After reforming for UK dates last fall, Public Image Ltd has announced North American dates for this April and May. The tour kicks off at Coachella, and comes to NYC for a Tuesday, May 18th show at Terminal 5. They're also scheduled to play Saturday, May 15th at Atlantic City's Borgata Music Box. Tickets for the tour go on sale March 5th and 6th.

The 'reunited' band includes frontman John Lydon, former members Lu Edmonds on guitar and Bruce Smith on drums, and new addition bassist Scott Firth. Original guitarist Keith Levene and bassist Jah Wobble both declined to participate in the tour.

[Jah] Wobble says the original line-up could have reconvened under the right circumstances, but that will now never happen.

"I was asked last July and I definitely did think about it and talk about it to an extent, but it just wasn't the right move for me," he says. "It just wasn't the way I would do it. I don't care, I think it's great and I'm not bothered at all."

"I suspect with John it's about two things - raising money efficiently and quickly and reactivating the PiL brand as his vehicle," Wobble says of the comeback. "That's just business."

The fee Lydon offered the bassist to go on the road was not appropriate for such a tour, with tickets costing up to £39, he said. [BBC]

The tour will be the band's first US shows in 18 years. The current schedule (more dates are planned) is below...

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2010 12:14 PM

PiL @ the Borgata??! How PUNK!!!!

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2010 12:23 PM

I haven't been to T5 yet and I'm curious; why the bashing?

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2010 12:28 PM

No Jah Wobble??? Who cares about this sham of a tour anyway???

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2010 12:29 PM

PIL without Slash is not Jon Anderson.

Ugh. Terminal 5 is terminal. Disappointed, indeed.

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2010 12:38 PM

Bet 99% of the readers on this forum had to google real quick who PIL were before they could respond with witty banter on here.

Dorks.

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2010 12:44 PM

uh huh. i'm bored. WHERE'S TOTAL SLACKER

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2010 12:46 PM

this will not sell out at all.

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2010 12:56 PM

"PiL @ the Borgata??! How PUNK!!!!"

No, but it is pretty damn post punk

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2010 12:59 PM

Calling this band lineup PiL is like Morrissey calling his solo project the Smiths. No thanks.

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2010 1:01 PM

fat ass

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2010 1:10 PM

I'll walk up day of. No way will this sell out T5. Bowery, yeah. T5 nope.

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2010 1:11 PM

"this will not sell out at all"

Whether you like PIL or not, you are wrong. This will sell out - and quickly.

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2010 1:12 PM

No opinion.

Posted by Regular reader | February 24, 2010 1:29 PM

no way in hell will they sell out T5. they should have done 2 nights at Irving.

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2010 2:00 PM

the young people do not know this band

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2010 2:04 PM

This will sell out very quickly. Some of you (apparrently those who had to look up who PIL was) don't seem to have a clue.

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2010 2:04 PM

the new media do not know this band

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2010 2:07 PM

Lu Edmonds is also a member of The Mekons!

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2010 2:18 PM

shut up, you stupid assholes. go cream your jeans over best coast, neon indian, or whatever flavor of the month's cock you are currently gobbling.

this is going to rule.

Posted by oscar the grouch | February 24, 2010 2:23 PM

everyone who thinks PiL is too obscure for the kids needs to get off their high horse. Everyone fucking knows who they are. Not to mention they were always on a fucking major label!

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2010 2:35 PM

i had no idea who they were until this post. they probably will still sell out terminal 5. It seems like everyone sells out terminal 5 these days.

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2010 3:00 PM

granted, jah wobble and keith levene would be incredible, but that version of PIL sailed a loooong time ago. subsequently, PIL=john lydon.

and i'd bet any doofus here that it WILL sell out.

also, i don't get the T5 bashing. of course bowery ballroom and irving plaza rule, but T5 fills a specific need.

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2010 3:05 PM

they'll add a second T5 date. This is going to be a hot ticket.

