$75 a pop for Tegan & Sara??? Are you fucking kidding me???

Posted by Anonymous | January 29, 2010 11:50 AM

Holy Shit! $75?!>!>! I don't like them... but it's pretty fucked up how they are gouging their fans. Assholes!

Posted by Anonymous | January 29, 2010 11:52 AM

what about the specials tix? That show not happening anymore?

Posted by Anonymous | January 29, 2010 11:54 AM

and that is for a "stripped down nature of the material we will be performing"...
for that price you'd expect some oral sex show from the sisters, no?

Posted by anon | January 29, 2010 11:54 AM

Looks like The Specials tickets might go on sale next week, but who knows?! It's weird how everything was taken down and no one gets back to you at Bowery.

Posted by Bryan Kremkau | January 29, 2010 11:58 AM

She & Him sold out both nights, huh.

Posted by Anonymous | January 29, 2010 12:03 PM

Flaming Lips sold out

Posted by Anonymous | January 29, 2010 12:05 PM

how did she and him sell out so fast, i was on right at 12.

Posted by Anonymous | January 29, 2010 12:05 PM

Flaming Lips baby!

Posted by Anonymous | January 29, 2010 12:05 PM

same here. how is it possible that she&him were sold out exactly at noon?

Posted by slicknik25 | January 29, 2010 12:07 PM

No She & Him for me either

Posted by Anonymous | January 29, 2010 12:09 PM

The Lips did not sell out - I just got a pair for the floor

Posted by Anonymous | January 29, 2010 12:09 PM

It's something with the website. You can get them over the phone still - 866-448-7849.

Posted by Anonymous | January 29, 2010 12:10 PM

The Lips did sell out -- I work at Wellmont...what seat number are you? expect an e-mail about the mishap. The same thing happened for Hanson we were oversold by about 200 seats and needed to issue refunds.

Posted by Anonymous | January 29, 2010 12:11 PM

Why so expensive, Tegan & Sara?

Posted by Kerry | January 29, 2010 12:11 PM

Flips tickets still available, site is not the best for overload, but keep trying

Posted by Anonymous | January 29, 2010 12:13 PM

Tegan & Sara should be ashanmed of themselves. Seriously.

Posted by Anonymous | January 29, 2010 12:13 PM

what happened to the specials tickets? and or show?

Posted by i'm special | January 29, 2010 12:14 PM

If Tegan and Sara charged $25, scalpers would gotten hundreds for those tickets.

Posted by Anonymous | January 29, 2010 12:14 PM

none on the phone

Posted by Anonymous | January 29, 2010 12:15 PM

I was psyched to get tickets for this T & S show until I saw the ridiculous price. Wow. Forget that. Super lame move.

Posted by Eric | January 29, 2010 12:16 PM

if Tegan & Sara charged $25, shit would have sold out as quick as She & Him!

Posted by Anonymous | January 29, 2010 12:17 PM

I call bullshit for the Flaming Lips tickets - No issues with the site!

Posted by Anonymous | January 29, 2010 12:19 PM

Just confirmed on the phone that both She & Him shows are sold out.

Posted by Anonymous | January 29, 2010 12:22 PM

why are you girls complaining? i just got two more tickets for the FLaming Lips and no issue

Posted by Anonymous | January 29, 2010 12:23 PM

$75? Scandalous, goat-getting price. Doesn't Radiohead charge less?

Posted by Anonymous | January 29, 2010 12:23 PM

Pixies reunion tickets = $35

My Bloody Valentine reunion tickets = $50

Tegan & Sara tickets = $75???

Epic hubris fail.

Posted by Anonymous | January 29, 2010 12:23 PM

i just got 3 tickets for the flaming lips, didn't say anything about being sold out and all...

