Kurt Vile & The Violators

Kurt Vile & The Violators opened for The Black Keys on New Years Eve at The Riviera in Chicago, part of a multiple night run for the headliners. Graeme (our photographer) was in the windy city with plans to catch Black Keys AND Girl Talk. He succesfully made it to Girl Talk, but the timing didn't work out right for the Black Keys. He did get pictures during Kurt's opening set though. Those, along with video of the Black Keys New Years countdown, are continued below...

Sounds like a real good paring, wish more shows could be like that. So who went to this?

Why would you ever choose Girl Talk over the Black Keys. Yikes bad choice.

i went on NYD. shit was cash. i didn't know anything about kurt vile, or his band, but they were pretty damn good. i know there is inevitable brooklyn hipster-inverse backlash, but they seemed like regular dudes to me. sounded like arlo guthrie fronting deerhunter. folksy and hypnotic. black keys were great. show was packed. sound could of bit a bit louder. good times.