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2010 3:21 PM

i made the last three anonymous posts

Posted by teehee | February 24, 2010 3:26 PM

terminal 5 sucks

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2010 4:07 PM

I'd like to elaborate on my previous anonymous comment...the main reason it sucks is the big-ass wide open hallway that leads to the main room. It makes it feel more like a corporate convention space then a music venue. Big surprise since it is named after an AIRPORT TERMINAL (albeit a dope, finnish one)

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2010 4:11 PM

what a shame they are playing T5

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2010 4:25 PM

PiL fucking suck plain and simple....come on people.

However..."Rise" is a decent song.

Fuck you.

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2010 4:45 PM

Although this could be entertaining, the tickets are going to be priced way too high for most folks. The San Fran show is at just shy of $50 before service charges. Ick.

"Happy to have, but not to have not. Big business is very wise. I'm crossing over into enterprise." Yup.

Posted by Eggs1234 | February 24, 2010 4:53 PM

Tegan & Sarah or some other shit hipster band just charged $75, so what's wrong with PIL charging $50?

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2010 4:56 PM

ever had the feeling you'd been cheated?

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2010 4:57 PM

THIS THREAD IS A LOSER-FEST

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2010 6:10 PM

So now all of a sudden Alice Cooper deciders Broadway needs him...

Posted by Contra | February 24, 2010 6:28 PM

I love Wobble, but he's a grouchy old whinger these days. And Levene's a decrepit old junkie.

I've heard three of the shows from the UK tour this lineup of PiL did back in December, and this band is fucking ferocious! They're engaging in loads of improvisation like the original PiL did, but they're all far better musicians than the original PiL players were at that time. As big a fan of the original band as I am, I'm seriously not sure they'd sound half as good as the Edmonds/Smith/Firth lineup. Can't wait to see, and not just listen to, them.

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2010 7:00 PM

PIL is way good, I just dont know how good this will be, maybe Johnny Lidon is out of cash again

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2010 8:34 PM

it all comes down to bucks

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2010 10:05 PM

First album = genius
"This is religion" is perfect for a US crowd

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2010 11:24 PM

"PiL fucking suck plain and simple....come on people."

Absolutely clueless

Posted by Anonymous | February 25, 2010 8:04 AM

Echo & The Bunnymen show at Irving Plaza is $50+ with service fees.

I think that T&S show at MHOW just set the new standard for NY shows. Thanks a lot, gals.

Anger is a Mehnergy!

Posted by smack | February 25, 2010 11:31 AM

I just dont get it,everytime a show is at T5,everyone has to complain.I have been there many times and its fine.Really why does so many people not like it?

Posted by Anonymous | February 28, 2010 2:13 PM

Attended the Great PiL Riot of 1981 at The Ritz (aka Webster Hall)
Greatest 15 minute set ever.

Posted by B | March 6, 2010 10:04 PM

If the lineup included keith levene, Jah wobble and martin akins that would be incredible! I don't think i'll go to this.

Posted by PILhead | March 19, 2010 10:38 PM

"Religion" IS a great song, but its not particularly well targeted against American sensibilities. The lyrics are clearly about the Irish Catholic church, and its' references to statues and priests don't hit their mark against US Evangelicals.

Posted by Anonymous | April 12, 2010 8:57 PM

Much love to PIL but why are they playing bowery present shows For? T-5 its the worst of the worst clubs to play in NYC and along with anything to do with crummy livenation that is a Mob coke front opperation from the start..

(BOYCOTT! BOWERY PRESENTS AND COKE FRONT LIVE NATION SHOWS I SAY.)
THEY ARE THE REAL ENEMYS OF PUNK.

I came of age listening to PIL. They have always sucked. That they sucked was the whole point. If you give John Lydon your shekels to see him ply his crap sound you are a participant in the great rock and roll swindle. Go! Enjoy! Live out a piece of history. Suckers...