Posted by Slob | January 29, 2010 12:24 PM

to the guy who works at Wellmont: i got GA tickets so no seat numbers

Posted by Anonymous | January 29, 2010 12:25 PM

Just got an e-mail from Wellmont:

We regret to inform you that your order WELL - 137546 - 207649 has been cancelled. Due to an overwhelming amount of traffic on the website, too many order were processed. We are sorry for the inconvenience. For any further inquiries please call 877-WELLMNT

fuck...not bullshit

Posted by Anonymous | January 29, 2010 12:26 PM

What a bunch of stupid fucks you are. Are you all new to getting tickets in NYC? Flaming Lips are not sold out. There will be tons of tickets for The National going for cheap on ebay and craigslist and for sale on ticketmaster the week of the show. She and Him as well will have tickets on sale days before the show back on ticketmaster and probably at the door also.

Posted by Anonymous | January 29, 2010 12:26 PM

To the guy who likes to address employees at Wellmont:

Check your order, I can assure you that your GA seats, or standing since the whole venue is GA, have numbers. How else would an accurate headcount be measured?

No wonder you still work at Foodswings...

Posted by Anonymous | January 29, 2010 12:29 PM

calm down 12:26.... and I think you're wrong. You will probably be able to get Mezz national tix for about face value... but not good seats.

and she & him... maybe they're release a FEW on TM, and a FEW at the door... but it's a much bigger pain in the ass than just getting them when they go on sale.

luckily... I actually got good national seats AND tickets to she & him.

Posted by Anonymous | January 29, 2010 12:29 PM

Specials info anyone?

Posted by Anonymous | January 29, 2010 12:30 PM

@12:26 - Demand is still going to outstrip supply for She & Him. It's going to be a tough ticket.

Posted by Anonymous | January 29, 2010 12:31 PM

are Tegan and Sara performing music still or are they purely on the professional speakers circuit?

"this is a new song. its about my mom.....

*** 42 Minutes of story about Sara's mother later***

"oh and thanks for the $75"

Posted by Anonymous | January 29, 2010 12:31 PM

12:29 and 12:31, you are both morons who have no idea about concert tickets in this city or scalpers trying to drive up prices. Not one show at Bowery and that includes NIN did not have more tickets on sale a few days before and even some at the door. There will be plenty of available cheap ones on ebay and craigslist as well.

As for The National, not only will you be able to get great orchestra seats the week of but you will probably be able to get great seats for less than face on ebay or craigslist.

You 2 seriously have no idea what you are talking about.

Posted by Anonymous | January 29, 2010 12:35 PM

daft punk is sold out

Posted by Anonymous | January 29, 2010 12:36 PM

Specials ticket on sale was pushed back.

Posted by brooklynvegan | January 29, 2010 12:37 PM

12:35 is right...

selling 2 She & Him for a trillion dollars

willing to meet anywhere in the Williamsburg area

Posted by Anonymous | January 29, 2010 12:38 PM

Relax, 12:35. No one said there wouldn't be any tix available, just that it's not as easy as you are saying. Getting a ticket early is obviously preferable than scrounging around at the last minute.

Posted by Anonymous | January 29, 2010 12:39 PM

the picture BV chose for this post is absurdly fitting.

two pussies that may be singing, but actually appear to be crying

Posted by Anonymous | January 29, 2010 12:41 PM

Does that $75 include getting reamed in the arse by one of them with a strap-on, 'cause it sure feels that way.

Posted by Anonymous | January 29, 2010 12:43 PM

what's the capacity at wellmont? luckily i have seat #s on my tickets for flaming lips! can't wait to see them in a small venue. It will be like the time they played at the peach pit after dark.

Posted by PM | January 29, 2010 12:43 PM

I got on at 12:20 and got Lips tickets on the floor, and got the confirmation email, its not soldout yet.

