Best Coast @ a benefit in L.A. on February 7th (more by Rachel Carr)
Best Coast

Bethany Cosentino is a Los Angeles native with a brief stay in Brooklyn, and Best Coast's influences reflects that Beach Boys vibe with East Coast 60s girl group such as the Ronnettes and Shangri-Las. Best Coast is brought to life with the help of her long-time friend/guitarist/producer Bobb Bruno and guest drummer for these dates Ali Koehler (Vivian Girls).
Best Coast will kick off their April tour with a show at NYC's Bowery Ballroom on April 1st, where they'll open for Japandroids along with Midnight Masses (who played Union Pool with Trail of Dead last night). Tickets are still on sale.

While in NYC Best Coast are also playing other shows as well. They're at Montclair, NJ's Meat Locker on April 5th, Knitting Factory Brooklyn on April 6th and Mercury Lounge on April 7th. That Knitting Factory show is with Fucked Up side-project The Bitters and Vivian Girls/Woods side-project The Babies. Tickets are on sale now.

Before that, Best Coast will be at SXSW - one of their shows will be a showcase put on by their label PPM (who put out Best Coast's now sold-out 7-inch, which is being re-pressed). That show happens Saturday, March 19th at Barbarella with Gun Outfit, Total Abuse, KIT, Abe Vigoda and No Age.

Best Coast toured the West Coast with Vivian Girls earlier in February. Their full-length debut is expected sometime this year. Videos of the group and all tour dates are below...

Imagine if there were celebrities walking around like John Lennon and Jim Morrison today. I have a feeling the world would suck a whole lot less than it does. I don't think, especially those two mentioned, would have ever become comfortable fat cats. and certianly wouldn't have drowned their musical messages in mountains of guitar distortion and fuzz.

That's just how it is man. The truth of the matter is that (quality) musicians of today don't have the platform those two amazing individuals had way back when, and even if they did I get the feeling they lack the balls to say what they truly think. I mean I think they are wonderful but I don't imagine the guys from Animal Collective or Grizzly Bear getting into a sparring match of ideas with the U.S. government. They probably just don't care enough to.

John Lennon was an ignorant fool in love with his silly boyfriends and insane wife. Jim Morrison had a death wish. I love both, but seriously? Nostalgia is so cliché.

Wow! This is so new and fresh sounding. I totally love it. Amazing. Really amazing. Seriously, love it. Wow!

I'm a dude and i've been listening to them non-spot recently (all of her songs are about dudes). Pure and catchy, just like california music should be.

6:54 I know how we can do it! It's actually really easy. Just don't hit the play button!

I couldn't agree with 9:51 more. I put her at the top of the list as far as lo-fi acts go today.

Posted by Anonymous | February 25, 2010 10:54 PM

She sounds like lo-fi Hole. Abhorrent.

Posted by Anonymous | February 25, 2010 11:15 PM

Didnt this crap already spawn with K records in the early 90's? Even some of those dreadful bands sounded a little more tolerable. Calvin from Beat Happening was alright though.

this music blows my mind. it's so fresh and original. i feel like i'm listening to the Pixies or John Zorn for the first time again. Amazing.
