Soundgarden

The 12 year break is over & school is back in session. Sign up now. Knights of the Soundtable ride again! www.soundgardenworld.com - [Chris Cornell]
After twelve years of attempts at Top 40, complete with collaborations with Timbaland, Chris Cornell has followed the lead of his former bandmates in Audioslave (I still can't believe that is an actual band name) and returned to the great Soundgarden.

Since the breakup, the rest of Soundgarden has kept busy as well, with Kim Thayil collaborating with Ascend, Jello Biafra, and sunn O))), Ben Shepard collaborating with Josh Homme and Mark Lanegan, and Matt Cameron serving as Pearl Jam's drummer. In March, the three joined Tad Doyle (of Tad) on stage in Seattle at a show for The Nightwatchman (Tom Morello). They performed Soundgarden material. Dig on video from that show, as well as a gang of Soundgarden vids, below...

Tad-garden on March 24, 2009 at Seattle's Crocodile Cafe "Hunted Down"

Tad-garden on March 24, 2009 at Seattle's Crocodile Cafe "Spoonman" with Tom Morello

Tad-garden on March 24, 2009 at Seattle's Crocodile Cafe "Nothing To Say"

Soundgarden - "Jesus Christ Pose"

Soundgarden - "Rusty Cage"

Soundgarden - "Hands All Over"

Soundgarden - "Spoonman"

Soundgarden - "Pretty Noose"

soundgarden?!?!? hahah. this band sucks and always has. god, when will some of these bands just learn to fade into oblivion, where they belong.

I source close to the festival says that Soundgarden's first official reunion show will take place at this year's Coachella, joining the ranks of Muse, Beasties, Gorillaz, PIL, Massive Attack, Pavement and Interpol.

Posted by Coachella Insider | January 1, 2010 3:19 PM

ben hansen-douche!

Posted by Anonymous | January 1, 2010 3:43 PM

Not the biggest fan, but Soundgarden is certainly more significant than 90% of music today. You youngsters can have Vampire Weekend...I'll take Soundgarden and songs like Rusty Cage any day.

Posted by Anonymous | January 1, 2010 3:46 PM

This is probably the worst news you want to hear on New Years Day. Hopefully things will get better...

Posted by Anonymous | January 1, 2010 4:22 PM

Will "Smashing Pumpkins" be opening?

Posted by Anonymous | January 1, 2010 4:34 PM

ten bucks says this will be a complete disaster.
SOUNDGARDEN? are you kidding me? i can't see this going anywhere, i'm sorry..

Posted by Anonymous | January 1, 2010 6:35 PM

Apparently everyone is forgetting they reunited in 2008:

http://www.theonion.com/content/news/soundgarden_inadvertently_reunites

Posted by Anonymous | January 1, 2010 8:25 PM

3:46, Congrats! You picked the two worst bands of their respective eras! Soundgarden is the WORST. Vampire Weekend is the WORST. JUST THE PITS.

Posted by Anonymous | January 1, 2010 8:34 PM

So many disgruntled hipster dicks who didn't get laid last night, lol

Posted by Anonymous | January 1, 2010 8:52 PM

I'm so happy I just pooped my pants!

Posted by Lonnie Kaplan | January 1, 2010 10:47 PM

Great! Soundgarden comes back

Posted by iPod Converter | January 1, 2010 10:51 PM

they shoulda just kept that dude from tad!!!

Posted by Anonymous | January 1, 2010 11:41 PM

8:34 PM : Soundgarden was the worst band from that era? Really? Wow are you a stupid twat...

Posted by Anonymous | January 2, 2010 1:43 AM

Loved Soundgarden. However, Chris Cornell can not be forgiven for his "musical indiscretions". I won't be supporting any of his endeavors in any form.

Posted by Anonymous | January 2, 2010 10:10 AM

I could see how one could consider Soundgarden the worst band from that era. Let's say... if you're favorite artist is P-Diddy. Or if your IQ is below 80. Or if you lost your balls in an accident or surgery. Perhaps if you only like classical music.

Posted by Anonymous | January 2, 2010 10:46 AM

Hell yeah they're back, great news

Posted by Chris | January 2, 2010 11:04 AM

10:46, Mr. Bad Example. Puff Daddy's a miserable rapper, but his production work on "Ready to Die" and even as recently as Jay-Z's "American Gangster" far, far exceeds any musical contribution by Soundgarden.

