Two Door Cinema Club

It's hard not to make Phoenix comparisions when A) the band are on the same label as them (Glassnote), B) are touring the U.S. with them in April, C) have covered them ("Lasso" which you can download above), and your first single kinda sounds like them ("Something Good Can Work," also downloadable above). Clearly some think Ireland's Two Door Cinema Club are going to be as big as their French labelmates -- their first NYC show will be headlining Bowery Ballroom on May 12 (tickets are on sale now). They're probably the most hyped new UK act this side of Delphic.

Apart from "Something Good Can Work" (a really good single in its own right that made my Best of 2009 list) they don't really sound much like their French labelmates. Most of their debut, Tourist History, owes more to the Bloc Party/Editors/Foals school of mathy indie disco -- see "I Can Talk," also downloadable above -- but swaps out those bands' angst for spiffy pop. Kanye likes them. The album's out March 1 on Kitsune in the UK with a U.S. release in the spring TBD.

A couple Two Door Cinema club videos are below -- the "I Can Talk" clip is pretty cool -- as is their very busy 2010 tour schedule.

the album is pretty good...it starts off very strong and then fades about half way in but im sure the band will do well.

i think this band is the reason why phoenix is so good. their style is close enough to this that they could be this terrible, but somehow they're not.

Posted by Anonymous | February 18, 2010 10:27 PM

awful, just awful

Posted by Anonymous | February 18, 2010 10:28 PM

I like that photo, however.

Oh, c'mon. The photo isn't that bad.

Like so many bands today, they're very competent, but just not very memorable.

i hear there's a show at shea stadium with so so glos, static jacks, and shapes.

Guggenheim billed it as a performance piece and it was just an installation. Resultingly, the crowd simply waited for the "show" to start, limiting anyone's ability to freely explore the space (the ground floor was packed with indian-style seaters, and the balconies were lined with people holding onto their spots like grim death.

Hey ya'll we lost another one.......but I'm glad to have grown up with gangstarr as representatives of this music that has an incredible history.....hip hop is a book that wrote itself and GURU was definetly one of its main characters.....we are all getting older.....and GURU is one of the MCs that added a soundtrack to our lives in the 80's and 90's.......the NAMES,PLACES and FACES come to mind when I hear a GANGSTARR track.........I thank GOD that he allowed GURU to shine in his short time...........REST IN EVERLASTING PEACE GURU

i thought it was pretty amazing that these bands brought everyone to their feet in Carnegie Hall. Everyone was there with good vibes celebrating an amazing culture that embraces compassion and tolerance. I have no complaints other than the 2 hipsters behind me who had a comment about everything that was wrong with the venue. Why go?
