No PantsNo PantsNo Pants

"The 9th Annual No Pants Subway Ride went off without a hitch today in New York. It's tough to count, but we're guessing we had around 3,000 participants. Riders met at meeting points spread out all over the city and converged on Union Square. The high was 28 degrees." [Improv Everywhere]
The above three photos are by Juan P Zapata Bedoya. Many more at his Flickr.

Lots of videos from the 2010 event, below...

Improv Everywhere was cool, before everyone knew about it. Now it's just lame.

improv everywhere was cool before it went mainstream.

Wow! Really showed those people going about their daily routines how they're stuck in the ruts of the mundane every day, how they are sheltered from authentic living, how they need to recognize an revil in the spontaneity and joir de vivre of their own lives! Now go read some Camus, or even "better" Kerouac!

Fucking children.

agreed...this shit is lame now.

i thought the whole point was not make a big stink of it...and all i see are skanks flaunting it.

These things are so retarded.

I would love for Improv Everywhere to mobilize these idiot kids to do something useful, like meet-up to volunteer in a soup kitchen or something. (And yes, I volunteer.)

Posted by M | January 11, 2010 10:25 AM

yes, it appears that it is now more about exhibitionism than "art." People just wanted to take their pants off. still, its no more stupid than tons of other things that people do.

Even the organizers themselves were giving interviews to the media before the event. and by the way, the picture on the right of the three handstands, the person in the middle is a guy. looks like a girl from far though.

do you people do anything that matters? or is all life just for 'whimsical laughs'. what a bunch of losers. the girls in lill boys underware aren't even attractive. there were all ur high school misfits. While the rest of us went and got jobs after college and started taking some responsiblity for ourselves, they canme to NYC on mom and dads dime. Your poor parents...where is the guilt????

Posted by Anonymous | January 11, 2010 12:13 PM

sheesh, this event is utterly ridiculous. As always is the case, people trying to be different all wind up the same. Just another granfaloon.

Posted by Anonymous | January 11, 2010 12:43 PM

where's a crazy gunman when you need em.

Posted by ryan | January 11, 2010 1:04 PM

the only thing that makes this marginally more interesting than the "silent rave" event is the lack of pants on cute girls

Posted by Anonymous | January 11, 2010 1:07 PM

that email exchange with paul f tompkins makes Improv Everywhere look reasonable and lighthearted, and Paul like a humorless curmudgeon.

Posted by Anonymous | January 11, 2010 1:17 PM

Pants are dumb

Posted by Anonymous | January 11, 2010 2:02 PM

This was actually pretty stupid as far as stunts go.

Posted by Anonymous | January 11, 2010 4:27 PM

I always love the bullhorn announcements at the beginning of these things: "Ok guys, we're going to do something really individualistic and unique, just make sure to listen to what I have to say."
