Patton Oswalt & Conan O'Brien
Patton Oswalt

"The late-night nightmare is almost over. Conan O'Brien is leaving NBC and receiving a payout--and he'll be free to appear on another network before his contract expires, Kim Masters reports.

The NBC-Leno-Conan war is close to ending, according to a knowledgeable source. According to the outlines of a settlement, Conan O'Brien will leave NBC and the network will make an as-yet unspecified payment. The comedian will be free to appear elsewhere on television well before his contract expires, despite earlier threats from NBC that it would prevent him from working anywhere else.

There is still opportunity for the negotiation to fall apart, but clearly, at this point it is in NBC's interest to put an end to this dismal episode." [The Daily Beast] (via Gawker)

Patton Oswalt, Aziz Ansari, and Ricky Gervais all recently appeared on Conan. Videos below...

Ricky was funny. Patton jokes about being high in the grocery store.

Way to go Jay with your games when you were suppose to retire. A few times a week Im able to catch ten minutes of Conan and Letterman.
This has become ridiculous how much money and games are being played by Jay and NBC. A damn TV show in this economy with this much feuding and money.

Jay is a greedy fucking egomaniac with no respect for himself or his fellow late-night hosts. This should have ended with Jay walking away and going on to another highly lucrative project. What an amazing fucking asshole. I will never watch another second of his show.

I like Conan, but seriously, none of the late night shows are really that great. They all follow the exact same format and formula. They aren't that edgy, and the guests are always asked fluff softball questions, that were obviously already asked during pre-interview in the greenroom. And they are really just horribly boring to listen to.
If you put Howard Stern on any of these channels, he would decimate everyone else in the ratings. It wouldn't even be a contest.

Leno has never been funny. He should have stuck to Doritos commercials. If they didn't force Conan into castration, he would easily emerge as the top biller. He's fucking hilarious.

come back to NY Conan! fuck LA

Posted by Anonymous | January 15, 2010 10:09 AM

Prediction: Leno DOES crash and burn, retires in about a year or two and NBC hires whoever they really want anyway. They can be dicks, because they know they'll win in the end.

"they know they'll win in the end."

They're the fourth-place network at a time when no one is watching network TV. That's not a "win."

Leno sucks now but he used to be a great standup. Track down some of the old clips of him on the NBC Letterman show if you don't believe me.

I went to a Leno taping when I was in LA a couple of years ago and he was pretty funny when he came out before the show and just shot the shit with the crowd, but as soon as the show started it was painfully unfunny.

spoon is supposed to be on there next week i wonder what will happen.

this is so boring.

I love Conan and thought he was doing a great job but as much as I hate to admit this, with in a few months this will all blow over and Leno will be on top again unfortunately.

10:26--the point is that they know they'll skate through. Ratings shifts are a ultimately short-term concerns. It's not like NBC is going out of business anytime soon. If your point was that it's NBC who has screwed up, well, yeah. .

fuck your chin nigga

NBC is hemorraging money like a stuck pig. there is no scenario in which they are the "winner." They bet all their 2009 profits on the Jay Leno prime time experiment and lost.

Oh, and what about those question marks on Sunday's text in the concert poster below? No, that isn't saving a spot for a Smiths reunion or U2 debut on the Coachella stage, it's the way that Yorke presents himself as a solo star, the marquee at his Orpheum concert had the same punctuational flourish.
