Gwar @ Irving Plaza in NYC Sunday

At most metal shows, the dress code is "none more black." At GWAR shows, however, if your shirt isn't covered in blue blood and green bile, you weren't really at a GWAR show, were you? The group of intergalactic badasses, led by vocalist and Fox News' Red Eye's interplanetary correspondent Oderus Urungus, always bring a hellishly good show with them, where no human goes unsacrificed. GWAR brought their freak show to the Gothic Theatre on November 11 in support of Lust in Space, and global destruction almost materialized. The spaceship has left for parts unknown. Gwar finished up a month long tour (which included Gothic Theatre in Denver, discussed above) with a string of east coast dates which concluded at Irving Plaza in NYC on Sunday (12/13), with a show in Philly at the Electric Factory one night before that. Pictures from both shows adorn this post. Support for the dates included Job For A Cowboy and The Red Chord, who recently dropped their highly celebrated LP Fed Through the Teeth Machine....Most GWAR concerts and albums are based around a story, and this time, GWAR are forced to once again combat Cardinal Syn, from the Ragnarock album. Cardinal Syn is an evil Catholic robot on a quest to homogenize the universe and turn GWAR into a Christian rock band. Complicating matters was that Oderus Urungus has lost the Cuttlefish of Cthulhu, either because he left it in the ass of a transvestite or a clerical error in Tulsa, Oklahoma (crack affects your memory, you know.) As a result, he was forced to use a human penis to perform such daily tasks as raping babies and forcing members of the audience to give fellate him. In the end, however, Cardinal Syn went down and GWAR scored themselves a boulder of crack. Overall, the story wasn't as tight-knit as the stories from the Beyond Hell and election tours ("Hilary Clinton" getting her tits ripped off is still one of my favorite GWAR moments), but it was still entertaining to see a Catholic robot get his ass kicked. -[Crustcake]
Tons more pics and some video from the band when they hit Fuel TV are below...

Was at the Irving show. I'm not sure what was funnier....the show, of the fans who actually knew every word to every song.
Fun times though, as good as any stand up comedy act you'll see for a fraction of the price

hanging out at after a Rigor Mortis show one time I actually told Casey that Gwar sucked to his face because I didn't realize he was in the band.

Job for a Cowboy is complete garbage.
You really have to give it up to GWAR, still chugging along and putting on awesome shows after all these years.

No photos of GWAR spurting out multicolored glop into the crowd?! come on!!!

i've always thought of going to a gwar show but wondered is it really that much fun to have colored water spurted on you for an hour?
Do you get soaked?
Doesn't it get cold?
Aren't people slipping in the mosh pit?
What can i say, gwar leaves me asking so many questions...

the photo pit collapsed and the photographers had to leave before the crowd got sprayed on with blood.

Seen GWAR a bunch, know most of the words to most of the songs, don't care how lame anyone thinks that is!
Its possible to get soaked, but generally its your upper body that gets wet because of the cramped confines of the crowd.
Because of the crowd, you do not get cold, this should not be a surprise its a metal show.
Irving, and every other venue I have seen GWAR in, including The Chance, Roseland, and Starland, put carpets down in the front of the pit, where 80% of the liquid goes, to soak it up.

Not a big GWAR guy for owning their tunes, but they are fun live. Luckily I'm old enough I got to see 'em on the first tour after Hell-O came out...with Sick Of It All no less!
I try not to rip on shit just to be a dick, but The Red Chord is lame. Total sweater metal.
