Screaming Females @ The Yard - 8/29/09 (more by Sarahana)
Screaming Females

Screaming Females just played a show with the So So Glos on Wednesday night at The Bell House. Did you go? How was it? Earlier in the month the NJ-based band's drummer Jarrett Dougherty posted a list of his favorite albums of 2009. Check out what he wrote, below...

Best of 09? Hey,

So I was trying to come up with a top 10 albums of 2009 list but I could only think of 7. What am I forgetting? Help me out!

Edit: The list grows longer! Your suggestions are helping!

So far...
1. JEFF the brotherhood - Heavy Days
2. Cheeky - What the Heck
3. Stupid Party - s/t
4. Songs for Moms - I Used to Believe in the West
5. Bad Blood - Tongue Twisting Tunes for Tiny Tots
6. Mattress - Babystar Gallactica EP
7. Teenage Cool Kids - Foreign Lands
8. Delay - Plain Language
9. Double Dagger - More

-jd

Screaming Females are going on tour with the Arctic Monkeys in December. They also have a show coming up in Jersey with the Bouncing Souls.

you forgot Lady Gaga

females were a great performance. with the pixies and whatever else that night, bell house was kind of dead, though. possibly even less people than the auto parts show. hipsters are kind of lazy when it comes to leaving williamsburg/bushwick, i guess.

Posted by Anonymous | November 27, 2009 11:58 AM

Didn't seem dead to me, just maybe 200 people in a space that holds 400.

So cool...naming off bands that NO ONE knows.
BV, why even print this?

BTW Screaming Females suck
(not the band :) -or do they?)

Posted by TXn | November 27, 2009 12:02 PM

i've never really seen the bell house packed

Posted by Anonymous | November 27, 2009 12:05 PM

TXn = moron

Posted by Anonymous | November 27, 2009 12:09 PM

Thanks ANON 12:09 & 12:19 -
On BV when someone writes this about you "TXn = moron" it means you have a valid point.
Thanks again!

Oh, and 12:19 - "savvy". Ha!
These kids with their internet think they are such advanced researchers of music. i bet you don't know the meaning of the word unless you 'Google' it.

Solid list. The Mattress' EP is all killer no filler. Songs for Moms is the most ironic shit ever created.

Posted by Anonymous | November 27, 2009 1:13 PM

Cheeky is (soon to be was) great. They have a free EP on Quote Unquote Records. Check it out.

cheeky's what the heck is fucking incredible. check it out if you haven't already! screamales played a great set with tons of new songs and non album tracks. they also held up really well considering all the technical problems and the fact that someone knocked out marissa's chord during the set. bad blood were great also. i literally rolled my eyes 30 times during the so so glos, though. anyone see my friend get knocked out cold but that douchebag stage diver? no idea what he was thinking, no one was standing behind us. great show though!

Posted by kwilz | November 27, 2009 2:05 PM

those are just his friends' bands!

Posted by Anonymous | November 27, 2009 2:40 PM

so what? they should be friends with kickass bands like that

Posted by Anonymous | November 27, 2009 2:54 PM

so are we supposed to care what this fucking douche's favorite bands of the year are? fuck do i care. post something better please.

"literally rolled my eyes 30 times during the so so glos, though. anyone see my friend get knocked out cold but that douchebag stage diver? no idea what he was thinking, no one was standing behind us. great show though!"

i don't see why you should blame the band for a fan acting like a douchebag but then again you and your friends were like ten so that's cool. bad blood suuuckkked.

Posted by Anonymous | November 27, 2009 3:16 PM

......? what are you even talking about? i rolled my eyes at so so glos because they were a bunch of cocky assholes. spending 15 mins between songs to ask the fans "hOOOW ArE YooooUUU DoiiiiNGGG toniiiiiight!?" is absurd and annyoing. if you're into that fine, whatever, but i didn't like them. and i was talking about the diver during screamales set. why would blame a band for their audience?

sorry so so glos, but i grew out of my "generic pop punk phase" a la brand new circa 2003. time for a new gimmick

Posted by Anonymous | November 28, 2009 2:13 AM

"generic pop punk phase" - I think you pegged it ANON 2:13... I like everyone getting exposure, but people getting Lou Reed cult like status in a year!!!

WTF is going on these days?
(I know I will get OLD MAN comments - just remember kids... I was buying CASSETTES (NOT for novelty DProjectors) when your diapers were being changed!)

Posted by TXn | November 28, 2009 10:33 AM

yeah? well we were too busy MAKING HISTORY to notice you

Posted by Anonymous | November 28, 2009 12:54 PM

i too grew out of my generic pop punk phase, having said that;

the so so glos are, straight up, the best poppy punk rock i have heard in a while. as fun as it used to be, but smarter.

If you don't like the screaming females don't read the post and then spend even more time commenting on it. Also the Mattress ep = awesome.

Posted by Cris | November 28, 2009 3:51 PM

RIP Cheeky, did anyone see them at death by audio last night?

Posted by Anonymous | November 29, 2009 10:35 AM

Posted by Anonymous | November 29, 2009 10:40 AM

The Cheekend will never end.

Posted by Anonymous | November 29, 2009 12:56 PM

That Double Dagger album is sick.

Posted by Anonymous | November 29, 2009 1:05 PM

Stupid Party = Rock

Double Dagger = Rock

JEFF = Rock

Bad Blood = Rock

Cheeky = Rock

I think you see where I'm going with this. It doesn't matter if Screaming Females are friends with most of those bands or not, the bottom line is that most of them are pretty kick ass. Those are some killer albums.

Screaming Females guitarist will tear your fucking heads off
