the xx

"In a recent interview, the xx talked about expanding their sound. So much has happened to them in the short space of time since they recorded this debut that their next record can't fail to be infused with this experience. All the more reason to cherish this album, then. For this was more than just the sound of 2009, it was a distinctive musical statement of the like we may never get to hear again." [The Guardian]
The xx finished a tour with Friendly Fires at Webster Hall in NYC on December 5th. We already did a post about that show, but then the very talented Paul Birman mentioned he had a set of pictures that could use a home. Those are the pictures in this post.

Five days after the NYC show, The xx made their network television debut on the Carson Daly show. Video from appearance is below.

And I'm not sure what brings them back, but The xx must be hanging around a bit because they have another NYC appearance scheduled for January 2nd.. It's not a live show though, they are just DJing at Le Poisson Rouge at a late night party with VHS or Beta Dee Jays and Finger On The Pulse. Tickets are $5+fee if you buy them in advance or slightly more if you wait for the door.

Tickets are also still on sale for the show that The xx is playing with Hot Chip at Terminal 5 on April 22nd.

All dates with the rest of those pictures and the video below...

I play in a shitty band, so I'm in no position to judge other shitty bands that are more successful than mine.

Posted by FY | December 22, 2009 3:56 PM

who? they'll let anyone play Carson Daly these days. It is a very sad time for music.

Posted by Anonymous | December 22, 2009 4:05 PM

I am not sure they are the best band, but there music achieves an intimate, personal quality that I am sure your favorite band is incapable of...

@4:05 I guess it is perspective, seriously, do you want everything to regress to 90's rock? that would be sad. what are you looking for? there is a ton of great music out there these days.

Posted by Anonymous | December 22, 2009 4:38 PM

The XX > 90's music

Lets hear something new! no more 90's crap like The XX!

Posted by Juan | December 22, 2009 4:43 PM

Glasvegas > The XX

Hey girl on the subway...you saving that seat for me...baby?

Posted by Anonymous | December 22, 2009 4:45 PM

^^^ Both bands sound like they are from the 90s and both suck. These are bands that would have been cool if they came out in the 90s, but now they sound stereotypical and boring.

Posted by da troof | December 22, 2009 4:47 PM

unbelievably dull. This is 2009's biggest hype scam.

Posted by Anonymous | December 22, 2009 6:15 PM

I want to hear what the band of every hipster sounds like who shits on the XX.

Their album is really, really fucking good. Its simple, but its really good.

Posted by Anonymous | December 22, 2009 6:20 PM

@4:45 i think that's on the bus.

Posted by Anonymous | December 22, 2009 6:27 PM

Posted by Anonymous | December 23, 2009 10:07 AM

i think there is plenty of good music now just not this band.

Posted by Anonymous | December 23, 2009 10:09 AM

if you hate these guys you have no soul. go listen to wavves.

Posted by Anonymous | December 23, 2009 1:02 PM

"unbelievably dull. This is 2009's biggest hype scam."

this coming from someone who pays 2 grand for a 1 bedroom in bushwick and thinks vivian girls are the voice of a generation.

Posted by Anonymous | December 23, 2009 1:03 PM

^^ none of the above actually.

Posted by Anonymous | December 23, 2009 2:13 PM

beautiful pics

Posted by Anonymous | December 23, 2009 3:51 PM

The XX made a great record - one of the best this year - I can't wait to hear what's next from them.

Posted by Anonymous | December 23, 2009 6:31 PM

it's so striking how awesome the carson daly format change was

Posted by monsoonseason | December 24, 2009 11:07 PM

The whole Snow LP is pretty solid. And these guys easily sold out 3 NYC shows already.

^^^Maybe these are scalpers upset about the T5 addition?
