Elvis Costell0

February 4, 2010 -- Coming to you live from the Fitzgerald Theater, and beamed into movie theaters across the country, it's a special Thursday evening edition of A Prairie Home Companion. (Saturday's time-slot features a recorded version of the Thursday night show.) Featuring legendary English singer-songwriter Elvis Costello, sibling vocal powerhouses Jearlyn and Jevetta Steele, songstress Heather Masse, and the finest folk duo around, Robin and Linda Williams. Also with us, The Royal Academy of Radio Actors; Sue Scott, Tim Russell and Erica Rhodes, with both Tom Keith AND Fred Newman creating sound effects mayhem. All this, plus a punched-up Guy's All-Star Shoe Band, and of course, The News from Lake Wobegon. Two hours of non-stop fun on the big screen and -- a couple days later -- on your radio.
That coordinated move theater event happened last night, but an encore presentation has been scheduled for February 9th. Participating movie theaters include Union Square, Chelsea Cinema and First and 62nd Cinemas.

For a more live musical experience, you can catch Elvis Costello and The Sugarcanes (Jerry Douglas, Stuart Duncan, Mike Compton, Dennis Crouch and Jeff Taylor) on tour this April. All dates haven't been announced yet, but a bunch are listed below and they include United Palace Theatre in NYC on Friday, April 23rd. Tickets for that show go on American Express presale on Wednesday, February 10 at 10am. General sale starts Saturday, February 13th at 10am. An Atlantic City show is already on sale.

All dates with some videos, including one of Elvis on the red carpet of the Grammys that just passed, and one of Elvis performing with Bruce Springsteen on his Spectacle show, below...

Oh I used to be disgusted, and now I try to be amused. But this guy has sucked for the past 15 years. And I am sick of seeing his face all over the subway walls.

this dude's career has been over for awhile now.

PRESS MEMO FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE!

"Elvis Costello has been deeply hurt by your comments, and to get revenge he has decided to continue torturing you with his presence."

Thanks a LOT, ASSHOLES.

Thanks for the post, BV. We appreciate your work!

Saw him with the Sugarcanes at the Beacon last year. Great show but if you're expecting a greatest hits gig forget it. Apollo taping of Spectacle with Levon Helm, Richard Thompson et al was one of the best shows I've seen in the last five years.

But if you'd rather wank yourself silly over Animal Collective then go right ahead.

[sound of furious wanking]

^ Really? Explain that to his bank account, his sold out shows, and his tv show that was renewed for a second season. I wish my career was as "over" as his...

Elvis > Elvis Perkins > Elvis Costello

"Thanks for the post, BV. We appreciate your work!"

Yes, thanks! Probably would not have heard about this elsewhere.

Hey 4:49, have you heard When I Was Cruel and Painted From Memory? Far from sucking. Go and listen to Hot Chip.

Posted by Anonymous | February 5, 2010 5:21 PM

i find costello to be a bit boring the last several years.

Posted by Anonymous | February 5, 2010 5:21 PM

His absolute best days as a songwriter are seriously past him. He's writing okay songs these days, nothing with the passion and immediacy of the first 6-7 years of his career. The last eight-ten years of his career has been nothing truly special, but considering how long he's been at it, this is NOT a crime at all. God bless him.

I totally agree that the past few years he's been a bit dull, but it's sickening to hear people only talk about his first 3 records over and over. Yes they're great, but what about Blood and Chocolate, Trust, Imperial Bedroom and King Of America? Brilliant records.

Posted by Anonymous | February 5, 2010 5:24 PM

He's dropped a couple lbs. He looks good.

So on one hand we have these clueless people who claim great musicians 'suck for the last however many years' without actually taking the time to listen to the albums and seeing the shows. (I recommend the brilliant "The River in Reverse.") On the other hand there are those who are stuck in the past and think bands like Animal Collective and Hot Chip have to be terrible because they don't get their music. Stick to recommending whatever music you like. If you're constantly feeling the need to say somebody sucks, chances are you're a talentless idiot.

he killed on the "River in Reverse" tour w/Toussaint

Posted by Anonymous | February 5, 2010 10:33 PM

Animal Collective are just terrible because they're terrible, not because they're young.

Posted by Anonymous | February 5, 2010 11:47 PM

Did anyone watch the above Springsteen video? Holy shit that was great.

The lack of musical taste displayed by the vast majority of posters on this site is surpassed only by their stupidity.

Posted by Anonymous | February 6, 2010 6:20 PM

620 is stupid.

Posted by Anonymous | February 6, 2010 7:56 PM

6:20 pretty much summed up the state of the BV comment section. I could not have said it better myself. Thank you.

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2010 12:56 AM

6:20 is really cool and knowledgeable. In fact, he is the same person s 12:56 AM and this.

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2010 7:39 AM

fuck all of you bitches!

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2010 12:06 PM

I wish this guy would fucking away....for fucking ever.
STOP feeding the rich!

Wonderful post and the location is beautiful and elegant in design and information and everything>>> to Favorites
Amazing is an enormous understatement. One of the best electronic shows I've ever been to and I've seen well over a thousand concerts. I had no idea Vladislav Delay was as good a drummer & percussionist as he is- fabulous and he kept everything swinging with a very unique style of playing. If you missed this you missed out big time...
