The Blow @ SXSW 2008 (more by Ryan Muir)
The Blow

As the Bell House's Haiti benefit on Wednesday, January 27th approaches, the show's lineup keeps getting more and more interesting. Since the initial announcement a few changes have been made (The Walkmen replacing Cold War Kids for one) and more acts have been announced. The schedule below reflects the expected set times, with the disclaimers that "performers will be playing abbreviated, acoustic and/or stripped down sets" and "line up subject to change."

AC Newman (who's putting out a new New Pornographers record), Rhett Miller and Nicole Atkins are playing as a Seekers cover band (a supergroup similar to what St. Vincent & Bon Iver did at MHOW on Saturday). Zach Galifianakis was also at the BV Haiti event,

UPDATE: Despite a press release that went out, The Bell House says that Paul Rudd & Zach Galifianakis are not on this benefit (they never said they were, but the press release did). Also the venue says that the set times that were posted (including here last night) are wrong.

Freelance Whales (who have quite a few shows, NYC and otherwise, coming up) are playing, as is Ted Leo (who himself has longer shows planned).

One notable addition is The Blow, aka Kaela Maricich, who played Art Basel in Miami this December, but hasn't played NYC in quite a while (possibly since CMJ 2007).

Tickets for the benefit show are still on sale.

The Blow's last album was 2006's Paper Television, when Jona Bechtolt from YACHT was still in the group. For YACHT's upcoming tour, Bechtolt and member Claire Evans will bolster their live show (previously them and a laptop) by a band consisting of Rob Kieswetter of Bobby Birdman (who is also opening), Jeff Brodsky of Jeffrey Jerusalem, and D. Reuben Snyder of Rob Walmart. The backing band's name is 'The Straight Gaze'. A tour preview clip is posted below.

Zach & Paul are not at this benefit. Totally false. Those times are absolutely wrong too.

This is Jack @ The Bell House. I made it perfectly clear to a publicist trying to be helpful and also directly to Brooklyn Vegan that this WAS NOT the correct times or lineup, that it is listed on our website very clear, but everyone went an posted it anyway. Paul & Zach were not confirmed and did not cancel. Don't be disappointed by listening to these times, just go to our site for a rundown. Thanks.

I really hope life improves for the people of Haiti. I am sure the priority on medical help will definitely save a lot of lives. Looks like a well-organized event.

hmmm... there are no set times on the Bell House site. Just a rundown. It would be cool if Zach Galifianakis shows up anyway.

no tickets available online anymore, is this just bc its day of or bc its sold out?

Posted by Anonymous | January 27, 2010 10:36 AM

Note that there is keyboard karaoke in the front lounge and people like Ted Leo, Carl Newman, Lauren Ambrose will be "for auction" to sing with them! Crazy!

Posted by Anonymous | January 27, 2010 11:05 AM

The show is sold out.

Bell House might have ticket buying opportunities on their twitter.

When does the first person hit the stage?

The order of appearance is ok (to know) and all, but can anyone confirm (bell house peeps, if you are out there...) what time the show will actually start?

I know the tickets/posters say 6pm, but might it really be closer to 7? Just trying to make sure I get there in time (b/c, y'know, it's all about me).

Thanks!

i need some blow

Posted by Anonymous | January 27, 2010 1:42 PM

Yes, some realistic start times would be appreciated. Am I to assume Jimmy Fallon will be stepping on stage to an empty room at 6:02 p.m.?

Posted by Anonymous | January 27, 2010 1:51 PM

The reality is the Gowanus is a trek for a lotta people. And don't give me this nonsense that it isn't. Don't act like you were born there.

So, yeah, start time?

Posted by Anonymous | January 27, 2010 1:59 PM

Doors 6pm

Show 7pm

The list on the site is the order of the performers.

Posted by Anonymous | January 27, 2010 2:00 PM

Yes, show begins promptly at 7. the reason set times cannot be given, is that surprises are in store and there could be unexpected collaborations.

Posted by Anonymous | January 27, 2010 3:49 PM

The surprise guest is Conan O'Brien.

Jack White stated "I don't believe we've played this bar before." It took Jack and Meg not even one song to let everyone know they belonged at Madison Square Garden. I admit I was skeptical. I’ve seen everyone from Queen, Led Zep, The Stones, Who, Cure, Prince, Bruce, Radiohead, Depeche Mode, U2 etc.. at MSG over the years and The White Stripes belonged! They rocked the joint. Yeah it was not Irving but it was cool hearing Jack's guitar fill the big arena. Lame ass crowd though. Lots of applause but most people just standing or some even sitting down! So what it was a weeknight. Just missed Porter Wagoner. Grinderman were very good and pretty well received. They were loud and dirty! Early on Nick Cave fell on his butt and made a joke about it. Great show.Excellent post, thank you very much for taking the time to share with those who are starting on the subject. Greetings

Oh, and what about those question marks on Sunday's text in the concert poster below? No, that isn't saving a spot for a Smiths reunion or U2 debut on the Coachella stage, it's the way that Yorke presents himself as a solo star, the marquee at his Orpheum concert had the same punctuational flourish.

Wonderful post and the location is beautiful and elegant in design and information and everything>>> to Favorites
Amazing is an enormous understatement. One of the best electronic shows I've ever been to and I've seen well over a thousand concerts. I had no idea Vladislav Delay was as good a drummer & percussionist as he is- fabulous and he kept everything swinging with a very unique style of playing. If you missed this you missed out big time...
