What happened to the Specials ticket pages on Ticketmaster and Bowery's sites? Presale was suppose to be today too.

Is the National sold out already? FUCK.

what is the magnetic fields password?!

Is it just me or is Radio City Music Hall way too big of a venue for The National. Don't get me wrong, I love the band and their music but Radio City? Really? It was only 2-3 years ago when they were opening for Arcade Fire at that venue with the seats half filled. I think the National would be better served at Terminal 5 again, Webster or Roseland. I small setting is best for this band. I miss the good old days of Bowery. Let's all hope they play a one off date there.

The Specials US only performance will be Coachella :)

just like Goldenvoice booked Portishead's only US apperance in 2008.

Posted by Anonymous | January 27, 2010 11:12 AM

more crap seats

a musictoday presale would've been better

Posted by Anonymous | January 27, 2010 11:16 AM

11:11, I'm hoping for a Bowery show too. The RCMH show is too expensive for the shitty seats offered.

Posted by michaelways | January 27, 2010 11:23 AM

The National at Radio City for that price? Pass! Smaller venue please. Come on National.

Posted by Anonymous | January 27, 2010 11:29 AM

I remember seeing the National June of 2007 in Philadelphia at a venue called Johnny Brenda's. Holds only about 200 people. That was a fantastic show from a band on the rise. Radio City brings me down now from that ride.

The National played Radio City (as well as other comparable in size venues) when they opened for Arcade Fire...

I felt like it was the wrong room for them then. Although, of the bigger venues... Radio City probably has the most appropriate acoustics for their sound.

The band has blown up, so most likely those days of the smaller venue gigs (unless they are one offs) are gone. Them's the breaks kids.

Saw National in Maxwells for $10 in 2006..times canged quickly!

Posted by Anonymous | January 27, 2010 12:03 PM

The National are too big now? Selling 100,000 records isn't very big at all. They are big only in terms of indie cred. In the grand scheme, they are not big enough to play Radio City. I think there will be a lot of empty seats.

Posted by Anonymous | January 27, 2010 12:07 PM

Arcade Farts

"I think there will be a lot of empty seats."

Think all you want...the presale yesterday sold out in 30 minutes.

Looks like you guys need a new up & comer to feel exclusive about.

Posted by Anonymous | January 27, 2010 12:15 PM

pre-sale yesterday was gone in an hour or two. seems they are big enough by that indication. they also sold out central park easily.

Posted by Anonymous | January 27, 2010 12:15 PM

Presale means nothing. They might only be selling 200 tickets for the presale. Central Park is only like 2,000 people. Radio City is a lot bigger. Are you happy the band is playing huge venues and charging $39 + tax + fees or would you rather pay $12-18. By the way...fuck you.

Posted by Anonymous | January 27, 2010 12:19 PM

Plenty of tickets will be available come general sale.

Posted by Anonymous | January 27, 2010 12:21 PM

Saw National inside my girlfriends vagina. Good show.

Posted by Anonymous | January 27, 2010 12:25 PM

Plenty of shitty tickets, especially considering the presale had the worst selection possible. Gotta keep the guest lists/contests a plenty open since we live in new york!

Posted by Anonymous | January 27, 2010 12:26 PM

Central park is not only 2000 people. It has almost the same capacity as Radio City.

Posted by Anonymous | January 27, 2010 12:29 PM

National sold 5000 tickets for summerstage

Posted by Anonymous | January 27, 2010 12:29 PM

I believe the capacity at Summerstage is around 3000....not 5000.

Anyway I remember I saw this band with that "hyped" band Clap Your Hands Say Yeah back in 2006 at Khyber (capacity 100) and the National blew them away....

Glad they're playing Radio City....good luck :)

They deserve to be playing at Radio City and not Terminal 5...T5 sucks.

Posted by Anonymous | January 27, 2010 12:36 PM

They definitely deserve a grand venue like Radio City.