Posted by Birdo | January 29, 2010 12:49 PM

for the knowledgeable fan that is there at 12pm to buy the ticket (and believe it or not, many people can't drop everything they are doing to be at the computer hitting refresh at 12pm), $75 isteep for Tegan and Sara. For a lot of other fans, however, $75 isn't all that bad--it's what gets paid out via CL,ebay, and stubhub all the time. This time, rather than that money (between say $25 and the $75 you end up paying) going to a scalper, it goes to the artist. What is so wrong with that? You can choose whether or not you want to go to the show, and this way tickets are available for people that are willing to pay for the privilege, rather than trying to buy up available supply and then sell them. Look at she & him--you know 100-200 of the 600 tickets are going directly onto stubhub. Would spculators be so eager to buy tickets if the prices were $75 instead?
Look, no "fan" has a "right" to see their band at a reasonable price--they can buy it at the market price--why hat on Tegan and Sara for trying to get what they can? If it doesn't sell out, it doesn't sell out. For those of you willing to wait until the last minute, yes, tickets will probably be available, and someone who thought they could go but suddenly can't may offer you the $75 ticket for a lot less. But if you want some certainty, you'll pay up.

Posted by Anonymous | January 29, 2010 12:52 PM

I like Tegan and Sara a lot, but $75 a ticket is completely out of control. Especially since they just played two NYC dates at the end of October.

Lucky for them this is New York, where there are always people willing to pay, no matter how high the cost.

Posted by Anonymous | January 29, 2010 12:55 PM

also, flaming lips definitely NOT sold out

Posted by Anonymous | January 29, 2010 12:58 PM

someone mentioned this on bv before. they could do the will call thing and only allow you buy one ticket. problem solved. yes, youre there by yourself, the only negative, but it ensures that real fans go for a non ridiculous price.

Posted by Anonymous | January 29, 2010 12:59 PM

Sweet Apple $12. Fuck T&S

Posted by Anonymous | January 29, 2010 1:00 PM

What's so "special" and "intimate" about a general admission show at a 650-person venue? For $75 I expected it to be cabaret-style seating or something. Every other show on their tour is between $28 to $35. What a joke.

Posted by Anonymous | January 29, 2010 1:00 PM

tegan and sara are in for a big surprise because their fans do not want to spend $$$ on tkts.

Posted by Anonymous | January 29, 2010 1:03 PM

Haha, 12:31. Speaker's circuit.

**15 minute story about Tegan learning to iron**

**12 minute story about pregnant lady in audience**

Posted by Anonymous | January 29, 2010 1:05 PM

Yo BV, could you look into if the Living Sisters (who are opening for She & Him on 3/29) are playing any other just-them NYC shows surrounding this date?

This band is Inara George (Bird and the Bee), Becky Stark (Lavender Diamond/Decemberists) and some other girl from LA they're friends with.

Their record comes out on 3/30, which leads me to believe some sort of album release-type show may be here.

Posted by Anonymous | January 29, 2010 1:05 PM

looks like im gonna be on stubhub trying to get tickets only balcony seats left for the lips

Posted by Anonymous | January 29, 2010 1:06 PM

also, flaming lips definitely NOT sold out Yeni Diziler

Posted by Emin | January 29, 2010 1:09 PM

lucky to pull She & Him tix; the presale went so fast it's like it didn't even happen

Posted by Anonymous | January 29, 2010 1:18 PM

I would like to bitch on a message board

Posted by Anonymous | January 29, 2010 1:21 PM

i will resell my Flips tickets and pay my rent this month

Posted by Anonymous | January 29, 2010 1:21 PM

are you fucking kidding?
Did she & him sell out both nights?

Posted by Anonymous | January 29, 2010 1:26 PM

Not going to see the Lips again unless Wayne promises to keep his pants on.

Posted by Anonymous | January 29, 2010 1:28 PM

For $75 they should have Susan Boyle as the opener

Posted by Anonymous | January 29, 2010 2:38 PM

bought four tickets to tegan and sara! so excited!

