Wanda Jackson @ the 2009 Ponderosa Stomp (more by Jacob Blickenstaff)
Wanda Jackson

The legendary Wanda Jackson will be rolling into town and starting a riot on stage at the Knitting Factory (Brooklyn) on Thursday Feb. 11th! 2009 was a huge year for the Rock N Roll icon as she was finally inducted into the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame, had a street in her home state of Oklahoma named after her, and performed for sold old crowds all over the world! The year came to a close with Wanda receiving a slew of international publicity with rumors that Jack White would be working with her on some new music. So, 2010 is already shaping up to be as interesting for Wanda and her fans as Hurricane Wanda blows into Brooklyn next month!
Tickets for the Brooklyn show are on sale. All dates below...

Third Man Records is starting the New Year with the release of two new singles, as well as the announcement of the latest Platinum Package for members of their subscription service, The Vault. This newest singles installment will include tracks from ‘Queen of Rockabilly’ Wanda Jackson and new all-female rock and roll outfit The Black Belles, and will be available on vinyl and iTunes on January 26th.

First up is the highly anticipated Jack White-produced single by rock and roll and country singing legend, Wanda Jackson. In an era when rock and roll and rockabilly was dominated by men, Jackson was a groundbreaker who more than held her own with a ripping voice like no other and hard-headed songs about no-nonsense female protagonists. Her career has spanned rockabilly, rock and roll, country and gospel and she's shared stages with all the greats from Elvis Presley to Jerry Lee Lewis. Jackson’s first release with Third Man Records has her putting her own distinctive spin on two cover songs, Amy Winehouse's "You Know I'm No Good" and Johnny Kidd and the Pirates classic rocker “Shakin' All Over.”

Where would we be without rock star Jack White to bring us unappreciated old rockers. She has been playing around for years but now she will be introduced to the indie clubs like R.L. Burnside was.

Oh, and what about those question marks on Sunday's text in the concert poster below? No, that isn't saving a spot for a Smiths reunion or U2 debut on the Coachella stage, it's the way that Yorke presents himself as a solo star, the marquee at his Orpheum concert had the same punctuational flourish.