Posted by Anonymous | January 2, 2010 11:07 AM

fuck all you bitches if you think soundgarden sucks. and fuck all those shitty hipster indie rock bands. they all fucking blow and have no talent whatsoever. oh, and fuck all you who like shitty indie rock.

Posted by Anonymous | January 2, 2010 11:24 AM

sweet! this is such great news!

Posted by Anonymous | January 2, 2010 11:25 AM

Soundgarden did one of the best concerts I've ever been to around the time of Badmotorfinger and the Rodney King riots. Totally inpsired, just amazing. A few years later, they did one of the worst, most depressing sets I've ever seen at Lollapalooza. Something tells me this is going to be more the latter than the former: a reunion forged out of desperation.

Posted by Anonymous | January 2, 2010 11:34 AM

*totally inspired*^^^

Posted by Anonymous | January 2, 2010 11:35 AM

They were tremendous around the time of Badmotorfinger. After "Black Hole Sun" and more commercial exposure, things headed south pretty quickly. It was never the same after Cornell cut his hair off, actually. The Samson complex. He seemed to become a different person then.

Posted by Anonymous | January 2, 2010 11:39 AM

"best news of the decade."

LOL.

Posted by Anonymous | January 2, 2010 11:43 AM

man I spent all yesterday listening to Soundgarden! I'm so pumped! Hipster fucks are just mad because no one will give 2 shits when Animal Collective breaks up and reunites 12 years later!

Posted by Anonymous | January 2, 2010 12:03 PM

Hipsters are so bitter because their shitty bands amount to nothing now and no-one will ever care if they break up, re-unite, kill each other, etc.

Hipsters. LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!

Posted by Anonymous | January 2, 2010 1:46 PM

If this is Chris Cornell's apology for that Scream album... apology accepted! now please don't fuck it up!

Posted by Anonymous | January 2, 2010 2:12 PM

take a bong rip and play this song really fuckin loud

hipster bands fucking suck my nuts. pussies!!!

Posted by Anonymous | January 2, 2010 6:36 PM

Soundgarden has returned and all is right again in the world!

Posted by Mikey The Spoonman | January 2, 2010 8:35 PM

so what the fuck happens with Matt Cameron- he just breaks from pearl Jam or do they tour together? Soundgarden was the shit back in the day but since chris cornell has become this giant pussy. not worth risking matt cameron and the rest of Pearl Jams North American tour.

Posted by Anonymous | January 2, 2010 8:56 PM

What's all this sudden indie rock hate? If you hate indie rock, why are you on a music blog called BROOKLYN VEGAN, you complete hypocrites?

Posted by Anonymous | January 3, 2010 1:10 AM

In the words of Dennis Leary himself: we always lose the great artists like Stevie Ray, but there's no getting rid of the shitty no-talent cock wallets like Motley Crew (and obviously Soundgarden) no matter how hard you try!

Posted by Anonymous | January 3, 2010 1:58 AM

I'm glad their back.. I've been a fan for a very long time.. I know he will not hit the high notes but that's ok.. He once had the ability to do it.. He's a grown man.?but for all u new indie or emo what ever the fuck you call your sound.,. Really suck the big donkey dick.. Come on .... Bunch of fuckn spoiled pussy's who can't write for shit or play for shit.. Listen to the old shit and stop complicating ur music by writting pussy as shit... Soundgarden is by far a really good band.. Anyone who doesn't think so probly listens to the killers ...

1:10-yes, and most of the bands on this site fucking suck.

Posted by Anonymous | January 3, 2010 10:25 AM

how can you say "I hate indie-rock"? That's like saying... I hate "pop music". Only an idiot would say... I hate [an entire genre of music]. Who gives a shit about you then? go away.

Posted by Anonymous | January 3, 2010 10:58 AM

i hate shitty hipster indie rock. go listen to the dirty projectors fuckers!

Posted by Anonymous | January 3, 2010 11:42 AM

I FUCKING LOATHE YOU TRUST FUND HIPSTERS AND YOUR SHITTY, SHITTY, SHITTY HIPSTER TRUST FUND BANDS.

SOUNDGARDEN RULES!!!

Posted by Anonymous | January 3, 2010 12:20 PM

I saw Soundgarden in 1990... loved them. Bought every record they released through Badmotorfinger.
I also like Dirty Projectors.

Posted by Anonymous | January 3, 2010 12:27 PM

GARBAGE.

Posted by Anonymous | January 3, 2010 12:39 PM

GROW THE MANE BACK, CHRIS!

