"St Vincent brought out David freaking Byrne!!" - Kari

St. Vincent
St. Vincent

For the second week in a row, Justin Vernon (Bon Iver) and Annie Clark (aka St. Vincent) performed together at a NYC show. Last week it was the Haiti benefit. Last night it was St Vincent's headlining show at Lincoln Center's Allen Room. Last week included a bunch of covers. Last night included the Twilight song. Shara Worden, saxophonist Colin Stetson and a member of Megafaun were surprise guests last week. David Byrne, Budos Band horns, and a member of The National (and Justin) were surprise guests last night.

St Vincent appears on David Byrne's new album, as does Nicole Atkins who shares a bill with David at Bowery Ballroom on February 3rd. Bon Iver and St Vincent are both playing MusicNOW fest in March. The National just announced a new album and a tour that includes Radio City Music Hall, and the Big Ears Festival that St. Vincent is also playing.

St. Vincent heads out on tour with Wildbirds & Peacedrums on February 3rd. More pictures and the setlist from the Allen Room, below...

brilliant show. the song with david byrne was absolutely ridiculous.

Also, really wish St. Vincent would collaborate so closely with an artist more worthy than Justin Vernon. Roslyn is a chill song, but Annie is capable of so much more.

WUZ LISSY TRULLIE THERE?

A David Byrne appearance is not something that is rare in the city. No reason to get that excited. :)

lets be real here, that david byrne song was awful. it's been years since a musician challenged him to do anything but his now default schlocky butt wiggle music. if he and Annie collaborated on this one, she was overly deferential to the icon David Byrne. She's writing adventurous stuff right now; Byrne's not, and that song they played was definitely not adventurous.

this kari girl convinced me once again that twitter is for pretentious idiots.

This show was fantastic. She is otherworldly live. I didn't think the Byrne song was so bad. Yes, she was deferential to him - she's a total sweetie. I hope they don't start dating.

these pictures are lousy. way to make an amazing show in an amazing setting seem absolutely pedestrian.

i heard 10:00 tripped on the picasso at the met and called it an improvement

@10:03...lmfao. hahaha.

should have gone to this. looks unreal

I for one like David Byrnes butt wiggle music. show could have used more butt wiggling.

This show was pure magic. The acoustics at the Allen Room are perfection. I hate every venue in the city now. Can we burn down Terminal 5?

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2010 12:17 PM

i don't think the photos are "lousy" especially given that the allen room seats the photographer in the back (30 ft away from the stage), doesn't let the photographer move at all, and requires use of a sound blimp.

FTW 10:03.

St. Vincent is the Michael Jordan of Boring.

Posted by Frandy | January 30, 2010 2:53 PM

Breathing? what song is that?

Posted by imkoreansowhat | January 30, 2010 3:10 PM

Breathing is the song she is writing with Byrne.

talking heads and the smiths are the two bands who will never ride the reunion bandwagon.

Did Annie sing lead vocals on Mistaken for Strangers? how was it? I can't really picture anyone but matt berninger singing it

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2010 4:44 PM

4:44 - she sang it like she did at the Haiti benefit (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bRkP0TiEEpw) except the band backed her so it didn't sound so sparse. But it was the same tempo.

does J.Vernon live in NYC?

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2010 5:43 PM

"does J.Vernon live in NYC?"

no.

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2010 6:47 PM

Mistaken for Strangers was haunting and ethereal. I love that song, and her version was more beautiful. That Allen Room is amazing too.