Posted by Anonymous | January 29, 2010 2:47 PM

if Tegan & Sara charged say $30-35 for their show at MHOW what % of tickets would be for resale on craig's list ? I'd say 10 to 15% at most ..
I really doubt the reasoning for them charging so much is to combat the scalpers.. its making money hand over fist and knowing (or maybe hoping) they have 600 devoted fans that will pay it... I dont think that is necessarily a bad thing but you can do it that for say $45-$50....but $75 is just obscene... with the economy what it is etc... God , most benefits for Haiti were much less... maybe they are donating some money to some cause other than to new tattoos for themselves ? I'd like to think they weren't that greedy but all indications point to yes they are... the costs in that venue aren't very steep.. if they can be covered on a $15 ticket..at $75 you have to figure T & S stand to do very well for themselves....

Posted by Anonymous | January 29, 2010 2:54 PM

2:54 it is just pure greed. Sick stuff...music should be accessible. $30 would be fair.

Posted by Anonymous | January 29, 2010 3:01 PM

well $30 would be less than they are charging in much bigger venues... I mean I get the concept.. limited tickets more demand and I don't begrudge them making money.. I just think there's a fine line between making a calculated business move and completely gouging....and they have jumped over that line with both feet... Does anyone know if the show is seated ? (which would then reduce capacity) in that sense it becomes even more limited... ..though even then its still pretty bold...

Posted by Anonymous | January 29, 2010 3:26 PM

Show is GA, not seated. Greedy fucks, period.

Posted by Anonymous | January 29, 2010 3:50 PM

$50 for the yet to be sold out Flaming Lips show is not as outrageous as what it costs to catch the twin lesbians, but close.

Posted by Anonymous | January 29, 2010 3:55 PM

I would be shocked if the Lips aren't coming to NYC. They're probably holding off on announcing an NYC show so that the Wellmont show has an audience. Otherwise, I imagine half (if not all) of the people buying Wellmont tix probably wouldn't have. Tricky bastards. Maybe not, but this seems about right to me.

Posted by Anonymous | January 29, 2010 4:24 PM

Looks like the Lips gig is sold out. Look for my GA tickets on stub hub next week!

Posted by Anonymous | January 29, 2010 4:32 PM

Modest Mouse didn't charge $75 when they played MHOW, did they? And they are a much bigger band and that was at the height of the economic bubble.

Posted by Anonymous | January 29, 2010 4:36 PM

so hopeful of people who did not get tickets to think they will add another date in NYC
last time they played a much bigger venue, so why would they hold off on announcing it when they can capitalize on it?
go to CL, SH and ebay to snatch your tix while u can

Posted by Anonymous | January 29, 2010 5:10 PM

5:10 is obviously a scalper.

Posted by Anonymous | January 29, 2010 5:40 PM

I just checked prices for the rest of Tegan and Sara's tour and none of other shows come close to being $75. This is the only show priced that high and it's called a "very special evening with Tegan and Sara" on ticketmaster.

They must have something really "special" planned for that night I guess. High price or not, the show is gonna sell out quick. They've got rabid fans.

Posted by Anonymous | January 29, 2010 5:42 PM

the Tegan and Sara show is a seated show

Posted by Anonymous | January 29, 2010 5:46 PM

tix are still very available for Tegan & Sara...just checked on TM
...so much for selling quick......seated or not its highway robbery....and gonna cause more backlash than goodwill towards them in the end..

Posted by Anonymous | January 29, 2010 6:38 PM

There's Tegan and Sara tickets for the MHOW show on ebay already. For $300 and $400. WTF?? THAT is highway robbery.

Posted by Anonymous | January 29, 2010 7:51 PM

I don't know, it's not really highway robbery, since at the moment at least it's only going to fleece incredibly stupid people with way too much disposable income who don't realize they can still buy tickets for $75 off Ticketmaster.

Posted by Anonymous | January 29, 2010 7:56 PM

Where are people getting the info that it's seated? I haven't seen that anywhere, and Ticketmaster lists the tickets as General Admission Standing, same as any other MHOW show.

Posted by Anonymous | January 29, 2010 7:58 PM

>>There's Tegan and Sara tickets for the MHOW show on ebay already. For $300 and $400. WTF?? THAT is highway robbery.
>>

there's always going to be scalpers out there but by charging $75 they are really punishing their biggest fans over a few bad apples... Also by establishing $75 as the base price they then raise the stakes on what scalpers think they could charge...

