Bruce Dickinson shows his patriotism (more by Hardcore Shutterbug)
Iron Maiden

Iron Maiden are back on the road for a string of US dates in support of The Final Frontier, their new LP due in "late summer". The tour will stretch from June through July with Dream Theater and include PNC Bank Arts Center on 7/11 and MSG on July 12th. Fanclub presales are ongoing, and the general public get a crack at them on Saturday (3/6) at 10 AM.

About the shows the band says:

"We're still working on the set list for these summer shows, but this time it will cover the whole history of the band, and I can hint that we will be playing a taster from the new album. We already have the designs for the new Final Frontier stage show which we are building to bring out with us, so this summer tour will be a bit of a preview for the fans. It's certainly looking very spectacular at this stage and with a brand new Eddie and an amazing light show!"

"We are also trying to ensure that our fans get the tickets they want close to the stage without paying over the odds to ticket scalpers. This is something our manager Rod is working hard on so we hope to see many more familiar faces down the front having a great time. We will see you all soon"

I just have one question... with all these tour dates, are they using the plane? Full dates and some videos are below...

Two great tastes.....

BV you got the onsale dates wrong. 3/17 for FC presale (which is usually unique codes and not a password) and 3/20 for general onsale.

flight 666 was a superb movie and a must watch for any music fan, the only thing i didn't like about it was the music

Posted by giselle | March 4, 2010 6:13 PM

I'm guessing this will be a ton of new stuff on this tour. In general you'll find people leaving early on these shows and boo'ing. Just look at the shows a few years back at Nassau. This won't be anything like Somewhere Back on Tour.

i've got 2 tickets to iron maiden, baby

Posted by Jack | March 4, 2010 6:35 PM

Dream Theater is seriously one of the worst bands ever

Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2010 7:30 PM

Somewhere Back in Time show slayed

Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2010 7:50 PM

Yeasayer actually remind me a lot of Dream Theater.

Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2010 9:26 PM

Maiden is hard to decipher, sometimes they like to stick it to the fans and withhold the classic material like they did with the A Matter of Life and Death tour where they played that whole album and only 2 old songs. Then there was the Dance of Death tour which featured many songs from that album mixed in fairly well with old stuff. You never really know.

I would guess that since this tour is early summer and the album is out later in the summer, they wont play more than a few songs off it. Expect alot of old songs and expect them to continue to embarrass bands half their age with their energy.

Iron Maiden Prog 5:46 ? give your head a shake!

Posted by Anonymous | March 5, 2010 7:46 AM

Having witnessed the A Matter of Life and Death Tour, I certainly wouldn't describe it as "sticking it to the fans." I think it was the band trying something new. As they advertised everywhere, they were going to play the LP in its entirety and an encore of classics.

When I saw them the tour, they did just that. The encore included 5-6 classics and more than that, I was very happy to see a bunch of dudes in their 40s-50s STILL being very creative songwriters after many decades. That LP is fantastic.

Also, Iron Maiden is certainly influenced by the classic prog rock bands of the 70s but do not qualify as "prog."

Should be a fun tour! More blatant nationalism in music, please.

Oh fuck yes. I missed the last redone powerslave tour that they did, but I'm sure as shit not going to miss this.

Posted by Anonymous | March 5, 2010 10:32 AM

Great bill. As for the set, I think it'll be similar to the tour they did before 'Dance of Death' came out, where they played a greatest hits type show plus one new song (the horrible 'Wildest Dreams). I'm psyched for this show, Maiden at MSG is always great, but I hope that they mix the set list up a bit, throw in some obscure songs!

Posted by brian roach | March 5, 2010 12:39 PM

I'll give Maiden one thing, they sure do know how to name a tour.

Iron Maiden=AMAZING
Dream Theater=boring

Posted by Anonymous | March 5, 2010 1:23 PM

Dream Theater are great live, probably the best musicians you will ever see in your life in one band.

i love brooklyn vegan !!!

