Dawes

a coming out party of sorts on Friday night (2/19) at the Bowery Ballroom, [Dawes] radiated pure joy and genuine appreciation about getting to where they are today, so much so that it became almost impossible not to root for them. Not only did frontman Taylor Goldsmith repeatedly reflect on previous trips to the city, playing to less attentive crowds and minimal accolades while supporting other bands and in much less glamorous rooms, but they made it clear that it wasn't just about them. It was about a collective "us." Goldsmith literally thanked the fans at every opportunity, making it clear that it wasn't just Dawes that's been getting bigger, it was about everybody in the room getting bigger together. These guys understand that they aren't doing this alone. [Hidden Track]
The Cory Chisel and the Wandering Sons, Dawes and Jason Boesel tour came to Bowery Ballroom on Friday, February 19th. Dawes headlined and played as Jason Boesel's backing band. The tour ends March 11th in LA.

Dawes will then make their way to Austin where they'll be one of the bands that we're proud to host at the official BrooklynVegan SXSW showcase on Wednesday, March 17th at Club DeVille. They share the bill with Bowerbirds, Here We Go Magic, The Middle East, Califone and Serena-Maneesh (who I saw in Norway the same night Dawes played Bowery Ballroom).

We can't wait. You can also catch Dawes on March 20th, at the Ground Control Showcase @ Auditorium Shores, with She & Him, Justin Townes Earle, Deer Tick (who just announced a new album) & more.

More pictures, and a video from the NYC show are below...

Dawes is a great original band. They actually sound better live, which is rare. If I was going to draw a comparison, I would say they sound like Eagles.

I was at this show. It was pretty awesome. A really solid band, esp from such young guys. The whole night was great - all three performances.

Seriously, who the fuck are these clowns? Is it Christian rock? They have the fresh-scrubbed, dbag look of Christian rock bands.

Dawes is the best new band around, not only the most talented musicians but also genius songwriting and arrangements. "North Hills" is amazing and the live show is breathtaking. If this is christian rock then PRAISE THA LODE i'm born again!

Guggenheim billed it as a performance piece and it was just an installation. Resultingly, the crowd simply waited for the "show" to start, limiting anyone's ability to freely explore the space (the ground floor was packed with indian-style seaters, and the balconies were lined with people holding onto their spots like grim death.

Hey ya'll we lost another one.......but I'm glad to have grown up with gangstarr as representatives of this music that has an incredible history.....hip hop is a book that wrote itself and GURU was definetly one of its main characters.....we are all getting older.....and GURU is one of the MCs that added a soundtrack to our lives in the 80's and 90's.......the NAMES,PLACES and FACES come to mind when I hear a GANGSTARR track.........I thank GOD that he allowed GURU to shine in his short time...........REST IN EVERLASTING PEACE GURU

Wonderful post and the location is beautiful and elegant in design and information and everything>>> to Favorites
Amazing is an enormous understatement. One of the best electronic shows I've ever been to and I've seen well over a thousand concerts. I had no idea Vladislav Delay was as good a drummer & percussionist as he is- fabulous and he kept everything swinging with a very unique style of playing. If you missed this you missed out big time...
