Two Door Cinema Club

It’s hard not to make Phoenix comparisions when A) the band are on the same label as them (Glassnote), B) are touring the U.S. with them in April, C) have covered them (“Lasso” which you can download above), and your first single kinda sounds like them (“Something Good Can Work,” also downloadable above). Clearly some think Ireland’s Two Door Cinema Club are going to be as big as their French labelmates — their first NYC show will be headlining Bowery Ballroom on May 12 (tickets are on sale now). They’re probably the most hyped new UK act this side of Delphic.

Apart from “Something Good Can Work” (a really good single in its own right that made my Best of 2009 list) they don’t really sound much like their French labelmates. Most of their debut, Tourist History, owes more to the Bloc Party/Editors/Foals school of mathy indie disco — see “I Can Talk,” also downloadable above — but swaps out those bands’ angst for spiffy pop. Kanye likes them. The album’s out March 1 on Kitsune in the UK with a U.S. release in the spring TBD.

A couple Two Door Cinema club videos are below — the “I Can Talk” clip is pretty cool — as is their very busy 2010 tour schedule.