Posted by Anonymous | January 29, 2010 10:42 PM

I'm sure their biggest fans would pay double or triple that amount to see a show that's gonna be as unique as this one is supposedly gonna be. I think people really underestimate how incredibly strong their fanbase is.

Posted by Anonymous | January 29, 2010 10:54 PM

Tegan and Sarah show is sold out.

Posted by Anonymous | January 29, 2010 10:56 PM

A note to all of the defensive T&S fans from Ohio or wherever posting "it's an intimate venue" justification crap...um, no, the Music Hall of Williamsburg is not an intimate venue. It holds roughly 600 people. It's not like they're playing Cake Shop or something.

Posted by Anonymous | January 29, 2010 11:40 PM

What 10:56 meant to say is "Tegan And Sarah [sic] are sell outs".

Posted by Anonymous | January 29, 2010 11:43 PM

'm sure their biggest fans would pay double or triple that amount to see a show that's gonna be as unique as this one is supposedly gonna be. I think people really underestimate how incredibly strong their fanbase is.

>>

I don't think people are underestimating their fanbase.. it's a matter of band making a decision to charge their most devoted fans more than double the amount for this show than all their other shows and that there are bands who are just as popular (if not more) with just as much of a devoted following who would never dream of charging this much.. (while knowing full well they can)
..it comes down to ethics..

Posted by Anonymous | January 29, 2010 11:49 PM

11:40 - not a T&S fan from Ohio, but if I may have a bit of input, T&S currently play 2,000-3,000+ venues. A 550 capacity MHOW IS intimate compared to what they usually play.

Posted by Anonymous | January 29, 2010 11:57 PM

While I didn't and wouldn't pay $75 to see T&S, there are clearly people who will. It's gonna be a "special" show where they're reworking their songs. People apparently are willing to pay for that.

And I don't think it's about greed. Tegan and Sarah just donated $25,000 of their merch sales from the Canadian tour for Haiti relief. That's a lot of f*cking money that could've been in their pockets.

They think this show will be worth $75 and so that's what they're charging. Big fucking deal. They'll be back again for $30-40, and they'll be playing the songs in proper form, so see them then.

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2010 12:10 AM

My opinion is right, and yours is wrong.

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2010 1:03 AM

live forver

Posted by erac | January 30, 2010 2:34 AM

$75 tickets? Is this part of a Wall Street Rocks Brooklyn special series of shows that I hadn't heard about?

Posted by money money money | January 30, 2010 9:15 AM

I work at a store with a Ticketmaster outlet. The T&S show is GA, there aren't seats at the MHOW as far as I know.

There were only 300 seats available, I assume it's that limited because they have A LOT of personal friends in NYC that are probably given tickets.

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2010 9:17 AM

Wouldn't surprise me 9:17 if they charge their "personal friends" $75 a pop to be in their lofty presence. How else would your "master" make any money?

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2010 9:22 AM

I don't care if they *can* do it...that's not the point. Charging that much for tickets, especially in the middle of an economic downturn, is just really tacky and in poor taste.

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2010 11:53 AM

550 tickets at $75 a pop = $41,250. After splitting with the house and expenses, they're looking at a one-time take-home of roughly $20K. Not bad. Granted, it makes their punky, disheveled image a bit of a theatrical farce...but why dwell on the realism when you can worship the fantasy?

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2010 12:06 PM

fuck teagan and sara. they blow.

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2010 12:23 PM

the important thing here is that they aren't getting a dime from me cause they #1 suck and #2 just fucking greedy bitches. hope they don't sell shit.

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2010 12:32 PM

>>looking at a one-time take-home of roughly $20K.

try more like 30 to 35k take home... it doesn't cost 20K to run MHOW for a night.... they cover their nut on sellout $15 shows...
plus they get the bar...
