Henry Rollins

San Diego News Network: Any plans for a return to music?

Henry Rollins: No. I'm not feeling it right now. I rang that bell pretty hard over the years. And I really don't know how to ring it any better or harder. Now that I'm basically 50, in addition to having to write and record for a new tour, there'd have to be old material as part of it. While I feel it's good stuff, there's also a 'been there, done that' aspect to it all that I don't want to go running back to. When I see a band at the airport checking in for a flight, I think, 'yeah, you go ahead and have fun with that.' I already went up that trail many times and there's just not anything new about it for me. I'm not putting it down, it's just that right now, I'm trying to do new stuff.

Henry Rollins is on a months-long spoken word tour around North America. He visits NYC with two nights at Irving Plaza on March 12th and 13th. Tickets are on sale.

He also plays the NYC-area Tarrytown Music Hall in Tarrytown, NY, on March 14th(tickets), and the Boulton Center on Long Island on March 16th (tickets). All dates of his 'Frequent Flyer' tour, including Australia in April and South Africa in May, and live videos about mullets and more are below...

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2010 2:24 PM

Posted by gay dar | February 24, 2010 2:25 PM

he sees a band checking in for a flight, while he's checking in the same flight except for spoken word. i dont see a difference there.

fucking ROLLINS!!!

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2010 4:26 PM

ok, so Black Flag was sort of meh- and his spoken word is mediocre- but there is something about Henry that constantly shows potential. Maybe that's why Black Flag will be remembered. Had. Potential. Sure, Henry's funny and all, but there are a lot of people like that. Just like there were a lot of hardcore bands in the 80's. Just can't put my finger on it. Maybe he should run for political office?

8:29:
black flag were "meh"?
Im sure you think the entire Billy Joel catalog is amazing.
You win.

I enjoyed Beavis & Butthead's commentary on "Liar" while watching that video, and that summarizes everything that Henry Rollins ever did for me.

Honorable mention: his bit part in the movie "Heat"

Posted by Funderburgh | February 25, 2010 9:49 AM

Black Flag were "meh"?!?!?!
What the fuck do you know? What is it that made you feel the need to make that comment? You are obviously a clueless moron.

Posted by Anonymous | February 25, 2010 1:51 PM

Anyone who thinks Black Flag were "meh" deserves to rot in the musical purgatory they've put themselves in.

Oh, and what about those question marks on Sunday's text in the concert poster below? No, that isn't saving a spot for a Smiths reunion or U2 debut on the Coachella stage, it's the way that Yorke presents himself as a solo star, the marquee at his Orpheum concert had the same punctuational flourish.

For those that were saying he's checking in for a flight while looking at a band checking in for the same flight and considering it the same, I think what he means is playing the old schtick. Doing the old songs, same song and dance on a stage for a new crowd. The spoke word performances can be ad libitum, changed on the fly and not use any of the previous material

I was beginning to doubt that it was possible to find decent content for once, I reaaly am getting tired of the absolute drivel I come across daily, respect.
