Sharon Jones @ Brooklyn Bowl on December 30th (more by Kyle Dean Reinford)
Sharon Jones

The release date for Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings' new album, I Learned the Hard Way, has been moved up almost a month, from the original May 4th to April 6th. Jones will be dueting on this Saturday's SNL with musical guest Michael Buble (wait, what?). They'll do the song "Baby (You've Got What It Takes)" off Buble's October 2009 album Crazy Love. Sharon also sings on the album version (which I did not realize until now). That song is embedded in a video below.

Sharon's Dap-Tone labelmates Naomi Shelton & The Gospel Queens will play a Haiti benefit at Knitting Factory Brooklyn on Monday, February 1st. They join the Antibalas-related group Amayo's Fu-Arkist-Ra (which will be bolstered with members of Chico Mann & Fela! cast members), Ikebe Shakedown and DJ Rich Medina. Tickets are on sale. Flyer below...

wow, a lot of racist assholes in the comments section today.

3:36 I will tell you why you should "care about this lady and her band" because she fucking rocks.

OK- I see my humble question is being answered.

Who is being a racist? Jesus, can one not even question a performer's (who happens to be black)talent, pull, and sudden interest without being labeled a racist? I don't see how asking "what's the beig deal with this person and why do they get so much attention from this blog"
is akin to being a racist. You white people gotta settle down with all this fake political correct-ness. It's getting to the point where a single honest question draws that kind of fire, to say nothing about the Man in the White House...
I wouldn't wanna be dubbed unpatriotic on BV as well. That and "racist" is beginning to be the same thing: empty name-calling. The right's answer to the left/ the left's answer to the right. Go figure.

Hey Anonymous, don't get so defensive. Anonymous was probably referring to that other Anonymous' ignorantly offered comment about affirmative action.

Anyway, you can click on the Sharon Jones tag and see that there have been three whole posts on her this month. You're probably just reacting to the photo gallery entry that's been hanging in the sidebar for a while.

Calm down, white people.

Wow, Michael Buble is disgustingly auto-tuned on this cut - Sharon practically blows him away.

She's a crazy vocal talent. I love listening to her sing. Just makes me nod my head and say mmmmhmmmm!

Excellent post, thank you very much for taking the time to share with those who are starting on the subject. Greetings

Oh, and what about those question marks on Sunday's text in the concert poster below? No, that isn't saving a spot for a Smiths reunion or U2 debut on the Coachella stage, it's the way that Yorke presents himself as a solo star, the marquee at his Orpheum concert had the same punctuational flourish.

Wonderful post and the location is beautiful and elegant in design and information and everything>>> to Favorites
Amazing is an enormous understatement. One of the best electronic shows I've ever been to and I've seen well over a thousand concerts. I had no idea Vladislav Delay was as good a drummer & percussionist as he is- fabulous and he kept everything swinging with a very unique style of playing. If you missed this you missed out big time...
