest now that he's looking eternity square in the face? If I were RJD, I imagine my priorites would have changed very quickly in the last few weeks."

Bullshit comment. Really, praying to an entity that doesn't exist is going to help you exactly how? The only thing that is going to help you is the medicial profession and/or yourself. I had a similar experience to Mr. Dio's one time and was lucky enough to survive, and the idea of praying to some fairy tale "God" for help never crossed my mind once. We're all going to die, and "God" isn't going to ultimately save you from death. You're food for the worms, like all of us. Out of instinct you try to fight to stay alive and hope the often inept medical system can be of some help. At least Dio will have the money for the best care possible. I sincerely hope he makes it and I get to hear him sing again: he was great with Heaven & Hell at the WaMu. But "God" isn't going to have any say in what happens.

Posted by Anonymous | November 27, 2009 11:52 PM

I bet he humps good.

Posted by Anonymous | November 28, 2009 2:24 AM

Posted by Anonymous | November 29, 2009 1:28 AM

WillyMcCabe : Proselytize somewhere else. Go fuck yourself.

Susan- Obviously you haven't spent any time seeing him live or were too busy texting to pay attention. His voice is always amazing live.

To the clowns who are saying that Dio is not a good singer. R u kidding me? What the hell planet r u from!! He is one of the greatest hard rock singers of all time! You can dislike the music or have a hard-on for Ozzy but please there is no denying his awesome vocal prowess!! ignorant fools

Posted by Nick Gravelding | December 3, 2009 9:31 AM

Seriously? I'm not a fan, but to actually be a douche and wish harm on someone. Karma is a BITCH!

It's easy to say god doesn't exist when your alive and feeling good.

Everyone believes when death is near. DIO has spent his entire life mocking the almighty now look.

Payback is a bitch.

I was lucky enough to meet him once at The Cajun House in Scottsdale, AZ. He is nothing short of a gentleman, a very sweet, sweet man. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers Ronnie, and I'm sorry you are sick right now. Get well soon!

Shodan, why was I prostylizing? I simply made a comment. Sounds like you have some serious anger issues to deal with. Or is your opinion the only one that counts?

Posted by Willy032 | January 18, 2010 12:53 PM

Get better Dio. We need rockers like you around to keep Rock and Roll alive.

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2010 9:48 PM

Susan is full of shit. Dio rules live. Take a listen to Rainbow's Live in Germany or On Stage. One of the few metal bands to improve on studio recordings.

Get well soon, Ronnie!

Posted by Soakaways | May 28, 2010 4:02 PM

Sad that he didn't make it longer than he did. He had one of the best voices in heavy metal.
