"The reeling - passion pit. Rad stuff!" - Jonas Brothers

"I think the craziest photo I have--and actually my parents thought it was really amazing--we were at Glastonbury, I got to meet Bruce Springsteen, and being from New Jersey, he's like the town hero and icon, and like, I met him and hung out with him, and we took a picture together, and I was like, 'Holy crap, I can't believe that happened.' Of all places, we were in England, and I met Bruce Springsteen. Just crazy stuff like that. Things like, 'Hey I'm at my parents' now and two or three weeks ago I was in L.A. and we met the Jacksons, and it's like, what? That happened? That's weird.'"Passion Pit played their first of three sold out shows at Terminal 5 in NYC on Friday night (1/8). We'll have more recaps and pictures of the openers after the final show on Sunday. More pictures from night one, below...

How long was the set? How long into it did falsetto get annoying?
Posted by Anonymous | January 9, 2010 6:27 PM
Nice set list post. I hate you lol.
Posted by Anonymous | January 9, 2010 6:48 PM
Can we all finally agree that 'rad' needs to be shelved, again?
Posted by Anonymous | January 9, 2010 7:13 PM
I wonder if the Jonas Brothers even post their own tweets. Columbia Records probably tweeted that. I'm not saying that it's unlikely the Jonas Brothers would like Passion Pit, but just seems more likely the source of the tweet is not actually them.

No, they were there. I sold them three balloons outside T5 after the show.
Posted by Anonymous | January 9, 2010 7:45 PM
I was at where the band was after the show and ended up hanging out with the bassist at my place a little after. We ended up making out, he fingered me and I jacked, blew him off, and I was pleasantly surprised at how well groomed he was down there!

@8:08, see @7.55pm for the answer.

And like, we played, like Terminal 5, and like it was sold out, like 3 times! Like, I can't believe it and like my parents were like, "we're so proud of you!"
Like, how many times can you say "like" in a sentence?
Posted by Anonymous | January 9, 2010 9:28 PM
If only Passion Pit would lose the falsetto (or at least the overuse of falsetto)...
Posted by Anonymous | January 9, 2010 10:13 PM
looks like it was a sausage fest.
Posted by weenie | January 9, 2010 10:49 PM
does anyone have the actual setlist?
what was the second song they did in the encore? The cover of some 90s Lite FM fare.
Posted by Anonymous | January 9, 2010 11:56 PM
yeah he does sound like a moron in that quote
Posted by Anonymous | January 10, 2010 1:20 AM
The cover was of The Cranberrie's "Dreams"

Posted by Anonymous | January 10, 2010 2:40 AM
ugh can you imagine the crowd at this show? i'd rather hang myself than see a sold out passion pit at terminal 5. they're blasting this shit at fraternities now
Posted by Anonymous | January 10, 2010 3:54 AM
what exactly is the age range that you want the crowd to be in?
Posted by Anonymous | January 10, 2010 10:03 AM
haha I could just imagine a BrooklyVegan reader outside of a frat hearing Passion Pit... oh god, grow up. don't hate the music because of who listens to it.
Posted by Anonymous | January 10, 2010 11:05 AM
It's so funny how scared you people are of fraternities.
Posted by Anonymous | January 10, 2010 12:19 PM
"It's so funny how scared you people are of fraternities."
Scared? For me, it's more like being disgusted by people who are too scared to be their own person and need to join a club to identify who they are. Frats are for pussies and dumb fuck mental midgets who can't think for themselves.
Posted by Anonymous | January 10, 2010 12:26 PM
^^and people who need to pay for friends^^
Posted by Anonymous | January 10, 2010 1:22 PM
@12:19 and 12:26
It depends what type of fraternity we're talking about here. Are we talking about a fraternity that actually has a purpose, such as doing a lot of community service, prides itself on being a group of students who've achieved an impressive scholarly level, is an exclusive group that identifies with a certain ethnicity or faith system or any other example of social betterment? Or are we talking about a fraternity that is invented for the sake of escaping responsibility, made up of people who are looking for an easy way to do demoralizing things to others, are close minded, lack social awareness and exposure to the outside world, need to surround themselves by mirror-image reflections of themselves and see women as objects and not humans? Because if it's the latter, then anything those people associate themselves with automatically gives whatever it is a bad perception.
Posted by Anonymous | January 10, 2010 1:26 PM
it depends on what the definition of "is" is
Posted by Anonymous | January 10, 2010 3:15 PM
seriously though, this is the worst fucking band right now, they are destroying culture as we speak, think for yourselves people!
Posted by johntrenton23@gmail.com | January 10, 2010 3:42 PM
I would have needed to drink all of that alcohol to get through that show..
post script: any good underage poon there?
Posted by Anonymous | January 10, 2010 3:54 PM
that show was amazing. the crowd was huge but i still managed to be front thanks to some young boy who decided to switch spots with me.
Passion Pits music is the type of music who makes anyone want to throw up their arms and dance.
the age range was college students even though there were some younger kids.
the crowd was insane.
great great show.
the band went back stage after the second to last song, eveyone thought the show was ofer and we all were cheering for one more song.
Posted by Fan | January 10, 2010 4:42 PM
4:42pm congrats. you just summed up every generic trendy band's show and crowd experience.

why is everyone a jaded prick?

