I don't want to be "that person" who sounds like he's above popular music, but I always expect more from musicians themselves to tell me their favorite album of the year is something I never even heard of or something profoundly great. Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix was really good but pop music gets tiresome after repeat overkill.

I agree. Elite music that gets tiresome after repeat overkill is much better.

I also was surprised by how pedestrian that list is.

Glad to see The Aliens get some love, they make really fun albums.

More like Greg DULL-i, right?

Disappointing list. Dulli should listen to some real music, like Rowland S. Howard's great _Pop Crimes_, and not this shit.

so glad you recognized kid cudi, who cares if he's on the radio. he's got a lot of talent - soundtrack 2 my life is an amazing song. BUT phoenix? really? this has been #1 on so many lists i feel like i should listen to it again because i obviously missed something.

it's so mainstream to be anti-mainstream. y'all not original either... not listening to the radio has turned into mainstream. music is personal anyway. if a certain album brings them joy, gets them out of a funk, or just gets them dancing on the dance floor. who the F cares.

How is having Tinariwen, The Aliens, and Dam-Funk on your top ten list make you a sell out and commercial? Who else has Gilles Peterson Cuban comps on their list? And Phoenix's album is album of the year, so why is that a problem? I mean, I like Ornette Coleman and "Safe As Milk" and Gonjasufi as much as the next person, but Christ... Get over your indie fool selves.
