Big Pink

"We missed the [Big Pink]'s New York debut last June but made sure to be front and center for the first of the two New York stops on their current North American tour at Bowery Ballroom last Thursday night. California's Crystal Antlers added an extra psychedelic garage twist to the night, with their supporting set at 10PM.

Shortly after Crystal Antlers left the stage, preparations were made with stage hands carrying fog juice, strobe lights and spraying aerosol cans before the lights dimmed at 11PM. The 9-song set kicked off amid a foggy strobe-light attack with Too Young to Love and hit it's high notes mid-set with Velvet and Crystal Visions before closing with an epic drum smashing sing-a-long for Dominos.

Unlike what was going on in the audience, The Big Pink's live set was a refreshing and straight-forward performance with very little banter. We left Bowery Ballroom very pleased with the live translation and stage presence from the duo and their supporting band members. The set could have been a bit longer with possibly a few covers but maybe next time!" [Tastes Like Caramel]

That review comes from Thursday's Bowery Ballroom show. The tour ended at Music Hall of Williamsburg one night later. The pictures in this post are from that last one (though we missed Von Haze who opened both nights). How were the shows?

Crystal Antlers are still on the road, and it was just announced that the Big Pink will be back to tour North America again in March with support from A Place to Bury Strangers. That new tour hits Webster Hall on March 30th (tickets on sale soon) and the smaller Maxwell's in Hoboken two days before that (on March 28th) (tickets on sale Friday). All dates and more pictures from the Brooklyn show, below...

show sucked. nice strobe lights, ass. was good research so I don't have to listen of the burgeoning Big Pink hype that will plague the blogs for the next year. maybe they will tour with the xx and Wavves

loved the photog in the front row trying to bob his head to win the fan-appreciation he needed after crashing (w backpack) all the way in front of people who seemed to be into the latest (over hyped) band from the UK.

agree that show was less than good.

coachella here they come

Loved this show. Tight set, great drums, big, clear sound. As far as the "possibly a few covers" comment, they did play Otis Redding's "These Arms of Mine" so how many covers you want?

2.50, did it possibly dawn on you that the band likes their strobe lights, ass? don't go to shows of bands you don't like, rectum.

Posted by Anonymous | December 7, 2009 4:43 PM

The strobes could have been worse (think Glasvegas)

Posted by Anonymous | December 7, 2009 4:56 PM

the bandwidth limit has been exceeded.

how were the crystal antlers?

Posted by mark | December 7, 2009 5:52 PM

I thought Big Pink sucked also, very tiresome.
Really liked Crystal Antlers, been a bit wary of them but they played a great set. Fun.

Not as bad as Glasvegas......but nearly

APTBS is one of the best live bands around.

Posted by Anonymous | December 7, 2009 6:39 PM

the big pink had better step up their live game if they intend to tour with APTBS, that's for sure.

Posted by Anonymous | December 7, 2009 6:49 PM

Who headlines these shows?

Posted by Anonymous | December 7, 2009 6:53 PM

the crystal antlers were awesome. they buzzed the crowd with their solid riffs and fuzz. i would recommend them to anyone who likes heavy fuzz and psychedelics.

It baffles me how these hyped british bands can just come over here and play Webster Hall after playing two shows... AND with APTBS supporting. Uh?

Oh well, may go. Maybe APTBS will have a tour of their own.

crystal antlers are a good band. seen them open for the walkmen. solid...
ps for any of u asses complaining about the strobes. dont ever see the warlocks. u never get a clear look at them b/c of the strobes. but the that band is so f'ing great that it doesn't matter. I think that is precisely the point.
