Radiohead

"Sing along," Thom Yorke told the audience at the Henry Fonda Theater on Sunday night, in case "I forget the words." He didn't, and he and Radiohead proceeded to give the crowd an incandescent version of "Fake Plastic Trees," the rousing second song in a show that was the hottest ticket in town -- and a noble one at the same time.

One of the most esteemed bands in the world has been in Los Angeles recording new music (their presence has been one of the worst kept "secrets" in recent music history), and after the staggering calamity in Haiti, the band was inspired to stage an impromptu benefit show.

The highlight? Pick one. Perhaps the solo piano rendition of "Everything in It's Right Place." The piano was pushed center-stage for Yorke, who seemed to be invigorated by the low-pressure forum and, perhaps, by the heartfelt ethos.

"It's like a memory exercise," Yorke said of a show that dipped into the band's seven-album catalog. [LA Times]

Radiohead's Haiti benefit on Sunday night raised a reported $573,000 for Oxfam Haiti. The band took a break from recording their eighth album to play the show. The minimum bid for tickets, which were sold via auction, was $475.

Who cares if they're "the best". It looks like the put on an amazing, memorable show that made a lot of people happy, and will make even more people happy later on with the money that's donated.

People can argue that "BUT IT'S SO EXPENSIVE WAHHHHHH" but it's going to a good place. So good for them, I hope everyone who went had fun and felt glad they they donated.

my favorite band is the best live band, no mine is...you guys need to get a grip....there are a lot of great live bands that are as good as(if not better than) radiohead...

what they did was cool for Haiti, too.

For those of you who don't feel like having the same childish debate about the same fucking bands, here's a link to a video for Lotus Flower (the new song)

Holy crap! A BV commenter talking about music instead of bullshit!? Not possible.

For the record:

Dan Deacon - Talented and goofy
Animal Collective - best band of 2009 and made one of the best records of the decade
Radiohead - the most important band of our generation. the band that our kids will listen to when they reach that age where music starts to matter.

Let's just grow up a little people. It's raining outside.

i love Radiohead and Animal Collective, but the hardcore fans tend to piss me off a bit by proclaiming them to be the greatest or whatever. i am not from ny, but when radiohead come here they sell like a zillion tickets. Yet if you go to a small club show half the f'ing time it is empty. people need to open there minds a little bit, that is all...

why do people compare radiohead and animal collective? they are NOTHING alike other than the fact that they experiment. but seriously, their sounds are so different

wow 12:48 you're so cool and intelligent!

Minimum closing bid was actually $450/ticket, with the highest sale going to a guy who bid $2,000/ticket.

No crazy lights, somewhat unrehearsed, relaxed, and stripped down but still a fucking amazing show.

There are so many ways we can help, I am glad to see people coming together.

I specificaly like how creative this one is. It’s an ebay auction for “Clyde Toast Ghost” with the sale proceeds to be donated to Clinton Bush Haiti Fund.

Radiohead is alright but the singer whines and appropriates "weird" new music effects from non commercial electronic bands.

But help Haiti by all means. Its no secret the intelligence communities of France and the U.S. have exploited the hell out of Haiti's natural resources and propped up the Duvaliers
