Agnostic Front at the last CBGB Matinee (more here)
Ag Front

Agnostic Front's seminal debut, Victim in Pain, arguably remains the ultimate document of the New York hardcore scene - an early-'80s movement which coincided with some of the most dire social and political crises ever to afflict the metropolis. By taking the rudiments of punk, then injecting enough energy and rage to elevate them to an entirely new level of primal aggression, Agnostic Front's piece de resistance ultimately succeeds because it transcends musical art form to create protest rock not necessarily at its most lucid, but definitely at its most visceral. With 11 tracks clocking in at a mere 15 and a half minutes, ..."Blind Justice," "United and Strong," "Power," "Society Sucker," and "Your Mistake" were literal calls to arms for New York City's disenfranchised youth, who faithfully trekked down on a weekly basis to CBGB's legendary Sunday hardcore matinees. Listen closely to these cuts and you can almost hear the hallowed Bowery venue's dilapidated walls sweat, blister, and peel from the onslaught... -[Allmusic]
I will wholeheartedly admit to a soft spot for Agnostic Front, and it's pretty exciting that the 25th anniversary of Victim In Pain will be the basis for a show at the Bell House on Friday, February 26th, 2010 featuring all guilty parties from that album performing at the show.
Agnostic Front will have their original 1984 lineup in tow - Roger Miret, Vinny Stigma, Rob Kabula, and Dave Jones. "We haven't played together since '84, this is the CLASSIC lineup together again doing vintage AF songs and some classics. We couldn't be more excited to do this!" said vocalist Roger Miret.
Tickets go on sale on today (Wednesday, 12/16) at noon are on sale.

The band has also lined up a US tour in January, as well as European dates in April that lead up to their appearance at Hellfest 2010 with the reunited Godflesh.

Victim in Pain was recently reissued (on CD and vinyl) by Bridge Nine, as was the United Blood EP.

In other old school hardcore news, the Cro-Mags show at Santos on 12/29 has added Death Threat and Last Call Brawl as support, with another act TBD. Tickets are still available.

ha yeah kids are going to be diving off the bar for this show. if they just play VIP and UB records their set will be like 20 minutes. they should put killing time and sheer terror on this one. when is the sheer terror reunion?

This is a classic Gen1 hardcore punk albums - probably top 10.

Cup of Joe! I saw the funniest bill in Albany back in 88-89 - Warzone and Sheer Terror. Like oil and water. Skins and greasers.

Posted by Anonymous | December 16, 2009 12:06 PM

Greasers!? NYC shows were skins galore, and your occasional latin gang contingent. Would of preferred Greasers.

Ahh, miss NYCHC days.

updated with confirmation of original lineup reuniting for the Brooklyn show.

sheer terror were fantastic...there's very few bands that i can stomach from back then without getting awkward chills down my arm.

sheer terror, warzone, altercation, bad brains (duh)...thats about it.

what's the over/under percentage that Bell House will be closed for rennovations after this show?

I'm saying 75 %

Posted by Anonymous | December 16, 2009 7:58 PM

@ Jim Hildreth - Are you the same Jim who booked punk shows up at UNH in the mid 80's and shot video of it too?

Posted by Anonymous | January 2, 2010 7:42 PM

@7:58

perhaps Skip dying in 2002 would prevent that?

Saw them in Houston on Jan 24. First time! Loved the Victim In Pain songs, but they aren't very long, so after the first 15 minutes I didn't know any more songs. Still had a great time.
