They reportedly played 2 and 1/2 songs before being shut down by cops around 6:30pm on Tuesday. UPDATE: The cops actually just made them move near to the Driggs entrance where they played 4 or 5 more songs.

I Hate Buskers

Posted by rob hampton | March 3, 2010 2:43 AM

Pretend busking with a $1800 Breedlove guitar is ripe for negative comments.

Posted by Gadm Ghurh | March 3, 2010 2:45 AM

they continued to play after the cops tried to shut 'em down in an area on the platform where it was less crowded.

Posted by Anonymous | March 3, 2010 2:46 AM

You hate buskers? What's wrong with buskers? Would you rather listen to some song on your iPod that you've heard a dozen times that week that will never sound any different? IT'S LIVE MUSIC, for pete's sake. Recorded music was invented because people didn't always have access to live music. I think buskers add a touch of liveliness to the dull wait-for-the-train routine. And professional buskers at that. What's there to hate?

Oh WAIT, I forgot this is BV - it's not a thread until someone declares absolute disgust for the topic at hand. My bad.

Idiots stage the ultimate hipster 'underplay'. Go play the utica ave stop on the 4 in Crown Hts, THEN I might be impressed. Tho, I'm mildly surprised their folks didn't pay off the cops.

Posted by Anonymous | March 3, 2010 4:09 AM

Its really fantastic :) I can't thnik any world without them.

Posted by Facebook kaydol | March 3, 2010 4:37 AM

btwn the band and crowd, they were blocking the entire platform, no way for people to get around them. nice job idiots. way to mess up straphanger's safety.

Posted by Anonymous | March 3, 2010 7:01 AM

well of course they'd play the bloody L train at the bedford av stop. typical.

Posted by Anonymous | March 3, 2010 8:26 AM

Busking is only interesting if they're not playing covers, and some degree of substance abuse or mental illness is involved.

If both of those criteria are met, I've allowed the train I need to pass as many as five or six times, soaking it all up.

Posted by Anonymous | March 3, 2010 8:45 AM

loool utica ave stop is not in crown heights!

Posted by Anonymous | March 3, 2010 8:47 AM

"Would you rather listen to some song on your iPod that you've heard a dozen times that week that will never sound any different?"

Yes.

Posted by Anonymous | March 3, 2010 9:20 AM

This is the least cool thing a band could do.

I think its great. Hats off to them for being big nerds.

Posted by Anonymous | March 3, 2010 9:36 AM

these dudes look a bit old for this, i could imagine a bunch of 17 year olds doing this, not bro-dogs in their 30s.

Posted by Anonymous | March 3, 2010 9:40 AM

Hanly never misses a good photo op.

Posted by Anonymous | March 3, 2010 9:52 AM

that's a new one: folks 'too old' to play music in a subway. holy jesus, you think life ends after age 21? brighten up my little snarky, hipster rays of sunshine. this band would have never been heard by lovely blogs like BV if they HADN't started busking on the streets last year- so yes, it kind of was original on their part.

Posted by anon | March 3, 2010 10:00 AM

what is "real" busking?

Posted by Anonymous | March 3, 2010 10:00 AM

i am so glad i never take the L train anymore. the bedford stop is fucking insane. haven't rode the L in over 3 years now and plan not to ever again.

Posted by Anonymous | March 3, 2010 10:14 AM

Look at all those douchebags with their camera phones. Do they really plan on watching those videos? Do people on YouTube really want to watch 45 seconds of shitty quality video of a band they've never heard of, busking no less?

Posted by Anonymous | March 3, 2010 10:23 AM

Like the Beatles' rooftop performance in '69. A band at the height of their powers, after an incredible string of successes, still able to surprise. The sound was shit but then it wasn't about the sound. It was about freedom, rebellion, the breaking down of barriers. The biggest band in the world among their people again. We felt it then, and we feel it now. Truly classic stuff.

Posted by Anonymous | March 3, 2010 10:35 AM

I see their douchey publicist is there in the green jacket. Can't wait for the press release about this special event!

Posted by Anonymous | March 3, 2010 11:02 AM

I love when bands with expensive guitars dress in thrift store clothing. Nice "outfits" you've got on there.

Posted by Anonymous | March 3, 2010 11:03 AM

@Anon10:35 - BRWAA...HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! You MUST be kidding!

Posted by blackhat | March 3, 2010 11:04 AM

Will you be more jaded and more emo with your passive aggressive hipster power trip that playing the L at the Bedford stop somehow qualifies as being lame? Will you be the first one to proclaim that "Brooklyn is dead" and crown yourself with the super hipster of the year award? Hating live music isn't cool so stop spreading this cancer into BV comments and keep moving east, deeper and deeper into Brooklyn until, inevitably, you're out of Brooklyn and all of NYC is finally free of your piss and vinegar.

Posted by Anonymous | March 3, 2010 11:05 AM

Who are these people, and why should I care about this?

Posted by Anonymous | March 3, 2010 11:09 AM

would you prefer they buy overpriced clothes hand
stitched by a 7 year old in asia?

Posted by Anonymous | March 3, 2010 11:10 AM

STOP WRITING ABOUT THIS BAND. WASTE OF BANDWIDTH.

Posted by Anonymous | March 3, 2010 11:12 AM

Handjobs is my favorite band member.

I see their douchey publicist is there in the green jacket.

Posted by Duzce Rehberi | March 3, 2010 11:58 AM

Dude... did you really just compare them to the fucking Beatles?!?!?

Posted by Anonymous | March 3, 2010 12:03 PM

it would have been 10 times cooler if it wasn't announced.

it would have been a million times cooler if it wasn't a band that sucked my shit.

Posted by Anonymous | March 3, 2010 12:04 PM

why does furby keep vexing me?

Posted by Anonymous | March 3, 2010 12:06 PM

always love the mud duck and shit break comments about me on bvegan!

Posted by paulford | March 3, 2010 12:20 PM

"would you prefer they buy overpriced clothes hand
stitched by a 7 year old in asia?"

That would, at the very least, be more honest.

Posted by Anonymous | March 3, 2010 12:20 PM

Kip takes the subway?

Posted by Anonymous | March 3, 2010 2:15 PM

what a bunch of ironic faggots. keeping it real in hipsterville! why didn't they play the platform at roosevelt blvd? i thought they were from queens?

Posted by Anonymous | March 3, 2010 2:30 PM

fucking lame

Posted by Anonymous | March 3, 2010 5:09 PM

Did any of you hear what Conan was talking about on his last show?! Enough with the cynicism. Enjoy life! Smile, have fun, create! I'm trying. Why won't you?

Posted by Anonymous | March 3, 2010 5:21 PM

Who announces a show in the subway? Hilarious...they are so edgy and "of the people" Hahaha. Felice Brothers they certainly ARE NOT.

Posted by Anonymous | March 3, 2010 6:08 PM

I love this site.

Posted by Anonymous | March 3, 2010 7:24 PM

Freelance Whales; the triumph of idiocy.
What hath KEXP wrought? One million bands making car commercial music in North Brooklyn.
Indy orthodoxy - is it pot that makes one an idiot?

Freelance Whales = Flight of the Conchords + 2 - HBO / Subpop deal

Posted by Ko | March 4, 2010 3:53 PM

That's not how you play a banjo. How juvenile.

Posted by Asterblst | March 4, 2010 4:49 PM

Oh look! They have a quirky female band member playing an instrument not common to traditional band lineups! How quaint!

Posted by Ho | March 4, 2010 10:51 PM

why so much hate for this band? i thought they were fine opening for shout out louds earlier in the week. not exactly a threatening band. let them have fun.

Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2010 11:01 PM
