Amazing to me that the novelty hadn't worn off for everybody like... 2 years ago. But I guess now it's time for the frat guys and kids to get in on the fun, much like Kings of Leon.

2:07 that was an amazing comment. I agree completely.

I'm so happy for these guys. They know how to write catchy songs, they're good musicians and they're capitalizing on an original format. They're enjoyable. No wonder people want to see them play. I'm not nuts about them, but they don't take themselves too seriously and that's refreshing.
Maybe being a pissy bitch will get you guys sold out spots at all the big venues, too -- I don't know, keep trying.

Who cares about VW? I just read that Boner killed himself!

Glad you made it out of that 1-day coma, 2:34pm.

At The United Palace show, there were people of all ages. You don't have to be a frat guy or a kid to enjoy good melodies and a fine live performance. When someone finds success, there will always be envious losers like 2:07 and followers. Two years ago they were claiming VW was the flavor of the week and was going to disappear. Now they blame it on frat guys and kids. Seriously get a life!

No, two years ago a lot of us saw them at tiny venues for $5. But nice try. Seriously!

2:59 - wow you're so cool, that makes you so indie, right?
Can anyone on this website actually be happy for a NYC band that makes it big, without blaming it on frat boys and "kids" who "jump on the bandwagon?"
Enjoy your shows at Market Hotel, you pretentious fucks.

Nobody here said anything about being cool or indie. Just that they were over VM a long time ago. EVERYBODY IS SUPER HAPPY FOR THEM!
Relax your balls, 4:39.

4:39, Remember your dumbshit Market Hotel comment when you're seeing a band that is playing there NOW playing at Radio City in 2012.
Don't get mad at everyone else because you're 2-3 years behind the curve.

So VW starts to grow out of its Afro-flavored pop sound with "Giving Up the Gun," "Diplomat's Son," and "I Think Ur a Contra," and they're just selling out? I'd rather see them in a small venue too, but these guys are just responding to the demand, especially in NYC.

everyone should watch the 'we are the world' (haiti version) video and then realize that even if you're not into it, vampire weekend are on 'our team' and you should be happy for them.

very happy for VW's success, even though I personally don't care for their music, and i think especially Ezra Koenig's vocals are highly emetogenic.
from a selfish standpoint, the main problem with these 'indie' bands becoming popular and accepted by the arena rock-loving masses is that 1) the bands start playing in huge venues, where the experience of seeing them live becomes horrific, for many reasons, 2) the ticket prices skyrocket, and 3) even if the ticket prices don't go up much, the scalpers buy all the tickets.
this just happened with Phoenix i think, especially since they just won a grammy. i can just see these idiotic, toothless scalpers scouring the internet for this year's grammy winners or VH1 or MTV award winners. that pisses fans off when they've been loyal to an underground/indie band for years (since 2000, with Phoenix,) and then in the year 2009, everyone discovers them, and then the scalpers and minivan masses ruin for all of us (for the above-mentioned reasons).
in the end though, it's best for the band.

Guggenheim billed it as a performance piece and it was just an installation. Resultingly, the crowd simply waited for the "show" to start, limiting anyone's ability to freely explore the space (the ground floor was packed with indian-style seaters, and the balconies were lined with people holding onto their spots like grim death.
