Teddy Pendegrass

Silky voiced soul singer Teddy Pendergrass, whose hits "Turn Off the Lights" and "If You Don't Know Me By Now" set the mood for millions of fans, has died at age 59.

The singer's son, Teddy Pendergrass II, said his father died Wednesday night at Bryn Mawr Hospital.

Pendergrass' son said his father underwent colon cancer surgery eight months ago and had "a difficult recovery."

The elder Pendergrass was born March 26, 1950 in Philadelphia. His mother, who raised him, discovered his talent when he started singing in church when he was only 2 1/2 years old, according to his Web site. [Philadelphia Inquirer]

RIP

How is his son "II" and not "Jr."?

Posted by Anonymous | January 14, 2010 5:37 PM

@537 thank you

To 5:37: Usually reserved for kings or popes, it's perfectly acceptable to substitute II for Jr. For the "common man" it's pretentious but still acceptable.

5:37 and g:

II can also be used if a generation is skipped (grandfather to grandson) Technically a Jr. automatically becomes a II when Sr. dies, but that's obviously fallen out of practice. It HAS become a bit pretentious, but that is a pretty recent development. . .

WOW!!! that link at 7:31 is some seriously illiterate, ignorant horseshit. It takes some valid points and stomps them to the most thoughtless common denominator possible. As awful as so many BV comment board posts are I'll take them any day over such pathetic score settling. Talk about pissing in the wind!