>>> but who cares about animal collective, for reals

Posted by Anonymous | March 5, 2010 3:28 PM

How can ANYONE say Dream Theater is boring? They have one of the greatest drummers, guitarists, bassists, keyboardists, and singers this world has ever seen. Sounds to me like a recipe for amazing. I would go to that concert to see Dream Theater, and while I'm there, I'd probably stick around to see Iron Maiden.

Posted by rush2112 | March 6, 2010 11:45 AM

Agree with above. Will go to see D.T., but might hang around for Maiden. Seen Maiden 4 or so times already. D.T., only about 14. May make multiple TX dates, but for D.T., depending on set length, once I can find that info.

Good luck playing after Dream Theater

Posted by wheeler | March 15, 2010 9:51 PM

Ya dream theater over rated. I will not be showing up till after dream theater might spend the time they play to get plenty hydrated. (Beer drinking) UP THE IRONS!

Posted by Anonymous | March 20, 2010 3:39 PM

I'm definitely going to the MSG one just for Dream Theater, probly gonna leave right after they play.. they should make their own tour soon. They're amazingly talented!! Go Dream Theater!!!

Posted by Anonymous | March 31, 2010 2:33 PM

What a fantastic bill. Can't wait!!!! I LOVE BOTH bands!!!!!

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2010 5:28 PM

Wow! Dream Theater is gay. Thats such a well thought out expression! Almost as insightful as yawn and Dream Theater=boring! I know plenty of people that dont particularly like all of Dream Theater music but most of them will agree that they r talented musicians and r very respected by the progressive rock/metal masses. whats alarming to me is that Iron Maiden could possibly attract ignorant simpletons such as yourself. And judging from your supremely retarded comment im guessing your a 12 year old supertwink ritelin-eating little bitch. so until u hav something intelligent to say do something useful like growing a dick!!

Posted by Anonymous | April 6, 2010 2:36 PM

Why is that metal fans are such douche-bags. I mean I love metal, Iron Maiden, and Dream Theater. Why is someone somehow less of a person just because they like a band you don't? You're that kind of people ruining music.

Also, if you think Dream Theaters boring, it's because you didn't listen any farther then a couple of minutes into a song.

Also to the guy above me, learn to spell before calling someone stupid.

Got tix to the NJ show. My favorite band growing up with my favorite band now. I can't freakin' wait!
And whomever said DT sucks - you clearly have no appreciation for quality musicianship.

Hey fuckers who think Dream theater is bad, go ahead and die. DT is the greatest band known to mankind.

Posted by Anonymous | May 5, 2010 3:42 PM

I can't believe the downing of theater,That's just plain talent,I have seen maiden two years ago, heading Ozz fest they were ok.Alot of mistakes,But the show was good.I am going to IM&DT show i have never seen DT live ,But if i were maiden i'd hate to have to follow such talent. And i am not a big fan of DT.But DT talent is so amazing it's unreal......Can't wait..

Posted by Anonymous | May 12, 2010 4:43 PM

cant wait bought 4 tickets during the presale on the floor!

Posted by Anonymous | May 16, 2010 10:25 PM

Well, this will be my first Maiden show and I am really pumped.

As for Theater? Wow, what can I say? Amazing musicianship and possibly the most boring live concert I have ever been to. Aside from Portnoy, the rest of DT looks like they aren't having fun. And you should NEVER try and rock out on a keytar!!

Posted by tweak89 | May 28, 2010 12:43 PM

No South? I am moving to Georgia come with me! going to miss the Chicago show D***

Posted by Rich | May 28, 2010 11:41 PM

Listen to the Dream Theater fans - "They have such talent! Amazing musicianship! They make no mistakes! Best drummer ever! No one can outplay Petrucci!"