Posted by Anonymous | January 27, 2010 12:37 PM

12:25 I was at the show. Didn't like the venue..too stuffy and no atmosphere! Drinks were also mad hard to come by! The bouncer at the door was a prick too!

Posted by Anonymous | January 27, 2010 12:41 PM

Funny, I thought the venue that 12:25 mentioned had a very loose atmosphere to be honest.

Posted by Anonymous | January 27, 2010 12:46 PM

saw them at the opera house in brooklyn 2008. awesome show. and that place is pretty big, plus they did two nights.

Posted by Anonymous | January 27, 2010 12:47 PM

Whoops that show with CYHSY was back in 2005! How times have changed.....

The National headlined one night at Pitchfork last summer...they've stepped up their act. It really blew me away! And if the new album is anywhere near as good as the last 2, they absolutely deserve to be playing Radio City.

Posted by Anonymous | January 27, 2010 1:03 PM

I also saw one of the two sold out shows at the BAM opera house a few years back. I thought they were amazing musically but it was a bit stuffy in comparison to the Bowery and Summerstage shows where the crowd was going bananas. I'm a bit bummed that they chose to play a large seated venue like Radio City but somehow I still pushed the purchase button on this morning's presale.

Posted by Anonymous | January 27, 2010 1:09 PM

same thing in Boston..House of Blues is a crap venue. it like seeing a band in a mall. yuk.

Posted by Anonymous | January 27, 2010 1:14 PM

The National played the first ever show at Terminal 5.

Posted by Anonymous | January 27, 2010 1:26 PM

Stop bitching about a good band finally being able to cash in on what they do. Like you wouldn't play radio city in a heartbeat if your crappy band blew up

Posted by Anonymous | January 27, 2010 1:36 PM

Why is Bowery Presents tweeting about Widespread Panic bootlegs?

Posted by Anonymous | January 27, 2010 1:43 PM

1:43 PM
Why don't you ask them on twitter?

Posted by Anonymous | January 27, 2010 1:45 PM

@ 1:45 Will you do it?

Tons and tons of good music coming out this year after some slow years of 2008 and 2009. New albums coming outs: The National, Arcade Fire, Gorillaz, Massive Attack, Band of Horses, Radiohead, LCD Soundsystem, Liam Gallagher's new band and a Noel Gallagher solo album. This year is going to be tops.

The Gallagher boys are about as interesting as Gallagher.

Posted by Anonymous | January 27, 2010 3:41 PM

Noel Gallagher > Grizzly Bear + The National + Animal Collective

Posted by Anonymous | January 27, 2010 4:30 PM

Noel Gallagher has five musical ideas and stole four of them from The Beatles. The other one was stolen from Liam. Liam had stolen his idea from The Stone Roses though. It's not pretty.

Posted by Anonymous | January 27, 2010 4:39 PM

Pretty sure Noel's best songs don't come from borrowing tunes from anyone. Liver Forever, Slide Away, Supersonic, Wonderwall, Champagne Supernova, The Masterplan, Falling Down and the Shock of the Lightning. Noel Gallagher is def a great songwriter.

Posted by Anonymous | January 27, 2010 8:11 PM

Most musicians wish they could write a song like the elder Gallagher. When you think that he wrote Live Forever, Masterplan, Don't Look Back In Anger, D'You Know What I Mean?, The Importance of Being Idle and Falling Down is absolutely blinding.

"Are you happy the band is playing huge venues and charging $39 + tax + fees or would you rather pay $12-18. By the way...fuck you."

yes, they worked very hard to attain the popularity they now have. and if it keeps people like you from not attending their shows, even better!

Posted by Anonymous | January 27, 2010 9:48 PM

Sensible, practical, actionable, effective. Brilliant stuff. Really it's true that The Gallagher boys are about as interesting as Gallagher.I have bookmarked you. don't forget to add more interesting topic like this..