Posted by Anonymous | January 3, 2010 1:32 PM

Williamsburg Trust Fund Hipsters need to die in 2010, and take their crappy bands with them.

Posted by Anonymous | January 3, 2010 1:33 PM

trust fund hipster indie rock has always been shit and will always be shit. they wish they had the talent that soundgarden does.

Posted by Anonymous | January 3, 2010 1:43 PM

FUCK YES!!!! FUCK YESSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by wingwalker77 | January 3, 2010 3:47 PM

This is the best news! Finally, a reunion worth celebrating!

Posted by Anonymous | January 3, 2010 3:48 PM

SOUNDGARDEN RULES. THERE IS NO BETTER.

Posted by Will | January 3, 2010 3:49 PM

They will probably perform better than they used to. Cornell's voice has gotten so much stronger since they broke up. I hope they record a new album.

Posted by Anonymous | January 3, 2010 4:22 PM

fuck yeah!

Posted by Anonymous | January 3, 2010 5:49 PM

all the people who bash "hipsters" while reading (let's be honest) a hipster centric blog are pretty funny. oh yeah and bands should stay broken up it tarnishes the legacy.

Posted by Anonymous | January 3, 2010 10:16 PM

Errrrr, Soundgarden started off as an "indie" band -- Ultramega OK came out on SST. So not all things indie are lousy.

Posted by Anonymous | January 4, 2010 12:11 AM

Hipsters hates themselves just like everyone else hates them.

Posted by Anonymous | January 4, 2010 12:16 AM

Fucking Cash IN ....Fuck off SG

Posted by Anonymous | January 4, 2010 8:18 AM

umm 8:18 Cornell doesn't need to cash in...he does well as a solo artist and made pleanty of money with Audioslave.

Posted by Anonymous | January 4, 2010 9:37 AM

I think the "hipsters-suck, Soundgarden rules" contingent wafted in here from Google searches. The joke is, hipsters love "Black Hole Sun"!

Posted by Aaron | January 4, 2010 12:54 PM

Whoever said Cornell won't hit the high notes is %100 incorrect! You have obviously never seen him in concert solo. His voice is better since Soundgarden broke up. He always hits the high notes now, and he nails it all vocally. His voice was dodgy before they broke up, because it's incredibly hard to sing and play soundgarden riffs. They might add a 2nd guitarist to free up Cornell now, or I'm sure he's had his practice...

If you have seen him perform solo, you'd know he can sing better than ever now.

Posted by da troof | January 4, 2010 3:31 PM

Fucking trust fund hipsters. LOL.

Posted by Anonymous | January 4, 2010 7:17 PM

Soundgarden came out of the indie scene on an indie label, you morons.

Posted by Anonymous | January 4, 2010 7:19 PM

Hipsters. LOL.

Posted by Anonymous | January 4, 2010 7:20 PM

Hipsters. Heh.

Posted by Anonymous | January 4, 2010 7:53 PM

Hipsters. LOLOLOL.

Posted by Anonymous | January 6, 2010 10:22 PM

Wasnt the 90´s all about being a hipster? LOL

Posted by Pedro | January 15, 2010 11:07 AM

sorry but Soundgarden are kind of a hipster band... they are shunned by most hard core heavy metal enthusiasts and were essentially an indie band before they signed to a major. So those of you saying go listen to your "indie bands," might wanna get off your high horse

Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2010 5:15 PM

soundgarden suck and i hate indie type music and hate mtv stuff

Posted by Anonymous | May 8, 2010 10:44 PM

Its as if the inter net has become a place where people can come to argue about music which is totaly subjective just like every other art form so shut up all you hipster twats, i like soundgarden and grunge just as much as i like some indie music

Posted by Anonymous | February 6, 2011 10:40 PM

Goddamn, no NYC proper show? And Coheed and Cambria? WTF?!?!

Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2011 2:11 PM

Yeah but Newark is an easy path ride away!

Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2011 2:25 PM

the lineup for the show in Seattle sounds epic

Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2011 3:09 PM

Prudential Center is going to me much better than Jones Beach. Stop being a puss, 12:11 and just get on the damn NJ Transit train.

Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2011 3:10 PM

As far as I'm concerned, those effers owe us a Roseland show seeing that they cancelled the last one on the day of the show, 11/17/1996. The band broke up and they never came back to NYC. Saw the greatest SG show ever at Jones Beach when they opened for Neil Young in an insane thunder and lighning storm (1992?), so don't knock the beach.

Posted by Smack | May 5, 2011 4:38 PM