Do you rate books based on its quantity of tight, complex sentences? Watch movies packed with the most difficult technical camerawork? Painting with the most challenging brushstrokes? No, that's all silly, and misses the point of art entirely. So why do you feel the same way about music? Probably because somewhere you picked up the idea of the guitar hero, took it to its logical extreme, and refused to let go. You're more akin to a Yankees fan cheering over A-Rod's grand slam count than a lover of good music.

I want you to look in the mirror and repeat some of Dream Theater's lyrics. Try shrieking faux-angrily, "Seasons change, and so can I!!" Come on, look your reflection in the eye and say to yourself, "I'm going to repeat some of the lyrics penned by music's greatest geniuses. Seasons change, and so can I!! If I seem superhuman I have been misunderstood! Trapped inside this Octavarium!"

Can you honestly say to yourself, this is good stuff? Even mediocre stuff? Yikes.

Got two tickets to See the 2nd best band in the world Dream Theater right after Rush,
Is Iron Maiden playing there too ? How care...
Go Petrucci you Rock......

Posted by Anonymous | June 9, 2010 3:32 PM

i was at the dallas show, and dream theater tore the place apart, they were spot on and did amazing, as for Iron Maiden, it was the most overrated concert i had ever been to. Their singer can't sing, and all the Maiden fans are stuck in the 80s, no band can ever move forward with an ignorant fan base such as maidens, I loved Dream Theater, but maiden seriously made me want to throw up, please down the fucking irons

Posted by Anonymous | June 11, 2010 10:30 PM

Same fag saying DT sucks in every comment. Dream Theater is the best. Ever.

Posted by Anonymous | June 12, 2010 1:16 PM

It's a well-known fact that anyone who likes DT but doesn't like Iron Maiden is pretty much wrong, considering DT has spent their entire career striving to become the prog-metal equivalent to Iron Maiden.

I mean, DT covered an entire Maiden record live once. They are fans. It's their dream (no pun intended) to be opening for a band as influential and as awesome as Iron Maiden.

Plus, every metal band and their brother rips off Maiden in some way.

Posted by silly kids | June 12, 2010 10:13 PM

Obviously Dream Theater is amazing if Iron Maiden wants them to tour alongside them. So stfu, Dream Theater rules you arrogant cunts.

Posted by martina | June 29, 2010 9:32 AM

Dream Theater are impressive yes, but I could just buy a DT album and stare at a picture if I wanted to have the equivalent of seeing them live. I'm going to see Maiden, hopefully Dream Theater surprises me on stage, I'm paying for a show not a theory lesson.

Posted by Rob | June 29, 2010 3:55 PM

Dream Theater always opens for Maiden, and I'm always sure to miss them. They are so good that you never hear their songs!

Posted by jphelps1511 | July 12, 2010 9:12 AM

I've seen DT about 6 times. They are perhaps the greatest rock musicians ever assembled into one band. Mike Pornoy could be the best drummer the world has ever seen. That being said, no professional rock band has ever provided a bigger snooze fest for my friends & I than DT. I once brought 8 people to a DT show. 5 nodded off about 40 min into the show & I felt bad so I said "Hey, maybe we should head home." I heard comments on the ride home like "Wow, those guys sure like to play lots of notes!". What a shame. They seem like nice guys with so much talent. Labrie's stage banter is little more than "How ya doing tonight?" (Even at MSG in July)! Come on James... where are we? At the library?

Posted by Mr. Cho | July 14, 2010 11:26 AM

I saw them last night in Wash DC...very boring.

Posted by SNORE | July 21, 2010 7:26 AM

I did not saw them this year but I have been to one of their concerts in the past. Great

Posted by Inchirieri Masini Timisoara | December 3, 2010 7:23 AM

Guggenheim billed it as a performance piece and it was just an installation. Resultingly, the crowd simply waited for the "show" to start, limiting anyone's ability to freely explore the space (the ground floor was packed with indian-style seaters, and the balconies were lined with people holding onto their spots like grim death.
