Lets Wrestle

SXSW is almost exactly a month away and BrooklynVegan is going to be very active there, throwing more than a couple parties (official and unofficial) which we'll be telling you more about as it gets closer to the actual festival. Despite what music blogs lead you to believe (and the mass of people that will be there), not everybody goes to Austin in March. With that in mind, we're trying to bring a little SXSW to NYC this year by throwing a pre-Festival party on March 15 at the Knitting Factory in Brooklyn with three (possibly four) bands on their way to Austin: Let's Wrestle, Casiokids, and The Wave Pictures. Stay tuned for one more band TBA. Tickets are only $8 and on sale now.

Let's Wrestle have just signed to Merge, who will be putting out their great debut album, In the Court of Wrestling Let's, on March 23. (The import made my Best of 2009 list.) You can download a track from it at the top of this post. Maybe you caught one of their CMJ shows back in October -- they're a lot of fun. In addition to our show and SXSW, Let's Wrestle will be on tour with Quasi in April -- including a 4/22 stop at Bowery Ballroom (tickets). All tour dates below...

Glad to see D.R.I. getting there due. This was the first band I ever saw live way back in 1989. I was in the sixth grade and went with my older brother's friend. It was on the THRASH ZONE tour. Ruled.

The first ever music I purchased were two cassettes, D.R.I's DEALING WITH IT and CROSSOVER. Long live thrash metal.

Great pictures.
Excellent post, thank you very much for taking the time to share with those who are starting on the subject. Greetings

Pitchfork shits on another Midlake album. Haven't heard their new one yet, but Van Occupanther deserved a MUCH better review, in my opinion. How this one could be worse than the most recent Kings of Leon is beyond me.

Guggenheim billed it as a performance piece and it was just an installation. Resultingly, the crowd simply waited for the "show" to start, limiting anyone's ability to freely explore the space (the ground floor was packed with indian-style seaters, and the balconies were lined with people holding onto their spots like grim death.

Hey ya'll we lost another one.......but I'm glad to have grown up with gangstarr as representatives of this music that has an incredible history.....hip hop is a book that wrote itself and GURU was definetly one of its main characters.....we are all getting older.....and GURU is one of the MCs that added a soundtrack to our lives in the 80's and 90's.......the NAMES,PLACES and FACES come to mind when I hear a GANGSTARR track.........I thank GOD that he allowed GURU to shine in his short time...........REST IN EVERLASTING PEACE GURU