You just described the people of Brooklyn.

"You just described the people of Brooklyn."
Wow... Brooklyn is a huge place. That's quite a stupid comment buddy.
Posted by Anonymous | January 10, 2010 7:35 PM
You guys are all Brooklyn faggots. I say that that as a gay man.
Posted by Black Jesus | January 10, 2010 8:57 PM
Yes... we are all Brooklyn faggots. You are right smart guy!
Posted by Anonymous | January 10, 2010 9:25 PM
such an amazing show! with the exception of the crowd, which was way too abundant with rude people, chanting for Passion Pit while the opening acts played.
...and girls who couldn't hold their alcohol, anyone?
Posted by Anonymous | January 10, 2010 9:59 PM
I was done with Terminal 5 so long ago. But I went back to see of Montreal in September and was absolutely horrified at what kind of people hang out there, and how rude the staff is. I love Passion Pit but opted out to go to these shows; I doubt I will ever return to T5 again.
And yes, everyone on BV is a jaded prick....its something you have to get used to if you want to post.
Posted by Matt | January 10, 2010 10:16 PM
so far it doesnt appear that someone who went to the show complained about terminal 5
Posted by Anonymous | January 10, 2010 10:54 PM
I don't understand how one complains about the "people" at T5. Doesn't is vary from show to show? Couldn't the same people at T5 also go to Webster Hall, Bowery Ballroom, etc.
Posted by Anonymous | January 10, 2010 11:13 PM
I'm late to the passion pit game, I just heard them for the 1st time last week, unaware that there was already a backlash. I dunno, sight unseen I dug the track I heard. Moreso than a lot of the "hip-backed" crap I've heard that I'd actually puke over. Please tell me who I should be liking next week, cuz I'll probably just go back & listen to old Zupano albums.

did their live show get any better?

"I don't understand how one complains about the "people" at T5. Doesn't is vary from show to show? Couldn't the same people at T5 also go to Webster Hall, Bowery Ballroom, etc."
A complete idiot... that's who.

Who was that first opening act on night 3? Good stuff
Posted by Rach | January 11, 2010 11:30 AM
the joy formidable opened for passion pit-great UK band.
Posted by a vine | January 11, 2010 12:06 PM
To the girl who claims she hooked up with the bassist: I'd suggest you go to the Docs! My roommate hooked up with him while they toured through the midwest, got herself a nice std. Yummy.
Posted by l.a. | January 11, 2010 12:29 PM
Also, to address the T5 hatred - yes, there were many douche bags there last night but I agree that its not the venue that attracts those people, but rather the type of music. A lot of different kinds of people like Passion Pit - what can you do? I saw Tegan and Sara there last year and didn't have to deal with any of that bullshit. You also deal with a lot of garbage when you're in the front so...
Posted by Rach | January 11, 2010 3:10 PM
The crowd was young, but the music was good. Passion Pit sounded a lot better than they did at summer stage opening for Phoenix.

Less beautiful pictures, but here's my review plus pics and a video of the cranberries cover

they were actually rather good. they sounded better live than I thought they would. the crowd wasn't horrible and are you kidding me, the t5 staff was fine!
Posted by Anonymous | January 11, 2010 5:36 PM
crowd was high school aged, show was better the 2nd night, highlight was when a girl threw up front and center in the audience and the kids got some guy to mop it up mid-joy formidable. ---who were awesome, btw.

i didnt go to show but i wonder how could the crowd be bad or rude at a passion pit show. They attract "frat boys"? really? they play such feminine music though, with the falsetto, and bright crystal like sounds.
Posted by Anonymous | January 11, 2010 11:19 PM
haha folks is mad jealous here

"Wow... Brooklyn is a huge place. That's quite a stupid comment buddy."
I love how hipsters from Brooklyn feel the need to stereotype "frat guys" all the time, but when it comes to stereotyping their own, then they get all defensive and tell me not to generalize. Please. People are all the same. Frat guys, brooklynites that desperately try to act different despite being the exact same as everyone else around them, whatever.
